Installation and Upgrades / suggested text changes
« on: December 24, 2007, 04:53:03 pm »
It is truly impressive how good the english translation is! You guys have done a great job!

Here is what I have found and suggested changes:

Firewall:
   Redirects
      The following controls are disabled because they would not affect your system if you hadn't any network interface marked as external

      Suggested text: The following controls are disabled because you have not configured any external network interface.

DHCP:      Suggested text: An interface must be set as static to configure the DHCP service on it. To do so, change interfaces configuration in network module.

Traffic Shaping:
   Rules list per interface
       Traffic Shaping is applied when eBox is acting as a gateway. To achieve so, you need at least an internal and an external interface. Check your interface configuration to match so at Network->

      Suggested text: Traffic Shaping is applied when eBox is acting as a gateway. To achieve this, you need at least an internal and an external interface. Check your interface configuration to match, at Network>Interfaces

Mail:
   Queue Management
      There is not any message at the queue or the service is stopped

      Suggested text: There is no messages in queue or the service is stopped.

Events:
      Events module may help you to make eBox inform you about events that happen at eBox in some different ways

      Suggested text: Events module configures eBox to help inform you about events that happen.

I tried the command that sixstone posted above, but my changes don't take place. Any suggestions?

BTW, for not having native english speakers you guys are doing just fine. I am teaching myself spanish, so maybe you guys can help me with that. :)

sixstone: thanks for the reply. I figured it out last night after I posted. One of the ways I want to contribute, besides helping people here on the forum, is by testing and correcting the grammar and english. As I work my way thru system I will feed back the changes.

Not sure how you would like me to submit changes. Let me know best way.

thanks for the reply. I have not heard of systemimager, it looks interesting. I will check it out and let you know what happens.

I have used dd in the past to create clones of image for slackware based installs. It works very well but it takes fussing with a little to get it right. I posted to see what you guys recommended.

thanks again

Installation and Upgrades / creating grammar and english

This is humbling. I am trying to correct grammar and english in the text windows. However, there is one pas.sage of text that is driving me crazy. When you click on DHCP tab a window of text displays saying the following.

At least, an interface must set as staticto configure the DHCP service on it. To do so, change interfaces configuration in network module

As you can see 'staticto' sh should be 'static to'. Also, drop At least and start sentence with An interface.

greping finds this test in /usr/share/perl5/EBox/DHCP/Composite/General.pm. Here is the statement:

"{
    return __x('An interface must be set as static '
               . 'to configure the DHCP service on it. '
               . 'To do so, change {openhref}interfaces '
               . 'configuration{closehref} in network module',
              openhref  => '<a href="/ebox/Network/Ifaces">',
              closehref => '</a>');
}
"

As you can see, I've made the changes but no matter how many times I refresh the screen it does not change. What am I doing wrong??

thanks

Installation and Upgrades / backup and multiple installs

This weekend I am creating a standard config for ebox. I work for a non-profit healthcare provider to native amercians. I have 90 clinics that I will install ebox at.

My question is this: Does backup utility on ebox provide ghosting? Or do you have a suggestion of how to go about this based on your experience with ebox?

thanks

Installation and Upgrades / Re: How to install webmail on ebox ?
« on: December 20, 2007, 02:12:25 pm »
sixstone: Sometimes I come across a little harsh, don't mean to. I like ebox but the frontend to postfix and courier is too simplified. I would like to have something like webmin's postfix form. It gives you all the capibility of editing main.cf from command line but in form  factor.

Now I have just started playing with ebox so maybe there is more in the control panel. If under mail heading that is all there is for options, then to truly configure an enterprise mail server, you would have to do it at the command line. I don't mind that but it defeats having all the admin controls in a conrtol panel. My co-workers who are Windows only could not configure the email server from the command line.

I am hoping tomorrow I have time to bring up a lan with ebox as the frontend to network. So, I will give feedback as I configure it. In fact I will be using all the components of ebox.

cheers

thanks for the comments. I read the link and its pretty good. Falko does a pretty good job. Its very hard to say what is optimal. I have an email server running on slackware with 1200 users. Its all webmail and great! I don't have to touch the clients.

I built it from scratch using postfix, dovecot, and openldap. I'm happy with it. Like you I have been looking for something that is integrated and simple to setup. Haven't quite found it yet. Ebox is pretty nice but I certainly would like to see better features in some of the modules.

I think for a first time server, the link you posted would be a good effort. You could build that on ebox or ubuntu. Ebox has all the components and with the guide you should be able to configure your mail server from the command line. Not a big fan of ubuntu, but a lot of people like it. If I can help, I will. I'm not on the forum all the time but try to check in several times a day.

znguissi: Believe me when I say, I understand your pain. Everything I've ever configured in Linux has come at a great price of time.

I don't use ebox for mail. Its actually one of the few things I don't like about it. I think the interface to mail is hindering. For me, I don't know how anyone could configure an enterprise mail server from that interface. If I was going to setup mail from ebox, I would do it as I said before. I would go to /etc/postfix and edit main.cf for my needs. Sorry, I really understand.

Its really not as bad as it sounds. I know the first time you look at the config file its bewildering. However, if you decide to take it on, I can provide steps for getting a straightforward no frills email server up and running. I would be willing to do that because others have done it for me many years ago. If not, perhaps one of the other members has done it and will take the time to help you use the gui.

Good luck

znguissi: They are using postfix for MTA. Go to /etc/postfix. Edit main.cf. Reload postfix 'postfix reload'. Start postfix: /etc/init.d/postfix start.

they are using courier-imap. That sucks but what the hey (wish they would use dovecot). Go to /etc/courier and edit config file. Start courier.

In the control panel of ebox go to mail and fill out the 3 items that they have there.

Then you are good to go. Then users will be able to access mail from any browser.

Hi luna,

It would be helpful to give a little more info. Basically, you need a simple smtp config on ebox that has your exchange mail server's host name for the relay. I don't use exchange but I'm sure it has something like a smarthost feature. Meaning it will see your ebox smtp and accept mail for relay. You do not specify if users on ebox are different from exchange users. If so, this opens up a whole course of actions. If they are the same users, I don't know why you would want to use ebox for mail.

Give as much info describing the situation and I sure someone will try to help.

This forum is great! So, glad you decided to do this.

I have several applications which I have on a server. I have ebox installed on another. I would like to have ebox provide ldap support for ebox.

Has anyone done this? Are the ldap schemas compatible?

I want to change colors to match our non-profit organization's colors. Is images located in /usr/share/ebox/templates/images ?
