I have two internet connections. One of them has a static IP address (behind another router), and the other is dynamic (connected directly to a cable modem). I want to limit torrent usage to the connection with the static IP. Is that possible?

Thank you,
Chris

Well, I re-installed eBox at home. I was initially able to authenticate and access my user directory. I wasn't able to later, however. I had created another share located on a second hard drive. That was all I did.

I'm not so sure that will do the trick. I installed eBox on a computer at work to replace our current router, and I'm experiencing the same problem. Everything I have configured has been configured through the web interface. There has to be something else I can look at here.

Should I reinstall eBox or the Samba module?

Is your WinXP client autologin mode for logon credential?

Please describe more about the XP as well as eBox settings. These will reduce "ding-dong".

Thank you.

No, a login window is displayed when I type '\\192.168.96.20' in an Explorer window. I provide the credentials and am shown the contents of the '\home' directory. Another login window is displayed when I try to access my home directory, and all attempts to authenticate are unsuccesful.

I guess the easiest way to show you my eBox settings would be to provide screenshots. :)

I am able to access the Multimedia folder, but am unable to create any directories or copy any files there. I think it's just a simple permissions problem, though. I created the folder as root, and have a 500GB drive mounted to that directory.

I used the custom installer.

Hi Terence,

I am not running a domain, so I have working mode set to File Server. The only client machine I've tried so far has been running Windows XP. This will be a mixed environment, however, and will have Linux and Macs accessing the shares.

Thank you,
Chris

Well, I'm not looking to put restrictions on outgoing traffic, so I guess everything is setup alright. Thanks! :)

I setup a couple of users in eBox and their home directories were created. I tried accessing their home directories from other computers, authenticating as those users, but that only results in viewing the /home directory. Attempting to access the user directories results in a logon window, and no username password combination works. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Chris

I had tried eBox last year, but ended up using another distro. I'm to a point where I require some of the features offered by eBox, so I installed it today. I want to be sure that I have my firewall configured correctly (safely) for basic internet access before I get into port forwarding.

Filtering rules from internal networks to eBox - Defaults

Filtering rules for internal networks
Code: [Select]
Decision     Source     Destination     Service     Description
ACCEPT     Any          Any                any          Internet

Filtering rules for traffic coming out from eBox
Code: [Select]
Decision     Destination     Service     Description
ACCEPT     Any                any          Internet

Thank you,
Chris

Installation and Upgrades / Re: DNS Slow to Resolve

That's cool! :)

I already switched back to BrazilFW at work, unfortunately, but will give it another go at a later date. Actually, I'll give it another go at work once eBox has been switched over to Ubuntu. I am continuing to use eBox at home, since it offers file sharing and what-not, so I'll apply your update just as soon as I get a chance.

Thanks!
Chris

Yeah, it's driving my co-workers and myself nuts. I think I'm going to have to install something else this morning when I go in. I like eBox and all, but I think I'll have to come back to it in the future.

Installation and Upgrades / DNS Slow to Resolve

It seems that URLs take much longer to resolve since I installed eBox. This has been consistent between home and work. Has anybody else run across this?

Thank you,
Chris

Installation and Upgrades / External Hard Drive for File Sharing
« on: January 20, 2008, 10:58:06 pm »
Would it be possible for me to use an external USB drive for file shares? I have a good enough knowledge of Samba to go in and edit configuration files or create symbolic links if need-be, but could that potentially "break" eBox?

Thank you,
Chris

Ahhh....that did it! Thank you so much!!! Oh, I also had to get rid of the colon. Everything is working great now!

Thanks again!
Chris
