Okay, I can connect to samba shares. I even see the domain info under \\server\sysvol\zentyal-domain.lan\ . Still can't connect to the foo domain. Realm names did not work (did not even recognize as a domain). Again I get to the login info for the domain (authentication), and after that it fails.

Okay I changed the server hosts back to what they were. I will try the realm names as well. I will also try the samba shares when I have a chance.

I understand what you are saying. Zentyal added (or some other program) those lines there before I tried adjusting them. I will remove them then. You want me to keep these then? or do they need editing?

XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX   server.foo   server
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX   zentyal-domain.lan   zentyal-domain

I can't tell if they are authenitcating correctly. I am using Central Time Zone, not sure if that is major enough. Date and time should be relatively similar, not exact, but within seconds. I will look at you other posts, but this is still not working.

It probably is a DNS issue, I am still having trouble with it.
What do you mean "if you can attach to the domain". I have set my server as the primary DNS server, and Google ( 8.8.8.8 ) as the second (for internet connectivity).
I have my DNS on Zentyal set up with 4 domains: foo, server, server.foo, and zentyal-doman.lan . All of those are pointing to the address of the server, as well having a hostname of server, pointing to the same address. I don't know how exactly to configure this on Zentyal, so I am just trying things. The File Sharing Realm is ZENTYAL-DOMAIN.LAN, and the NetBIOS Domain Name is FOO. Roaming profiles enabled. Transparent DNS Cache is also enabled. Again this is Zentyal 3.0. When I ask to join domain FOO, it successfully asks for a username and password (so it's seeing it), but I get the error message after that. Another thing, I included hosts in my /etc/hosts file on the server:

127.0.0.1   localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.1.1   server.foo   server
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX   server.foo   server
127.0.1.1   zentyal-domain.lan   zentyal-domain
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX   zentyal-domain.lan   zentyal-domain

Am I doing anything wrong? What else do I need? Any improvement tips?

I understand that your link has worked in the past, but I am having the same problems as you had right now. If you could post the useful code you found at that page here, I would be very appreciated.

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "Foo":
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

Server "Foo" is Ubuntu 12.04.4 and is running Zentyal 3.0. I cannot upgrade to future versions of Zentyal. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
