Installation and Upgrades / samba-common - update
« on: June 19, 2017, 09:06:40 am »
Hi,

is it really a good idea to update samba-common, when all the other components depend on a specific version of it?

To reenable my fileserver (zentyal 4.1) I downloaded the last version from /old/pool/main/s/samba which allowed me to reinstall samba and several other packages that had been removed due to not met dependencies.

I had the same issue. Purging the module and installing again solved the issue for me.

How did you do that, simply
Code: [Select]
# apt-get purge zentyal-samba
# apt-get install zentyal-samba ?

I guess I'd have to recreate all users, groups and shares after that?

tia,
Jens-Peter

Too bad, but thank you anyways  :o

Any ideas?

See my question above.  My question was actually a gentle "fix the documentation" type question.  They left out the > in the command.

Code: [Select]
sudo perl dump-users-from-backup confbackupname.tar >users.csv

Thank you, that resulted at least in a users.csv, though the errormessages stay the same.

The "only" remaining problem is, that import-basic-modules seems not to do what I expected it to...
Or is it not its job to configure file sharing, shares and printers with their access rights?

I run into problems while trying to follow the instructions.

When doing the import-basic-modules I get:

Hi haliparotin,
you can't have any module dependent on usersandgroups on the server
(compare http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Document/HowTo/EBoxMasterSlaveSetup )

Hi,

I just wanted to try that.
However before doing so I discovered, that the group does exist  within ldap on the client?!

So how do I get the client to authenticate using ldap?

chown ebox:__USERS__ /home/samba/shares/Software failed.
Error output: chown: invalid group: `ebox:__USERS__'
When trying to manually chown anything to the group "__USERS__" it fails as well.
Shouldn't the groups be synced by ldap as well?
Is there a way for me to debug this?

Installation and Upgrades / Users and Groups Master / Slave

is this
Quote
We must only install the usersandgroups module in the master Zentyal. If you install any module that depends on usersandgroups in the master, such as asterisk, mail or samba, the master/slave setup won't work. In order to install that module we'll run:
(from Document/HowTo/EBoxMasterSlaveSetup)
still valid?
I would really appreciate, if it were possible to include other services on the master...
Thats actually, because I run into problems with synchronization all the time  :( (see next post)

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zentyal on Proxmox 1.6 not working
« on: October 05, 2010, 11:54:21 am »
I ran into the same problem and "solved" the cpu-load issue by logging in via ssh and setting "auto_login no" in /etc/slim.conf.
Just now I changed (in proxmox) the "Video Graphics Adapter" to "Standard VGA", which seems to solve the issue.

Installation and Upgrades / Samba shares, ACL
« on: August 19, 2010, 02:12:32 pm »
Hi,

I need to give the permissions "Read and write" and "Adminstrator" to a group.
This was no problem up to and including version 1.4.
Now I get an error "User/Group group/xxxx already exists"

Background:
This share is read only for most users (group AllUsers). The "select few" who may write need Administrator rights, since "read and write" only allows to change ones own files.
Adminstrator rights however doesn't allow you to write, when you are also in a group that only has read permission :-/
Therefore I need "Read and Write" as well!
(Or an added entry of all "admin users" into "write list" in the smb.conf, which in my opinion should be there anyways...)

How can I accomplish this?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: 1.5 Master/Slave "stringify"???
« on: July 28, 2010, 09:35:49 am »
I'm suffering from this as well (see http://trac.ebox-platform.com/ticket/2012 ).

As I see it, the error message does not concern the real problem. I think, "stringify" would print a human readable error message describing what went wrong.
Sadly that's the end of my perl knowledge :(

I had 1.5 already running (3 to 4 weeks ago). That suddenly stopped synchronizing (maybe after an update). Since earlier (with 1.3 or 1.4) deleting the client on the server and reinstalling usersandgroups on the client did the trick, I tried that.
From that moment the aforementioned error message emerges, when trying to connect the client to the server.
Strangely the server lists the client on its "Slave Status" page...

Regards,
Jens-Peter

are you using Internet Explorer?

I have to use whatever browser there is on the client computer.
Surprisingly on windows systems that often happens to be an IE...

I agree that it is not too high on the priority list, but it should be possible to do basic maintenance from all the major browsers.

News and Announcements / Re: eBox Platform 1.2 is ready to download
« on: July 31, 2009, 09:51:03 am »
I've been upgrading since 1.0 testing and up to 1.2 testing even. It works great. What do you use eBox for? I use other things on my server not just eBox, and I tend to run into some pretty bad problems. If you listed what you used eBox for, we might be able to tell you what you need to do for an upgrade.
we use in fact several eBoxes, usually just the samba component. I am not aware of one where the egroupware is actually used. Therefore an upgrade should not pose too many problems.
These servers are used within the administrative LAN of schools.

Hi,

great work guys!

I hesitate to upgrade yet, since you say:
Quote
Upgrading from 1.0 to 1.2 might fail. We recommend not to upgrade from 1.0 to 1.2 in production. If you upgrade, be prepared to reconfigure manually some modules. Future releases of 1.2.x should provide a smooth upgrade.

Do you mean to say that in the future an upgrade 1.0 -> 1.2.x is possible, or do you mean further upgrades from 1.2 -> 1.2.x will be possible?

Thanks,
Jens-Peter
