I can only see users in the machine not in the domain.
What now?

To see the login window like the screen shot  I need to change in yast --> editor /etc/sysconfig DISPLAYMANAGER_AD_INTEGRATION to yes, reboot, and there you go!

But in domain I can't see my domain, only local.

Right, that means that your client isn't using the LDAP directory to retrieve the users in the domain. Make sure you go through https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LDAPClientAuthentication again until "getent passwd" and "getent group" show local as well as domain users.

I have lots of users!!!
But it seems that the login window only lets the users login in the computer and not in the domain.

Do I need to write instead of just using the username, use domain/username???

or

change the displaymanager??? gdm or kdm

OK, didn't see that screenshot before and thought you were using Windows clients on the domain... ;)

Anyway, please log onto the text console using the root account and tell me if the output of "getent passwd" contains any of your users on eBox.

You should be able to join the domain using any account that has been marked "Admin" in eBox.

OK! I did that and I got a message saying "welcome to the domain"!

Now I want to know how do I change the login so that I can login with the domain accounts.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, I think all you need to do is create more regular users in eBox who should be able to log onto any PC in the domain.

When I try to join the domain I get an error (I'm working with suse 10.3):

could not connect to server EBOX-SMB3
the username or password was not correct
connection failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

I got the password from /etc/ldap/slapd.conf

What can be wrong?

I don't think you can just use the md5-hashed password value from slapd.conf. You should be able to join the domain using any account that has been marked "Admin" in eBox.

Wow, what's this all about?!

Installation and Upgrades / Problem with DNS module
« on: April 17, 2008, 10:32:50 am »
I currently have a device on my network which is called "BRN_67471C". My old Bind9/Dhcp3 combo  running on Debian Sarge has no trouble when I add this hostname with a fixed IP address.  :P

If I try to add it in eBox's DNS module, however, I get an exception thrown complaining about the underscore in the name.  >:(

Can this be circumvented somehow?  ??? The name is hardcoded in the device's DHCP client  :'(, so it would really help if eBox could be convinced to allow that name.  ;D

Well I'm able to connect to LDAP however I see this error in dovecot:

dovecot: 04-16-2008 21:05:45 Error: auth(default): ldap(tclerkin,10.10.10.251): ldap_search((&(objectClass=sambaSamAccount)(uid=tclerkin))) failed: No such object

I've tried changing from objectClass=sambaSamAccount to objectClass=posixAccount and it still won't work

Are you sure there's an eBox user called "tclerkin" in your LDAP tree?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Samba + ClamAV?

I think in the writing process will be the right point to add this feature but keep in mind that this feature could be time consuming :).

I know, but I'm sure my server could handle it.

In the meantime, maybe it would be possible to add some sort of scheduled ClamAV-scan of all files beneath /home?

I'm trying to find out whether eBox scans files for viruses while writing to or reading from shares.

If not, how could this functionality be added?

That sounds like the OpenLDAP daemon slapd isn't starting properly. Try restarting it and watching the log output it generates in /var/log/syslog. Post the output here so we can see what's going wrong.

So which distro  version are you using exactly?

Ubuntu 8.04 Server  ;)

Installation and Upgrades / Adding a new printer not in list
« on: April 13, 2008, 07:43:47 pm »
I'm trying to add a new network printer to eBox, but there's no suitable driver in the list of known printers.  :'(

The printer is a Brother MFC-5840CN, which is well supported under Linux with drivers from Brother. I was pleasently surprised to find that Ubuntu 8.04 even comes with the lpr- und cupswrapper-drivers, so it should be a snap getting those to work in eBox, shouldn't it?  ;D

The problem is that I have no clue how the list of printers in eBox is compiled or how to add new drivers to that list.  ???

Any ideas?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: OpenVPN + Samba + only 1 NIC
« on: April 10, 2008, 03:49:00 am »
You won't have any problem with the samba PDC stuff, but with the openVPN you will need at least two network interfaces.

I can tell you how to workaround but you will have to modify a couple of files

I'd be interested to hear how to do it, since I'm not scared of modifying files. ;)

But I really think that this behaviour is a bit of a design flaw, since I know of a number of people who have their VPN endpoint inside their private LANs on hardware with only one NIC. Forcing this internal/external gateway-mode stuff on them will certainly not make their lifes any easier.

Installation and Upgrades / OpenVPN + Samba + only 1 NIC
« on: April 09, 2008, 03:13:34 pm »
I'm looking at replacing a friend's old server running Debian 3.1 with a new one running Ubuntu 8.04 server and Ebox.

He has a Samba PDC as well as OpenVPN installed on that server, using port forwarding on his router to connect using port 1194.

Now, the trouble is that somehow Ebox insists on having OpenVPN use an "external" NIC, while Samba on Ebox only listens to an "internal" NIC. The way it is now, I can use only Samba OR OpenVPN, but not both at the same time, since he only has one NIC.

With his setup, he'd only need one NIC that can do both services using an internal IP-address.

Is there any proper way to work around this constraint?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Add-On: BackupPC request.

I've just taken a look at it and it looks very nice.

Let's see if I can have some time to play with it and I'll get back to you with some feedback about its use with eBox.

Thanks!

No problem.

I forgot to mention that the configuration files for BackupPC are really easy to generate and starting with version 3.x, it also comes with it's own powerful webfrontend, which I'm sure can be integrated into ebox with little effort.
