hey robb, will be enough to disable the raid from motherboard?
then would you like to refer me an up-to-date guide (possibly foolproof) to do it? ;)

I have the following storage in my server:
1) hdd 40 GB where I installed the Zentyal
2) a fake raid array of 2000 GB.

I didn't let the Zentyal to setup and partition the latter so now it's not recognized.
How to add it to setup there my file server?

I have had simular problems when I tried to install Zentyal 3.4 beta from a usbstick. For some reason my internal system ssd was /dev/sdb and grub defaults to /dev/sda!
At install I had to change the install position, but I forgot how, because when I install from CD all goes fine.

This seems the best approach to me but I have two questions:
1) how will I cope with redundancy, if my / directory will fail (the first non-raid hdd) what do will happen, will I be able to boot /home without / ?
2) how to perform this? I'm new on grub, what are the requested steps?

Please help,
I'm trying to install a Zentyal fresh install on a 2TB raid-1 configuration (Hardware)
Grub can't install in any of the /dev/mapper/xxxx partition, it gives error (can't remember the error literally).
Then the Zentyal continue to install but as expected won't boot.

I read of some problem when using Ubuntu on this particular configuration what should I try to do?
Thanks.

Christian again thank you for explaining;
in fact, I had a setup for weekly full backups and retain backup no older for a month.
Bitter lesson learned.  :D

here's my used space:

I just can't understand this! My backup size shouldn't have filled all the space, so why the disk was full???

Thank you Christian, you are my saviour.
I deleted all backups and now I can login.

Is there a way to put a backup limit based on disk space?

Yes Christian I supposed this, but I tried the root account as a last attempt.
I setup a password from ssh.
Do you have any idea?
Consider that I need an Active Directory domain. Do you know any reliable alternative or should I switch to Windows Server?

I must add that in the physical machine I can log only as "root", while from ssh I can also use my sudo administrators;
when I type my server's ip (https://my.ser.ver.ip) it stucks on "please wait";
here are the logs:

Installation and Upgrades / Re: My zentyal is broken.
« on: February 24, 2014, 12:59:39 pm »
I mean no user interface!
When I login in the physical zentyal machine I don't find the zentyal OS, but as I mentioned before the "desktop lightweight environment";
I can't access the web interface (it's stuck "wait until zentyal is ready").
The server is still there, the user are still there and the folder are still there, still only through ssh.
Any ideas?

Installation and Upgrades / My zentyal is broken.
« on: February 24, 2014, 12:47:18 pm »
I was running a zentyal server and disabled the automatic updates, so everything was going well (still and luckily it wasn't still in production state); then I abandoned it for some days (had something else to do) and today I tried to login again, and couldn't access the web interface.
So ssh-ed and login as root then rebooted.
Now zentyal disappeared, I login as root on the server and the "lightweight desktop environment" UI appears.
I can't do anything.
I am very worried about this because, apparently, I really didn't nothing to mess the server. But I want to take this behaviour as an opportunity to learn.
So the questions are:

1) how to restore the server (using the automatic backups) from ssh and root user?
2) which logs could I see to understand better what happened?

Thank you.

To the developers: I don't want to be rude, being just a novice and appreciating your work on Zentyal, but don't you think you should be stricter on versioning a stable release when it's almost clear that more often than expected the updates mess something on the server?
