Installation and Upgrades / DNS problems
« on: February 23, 2012, 03:15:13 pm »
I have set up a domain in DNS (mydom.local) and added the server at its IP address (zentsrv, 192.168.1.2), and created a dynamic domain (wks.mydom.local) that the workstations join (set up in DHCP).

This is the same as http://doc.zentyal.org/en/dns.html in the image under 'Configuration of an authoritative DNS server with Zentyal'.

The workstation can ping 192.168.1.2 OK, but not zentsrv.mydom.local
Is there a problem with the configuration?
Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / [Solved] Domain confusion...
« on: February 08, 2012, 11:02:50 am »
I'm sure I'm being stupid here - but I do not see why there is a domain name entry in File Sharing - General Settings (ZENTYAL-DOMAIN - which I did not choose during installation), and a different domain name that I have set up in the DNS module (dynamic domain mydom.local) - should these not be one and the same thing? I am not sure what the role of the one in File Sharing is other than that it must be chosen when joining a Win machine to the domain.
Thanks

Using ZY 2-2.1, Ubuntu 11.10 client:
In webmail the mail sends but is not received (just within the lan between users set up on the ZY server) unless I disable the mail filter on the server. Have I missed something?
Thanks

I have set up ZY 2-2.1, named the server zentsrv, in DNS added domain mydom.local
In DHCP enabled DDNS etc

From a Windows 7 machine using Windows Explorer I can browse to the server as \\zentsrv and see & access shares. I can also use eg http://zentsrv in IE.

From an Ubuntu 11.10 machine I can do everything as above but must always connect using the server's IP address eg http://192.168.1.2, but would prefer to use http://zentsrv

I must have missed something - is it anything obvious?
Thanks

In 2.0 I could do this, but not in 2.2:

Configuring DHCP, Dynamic DNS Options, Enable - but now the Dynamic Domain combo is disabled so I can't type/select a domain name.

There is a similar problem with the Common Options: the Search domain combo is greyed out.

I can't save the options as ZY correctly says that I haven't made these choices!
Have I missed something? (probably!)
Thanks for any hints...

Solved: this is bug 56990 in Ubuntu 10.04 (and probably others). The partitioner fails with 500GB (not other size) disks. The workaround is to partition manually so that the total is 500GB (not the suggested 500.1GB). For example on both disks: 2GB and 498GB partitions for RAID, then in the RAID1 setup make 2GB swap and 498GB /-root RAID sets.
This bug is still in Zentyal 2.0-3 (downloaded 5 Jan 2011) though the fix is available.

===========================
OLD POST BELOW:

I have successfully installed (and reinstalled) Zentyal 2.0 RAID1 with 2 x 40GB disks.
I have repeated this with 2 X 500GB disks and on ejecting the disks to reboot the Zentyal UI does not appear but I see:

mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/e680fd2b etc on /root failed: invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: no such file or directory
etc
No init fount. Try passing init=bootarg
Busybox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu etc...
(initramfs)

Any help as to how to proceed would be appreciated. My guess is that is is some problem with the RAID array. Maybe Ubuntu can't accomodate disks of this size? The only other change I made was to put in a 2nd network adapter - but surely this could not cause the above problem.
Many thanks

Installation and Upgrades / Resetting UI password
« on: June 10, 2010, 05:17:56 pm »
If the web UI password has been forgotten, how is it possible to reset it?
I have tried dropping into recovery mode, root shell prompt, then using:
passwd myuser

All this did was allow me to log in as the user at a command prompt, but did not reset the password that the UI asks for at start up.

Many thanks.

Installation and Upgrades / Mail setup problem
« on: March 24, 2010, 04:33:02 pm »
Hi
I am new to eBox and have had trouble setting up mail.
I followed http://trac.ebox-platform.com/wiki/Document/HowTo/SetupMailScenario although the Create Mail Account section has changed.

User: myuser
Virtual domain: local.mail

I joined an XP machine to the eBox domain, logged on as a domain user & tried to set up Outlook Express to send / receive email:
Email: myuser@local.mail

Any attempt to send to this same account (myuser@local.mail) fails with ...one of the recipients rejected...Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname.

Any help would be appreciated.

Installation and Upgrades / MySQL with eBox
« on: June 22, 2009, 10:54:43 am »
I know from other posts that an eBox server is not intended as a webserver. However I would like to use it as such within the LAN so that it can host web-based database applications. It is not practical to buy another server (not to mention the extra power consumed!). I have installed mysql-server and mysql-client successfully from the CDRom but get an error message when trying to install php5-mysql:

php5-mysql: Depends: php5-common(= 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.4) but 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.6 is to be installed.
E: Broken packages.

This make me think that somehow eBox installed an older php5-common than is on the disk. Should I uninstall then re-install php5-common?

Many thanks for any help.

As a total newbie to eBox:
I did a fresh install of the Ubuntu + eBox disk.
After the install a message asked for the CD again & installed a lot more stuff.
Reboot gets me to a command prompt.
However during reboot it reported the DHCP server not starting so I edited /etc/dchp3/dhcp3.conf to make the server authoritative and add a subnet:
subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
  range 192.168.1.20 192.168.1.50
}
On reboot dhcp3 now starts OK.

Now booting an XP machine - it gets an IP address correctly. It can ping the server correctly.

However it cannot browse to https://192.168.1.1/eBox - what could be wrong?
I checked that apache is running on the server with ps -A and it is.
Many thanks for any help.
