Sorry for kicking this old thread, but what is the location of the certificate files? I too would like to delete a few I have created for testing purposes.

Excellent work, Trym!

Bookmarking this thread for future reference, but I hope I'll never need it.  ;D

Excellent... will upgrade my Zentyal configuration this weekend.

Thanks guys!

Bumping this thread.

Has this feature (only incremental backups, full backup only on the first run) been implemented yet? I'd like to make sure before I commit to any server downtime for the upgrade.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I think backing up 1.5TB over our internet connection each month is not an option. :D

I guess I just have to be patient untill the next release and find another way of backing up my data in the meantime.

Cheers!

I would like run to my backups to a remote NAS over an internet connection. Total backup is around 1.4TB, so I want to disable full backups and only do incremental backups.

The Zentyal documentation reads:
Quote
Full Backup Frequency
This parameter is used to determine the frequency for the complete backups to be performed. The values are: Only the first time, Daily, Weekly, Twice a month and Monthly.

However, when I look at my backup settings, there is no option to run a full backup "only the first time". Is this because I have already run several backups? How do I enable this option?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: New user creates local folder.
« on: November 16, 2010, 09:34:49 pm »
We've got a little problem and is that when we add a new user, it creates correctly the samba folder but it also creates the local user folder under /home and when we delete user, it's home folder is not deleted (samba folder is deleted as expected).

Is there any option to delete /home user folder, or even better, is there any option to create user without the local /home folder?

I'm experiencing the same problem. Is it normal Zentyal does not delete home folders when deleting a user account?

Isn't it about time to update the title of this thread?  ::)

After much Googling and reading other forums, I'm pretty sure that my problem is caused by the fact that I have mounted an NFS share from my NAS to my Zentyal box, which is in turn shared through Samba by Zentyal:

NAS ---[NFS share]--- Zentyal (/mnt/share1) ---[Samba share]--- Windows client

I proved this by creating a share from an unmounted directory straight from the Zentyal box's file system. Office files in this share open/save/close without any problems.

It seems MS Office is trying to do something that does not cooperate well with the combination of a Samba-through-NFS mounted share. I think the only way to resolve my problem is to somehow disable file locking (according to info on other forums). But the absence of file locking is bound to cause serious trouble when two users/processes access and change the same file simultaneously. In an office network, this workaround is simply not an option, as nobody wants to risk loss of data.

For now, I'm going to resort to iSCSI instead of NFS to mount my NAS. I'm hoping this turns out to be the solution to my problem. I haven't tested it yet, but it sounds like I should've used iSCSI in the first place to mount my NAS storage space!

Still, if anyone has a solution for the NFS-Samba-file locking problem, please post it here. You will be helping tons of users on as many forums out there that have run into this problem.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: how to share a NAS directory ?

Zentyal probably won't integrate this as an option, because in this case for example, you simply can't configure your NAS from the Zentyal UI. I bet you will get a ton of questions appearing on this forum that the it doesn't work, only to find out that filesharing on the third party machine was not set up properly.

Second and more importantly, mounting an NFS share as I described in this thread is bound to cause problems with file locking and/or performance. I suspect resharing a Samba or Windows share is going to cause problems too.

At the very least, I would say that this needs a whole lot more research and testing before deciding to implement this as a native Zentyal feature.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: how to share a NAS directory ?

This is done by mounting the NAS shares on your Ubuntu/Zentyal machine

1. Enable NFS on the NAS share
2. On your Ubuntu machine, create a directory where you want the share to be:
Code: [Select]
sudo mkdir /mnt/share13. Add a line to /etc/fstab to permanently mount the NAS share to the newly created dir, for example:
Code: [Select]
192.168.0.10:/nasshare /home/share1 default 0 04. Enable the new mount in fstab
Code: [Select]
sudo mount -a5. Now create a share in Zentyal, and point it to /mnt/share1
6. Set share permissions, save changes and you're done!

I have disabled antivirus both on the server and on my workstation. No firewalls either.

Any other file (pdf, jpg, mp3) opens very quickly. It's only when I open an Excel or Word document with an MS Office application, there is a delay. Also, when right-clicking a .doc or .xls file and clicking properties, there is also a delay.

Any ideas?

I have a Ubuntu box with Zentyal running as PDC for a number of Windows clients. Opening and transferring files from the server's shares is very fast, except for Excel and Word files. It takes about 20-30 seconds to open them with Word/Excel/Powerpoint. Copying one of these files from one share to another, or to a local client is very fast.

When I do a Google search, I find several people experiencing this problem. Are there any people here that are experiencing this? Any solutions?

EDIT: Weird... opening a .doc file in Wordpad works fine. Could this problem have something to do with file locking?

EDIT2: When I tick the 'Guest access' box for a share in Zentyal, I can open Office files very quickly, but they open as read-only, so I cannot save them.

Thanks for your fast response, acon.

I have not yet migrated any workstations to the new domain, so I guess changing the domain name is the safest option. I guess using the same domain name for internal and external purposes is just not such a good idea in my case.

I'm currently testing a Zentyal box configured as PDC, DNS and DHCP. Everything seems to be working fine, except that clients unable to reach our website on www.companyname.com. The reason must be that I chose the Zentyal domain equal to our registered domain name (companyname.com).

Obviously this is something I need to fix. Now I can edit the /etc/hosts file on the Zentyal server, but this doesn't sound like a proper solution.

Should I rename the internal domain name to 'companyname' (remove the .com part)? Or is there something in the DNS configuration of the Zentyal box I should change?
