Installation and Upgrades / Re: Multi level share access rights
« on: May 24, 2013, 02:32:37 pm »
Thank you.  Yes I have tried with ACL on multi level shares but I need to create a share for each folder in order to achieve that.  I hope Zentyal had some sort of ACL on folders inside a share.

I will try with a command and test something and maybe write a feature request with my findings.

Yes, I will be looking into getting a paid subscription.

Thanks for your input...

Installation and Upgrades / Multi level share access rights
« on: May 24, 2013, 09:37:11 am »
Hi there,

I have a scenario where a Architectural company wants to set up shares on the Zentyal 3 server with multi access rights on folders inside a share.

For example, they want a share called DOCUMENTATION.  Inside this folder there are folders like Electrical, Mechanical etc.  Each of the folders inside the main DOCUMENTATION share must have their own access rights like follow:

Electrical must have read access to all groups but group electrical must have write access too along with the administrator of the domains
Mechanical must also have read only access to all groups but only Mechanical group must have write access along with domain admin.

How do I go about setting this up?  Should I create the DOCUMENTATION share with Guest access and then configure the access rights with command line or can I set this up within Zentyal.

I appreciate your help.  I need to give them a solution by Monday morning so please, any help will be appreciated.

News and Announcements / Re: Zentyal 3.0 Roadmap published

I was thinking alot about Zentyal lately and the improvements it needs.  I am really excited about 3.0.

I would really like the option under the FileSystem Backup to backup to more than 1 external disk where a user can just swap hard drives and keep a copy off-site.  The bandwidth in South Africa is really expensive, our customers with 2TB of data (Architects) cannot backup off-site simply because of the costs involved every month.

The users are finding it difficult to swap drives and set the Backup directories etc as it needs some user interaction from them in order to change the drives and for the backup to work properly.

If you would consider this option, I can send through more specific information as to what is needed here.

Thanks, Johan

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Problems setting up wifi ap

I find it very frustrating that no one really answers the posts.  I am having a similar problem, but I need information on how to set up E-Box as a wireless internet provider with Radius so that users can connect to a wireless network and be routed through one of my gateways and work on the internet on uncapped connections.

Please help me if you can do this...

I have another post, but no answers for a couple of days now.

Are there actually no-one who would like to use E-Box as a wireless internet provider?  Please, anyone, help me.

I have been using EBOX for a couple of years now and finally in version 1.4 I see it introduced the RADIUS module which is great if it can work as I imagine...

What I have been wanting to do for the last couple of years is to set up EBOX at a centralised building with 3 network interfaces set up as follows:

  1.  External LAN Interface connected to the ADSL router (
  2.  Wireless LAN with a strong omni antenna mounted on a roof top (
  3.  Internal LAN interface for users connecting straight to the EBOX server (

Now, does anyone know how I can set up EBOX to provide people outside the building with an internet connection?

I want to set up a small Wireless ISP (not just a hotspot) where I limit users' connection speed by the group they belong to and they need to connect from their houses to my network and ONLY get internet access.  Their connections will be uncapped so that will not be a problem.  I will start with a 4Mb line and sell 384K, 512K and 1Mb connections for a start and then either get more line installed to balance traffic or re-route some to a new line.

I would also like to cover a very large area so I want to have a couple of EBOX servers connecting to one another in order to provide WAN failovers (if one of the ADSL lines becomes unavailable, etc) and obviously to expand my coverage as wireless ISP.

Anyone who tries to connect to my internet must be asked to log on with a username and password or anything else that can provide enough security where I do not get any hackers into my system.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.  If this is already possible within EBOX, please help me and explain how I can accomplish this.

Installation and Upgrades / Squid Sarge setup

Is it possible to have a summary under the Squid logs that can show stats per user, per group and totals in MB?  It is really hard to go through all the entries in this log file to actually gert some kins of a summary going on of who used what amount of bandwidth.

Basically I have 2 groups set up in eBox and I need to see the totals of each group when I open the logs.  Then I can break it down by clicking on the group and see totals for each user in the group.   I also need to see the top sites visited, top downloader, top bandwidth user, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if this has already been looked at and implemented, how can I get it active?

Kind Regards,
