Installation and Upgrades / Re: I cannot see my web Server from behind my Linksys Router with ISP Static Address

First things first.
Your modem/router device is NOT in bridge mode.
Set it in bridge mode first.
Then make sure Zentyal is the gateway, following Robb's explanation.
Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Proxy block all https connections
« on: September 24, 2014, 01:05:52 am »
Classic example, not setting it up properly.
In short:
- Transparent proxy doesn't need browser config. In firewall rules all traffic has to be permitted.
- Explicit proxy needs browser configuration. In firewall you have to remove or modify the rule any/any so that users are forced to use the proxy
- If https is not available after setup, check the https port in Squid config. If the port has not been included, Squid will simply deny traffic.
There are a lot of posts on this board explaining the setup.
Cheers.

If you do transparent proxy, https traffic does NOT go through the proxy.
Instead, this seems to be a firewall issue.
Is https allowed in the firewall rules?
Furthermore, "standalone server" in your setup means that it sits between the Internet en your local network?
Do you have two network cards?
Cheers.

Sure it works, I have traffic shaping set up on my own Zentyal server, no problems.
Glad you got it solved, I'll mark the post as solved.

vlan20 in this case is the internal interface.
For upload you should choose the external interface, source object or IP, destination any.
For download choose internal interface (vlan20), source any, destination object or IP.

Yes, that is correct.
Zentyal always had trouble with spaces, periods, hyphens, colon and semicolon.
Look at my sig.

Hi,
Define another rule but on the internal interface. That will limit the download.

You really shouldn't start setting up Zentyal server without basic network knowledge.
There are online documents that explain how to assign static IP's. You may use the official Zentyal documentation on this site.
In zentyal 3.5, go to Network > Interfaces and choose the interface you want to change.
Set method as static and put the desired IP address in the box.
Job done.
Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal start quickly, but connectivity takes minutes.
« on: September 12, 2014, 08:43:34 pm »
Just checking if this is normal?
Booting Zentyal 3.5 is pretty fast as compared to previous versions.
But I've noticed that, once at the desktop and opening the admin page, it is not available.
Also during that time, there is no network connectivity, no Internet.
It takes several minutes before the admin interface becomes available, and everything starts to work.
Is this normal? Do others experience the same issue?
Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Need a hand with Samba ACL's in Zentyal 3.5.
« on: September 12, 2014, 08:21:26 pm »
As usual, I had to work it out by myself. But in the end it was worth it.
This is just one of the many "Linux quirks" that keeps you busy for days.
In Zentyal's Samba implementation, Samba is configured to "ignore system ACL's".
So you would expect that setting permissions is purely a Samba thing. Not so.
Let's say you have, like me, several hd's in your server. You define shares on those drives and set the ACL's accordingly.
Result: Administrator has r/w access, but normal users can't even access the shares.
What happened? Well, Samba does in fact NOT ignore system ACL's although it is explicitly told to do so in smb.conf.
If you look at the samba logs you will find "nt_status_access_denied" errors. Purely a permissions issue.
The solution is altering the file system permissions on the ROOT of the drive where the shares have been defined.
From a Windows machine I did this:
Open WinSCP, in /media you will find the mount points. Right click and choose properties. Set permissions 755 recursively and apply.
Now Samba shares will work properly.
Just like Squid, this is a poor Samba implementation. In Zentyal this should be straight forward but it is not.
Cheers.
