Installation and Upgrades / Re: Would it work in a web proxy mode only?
« on: January 17, 2008, 11:04:12 am »
Yes, eBox can be run only in web proxy mode. Just active only the web proxy service (you don't need to install the other packages).

However, bear in mind that if you want to use transparent proxy eBox must be configured as gateway.
In your case maybe the better way to configure is to use it as non-transparent proxy and in your firewall machine allow web access only to eBox to be sure that your users pass through it.

Cheers,
  Javier

Installation and Upgrades / Re: user pwd
« on: January 17, 2008, 10:49:45 am »
Hello,
each user belonging to a group can read all files under a group's share. So I suggest you to create a group for each stundents+teachers by class and other for just class's teacher.  Wit this setup the teachers may put document in either share (and of course they can put provate documents on his own user's share)

Regarding the password question, currently it is not possible because we have a problem with user's password coordination between the different services and changing the password like that would probably end with two different passwords for the same user.

Cheers,
  Javier

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zones?
« on: January 17, 2008, 10:32:11 am »
Hello,
currently we don't have any zone feature and, as you rightly point, overlapping objects can't be created.
In the near future we will rework the objects feature to give it more flexibility.

Cheers,

Installation and Upgrades / Re: How to create multiple users accounts?
« on: January 17, 2008, 10:29:57 am »
The way to do that is to create a small script to read a file which your users data and then call the eBox's method to add users.

In the FAQ you can find a more detailed explanation: http://trac.ebox-platform.com/wiki/Document/HowTo/ImportUsersInBulk

Hello,
it seems to me that you haven't allowed the host/network to send email. (None is allowed by default).

To give permission, to your host/network you need firstly to create a object which contains the host network.
Then, you must go to Mail->General and click in the 'settings' tab. There you will find a section called 'Relay policy for objects', move your object to the allowed column and save the changes.

Cheers,
  Javier

Installation and Upgrades / Re: content filtering

is there a way to import blacklists into dansguardian from ebox's web interface?

We haven't this feature right now.
However it will be easy to write a perl script which would read a domain list and , through the eBox API, add each one to the proxy's list

Installation and Upgrades / Re: ASK: how to use proxy
« on: December 26, 2007, 03:40:36 pm »
Hello Longthorn,
if you want to use the  transparent proxy option you must have eBox as gateway. In this mode eBox takes care itself for the redirections so you don have to do anything special.

Don hesitate to ask more questions if this message doesn help you

You can activate the transaprent proxy using the checkbox under the 'General Settings' heading. Remember to  enable the HTTP proxy service or you will not get nothing.
To enable content filtering you must go to HTTP Proxy->Filter Settings. In those page you can change the threshold of the content filtering (by default is disabled)

you can have a blacklist of domains for the HTTP proxy in eBox.
In the left menu click in HTTP Proxy->Filter Settings and then in the tab 'Domains filtering'. There you can blacklist any domain.
