Cool thanks! Yeah I remember the change to Samba4 from 2.2 and was worried some of the same catches might exist!

Hey all, have to rebuild my Domain at home from scratch (server has been great for months!.. just want to change some ideas i used in setup).

I was wondering though, as 3.2 is coming out soon what's the best idea to go with.

Can I "upgrade" to 3.2 when it comes out, or will I need to rebuild my Domain again? (i.e re-add all domain PC's after the upgrade)

Curious because I really don't want to have to re-add them, reset everything up again in a few months when the next one comes out!

Hey all,
This is really late but I had some experience late last year setting up FOG to work on the same PC as Zentyal.  This is good because you can have it all package in one server to network boot installations or useful utilities you might need on the network (i.e my Automated Windows Install).

However, there is one CATCH!   I have noticed subsequent to my FOG install, all the pictures in the Zentyal interface are gone!  Nothing is broken as far as I can tell it all works just as it did, but the Zentyal logo and little pictures in options are no longer showing  :o

First up, you need to have a Zentyal install!  Definitely with DHCP and DNS running.

Download FOG 0.32 from here:http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/ onto your Zentyal Server

- Go to the advanced options in DHCP on the Zentyal Server
-Under the "Thin Client" option (Swear in Zentyal2.2 this was called something else)
             -Next Server = Host
-Host = (IP of your FOG Server)
             -File Path = pxelinux.0

That's it!  I've successfully had Images booting from FOG for a while now.

BUT!  If anyone wants to do this as well and help me on my lost images problem I would be most grateful!!!

Installation and Upgrades / Force Zentyal as master browser [Solved]
« on: December 14, 2012, 02:28:16 am »
Hey all, think I'm having an issue on my home Zentyal where other workstations are taking on as the master browser.

Basically, some PC's are part of the domain, other aren't.  This is causing some issues in searching the network.  Is there any way to force Zentyal as the master browser?  I saw some samba guides on editing SMB.conf but wasn't sure if this would fuck up Zentyal's configuration as i know it uses its own config files.

Anyone know where to set it?  If I can just edit the SMB.conf?  The settings I found were:

 os level = 65
 preferred master = yes
 local master = yes
 domain master = yes

But they don't appear in the SMB.conf of Zentyal.

Hasn't recurred yet.. but I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch.  Might do some large file transfers this weekend to test.

Cheers for this I was definitely thinking of making a setup like this!

I'll try tonight as much earlier success seemed to be premature.  It works fine maybe 2/3 of the time, nice and fast.

But will suddenly start going really slow, barely able to access a share or write anything to it.

Will check the A/V setting off and let you know.

Could be.  Changing the port didn't help unfortunately.

I checked the page source for the login screen and checked the image url and the error stating it was not found on this server.  It's located at:
  • /data/images/title-login.png

Whereabouts locally would that be? Under the Zentyal system directory (also.. which might be where?)

Thank you very much for your insights though, it is helping immensely.

Okay so did this setup on the weekend.  As far as FOG + Zentyal goes so far seems okay on the same server.  Buuuut only thing i've notices which I thought I'd raise as it may be indicative of other issues is the Zentyal Interface images no longer display for some reason.  For example, on the main login screen it just has text "Zentyal Logo" but bo logo like it used too.  Same in the main dashboard, no Zentyal logo and other pictures are missing.

Any thoughts?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Setting Up Group Policy
« on: October 19, 2012, 11:08:16 am »
You sir, are a saviour.  That was indeed the issue.  A note for next time, i will ensure my Zentyal administrator is NOT "Administrator" as that is needed by the Domain.

Phew.

Against your advice (sorry! :( ) i just renamed the DomainAdministrator "logon name" to "Admin".  My stance is it was currently blank so any services that "relied" on it were screwed anyway.  Seems to have worked and it definately lets me apply Group Policy.  Interesting to note, i set up the account I designated as my Administrator to be the same as it, and it still didn't allow Group Policy creations so it must be something to do with special privileges of the inbuilt Domain Administrator.

But again, many thanks!

Awesome, I'll give that a go this weekend and document how I go about it.

Where's best to post a how-to?  Just in the Tips&Tricks?

It would be a good idea as FOG is a VERY good PXE environment and to have it all consolidated would make a powerful system for remote boot imaging and deployment.

Yeah i noticed that and was like "awwwww damn".

Reckon I can recover this server by filling in the logon name (for the Samba Administrator) as "admin"? Or rename the other one?

Thanks for your reply.

I get the same issue if it's a user who is part of the "Domain Admins" but I've noticed what might be my issue.... perhaps.

When I set up Zentyal I set up the user as "Administrator".  Now i think that there may be two "Administrator" users and the system is NOT happy with it.  Does this sound right?

So there's an Administrator user on the Samba side for the Domain Controller aspect.  But my local user for the Zentyal SYSTEM itself is also called "Administrator".  Was this a bad call!? eeep!

*update* Just had a look through AD Management Console, indeed the "Administrator" user in Samba4 has no "User logon name".  So this perhaps leads more credence to this being my actual issue?

Maybe this could be useful for a how-to.  I'll get the specifics for the process if you like but from the top of my head:

- I have a standard Zentyal 3 64bit build set-up as Infrastructure and Office (Domain Server).
-This serves the DHCP and DNS

- I have then build a standard Ubuntu 12 LTS Server, no Service components set up to conflict with the Zentyal.

- Downloaded FOG 0.32 from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/
-Extracted to etc/FOG and run install using "sudo ./installfog.sh
-Follow the instructions here on integrating with an existing network: http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Integrating_FOG_into_an_Existing_Network
-It is important to use these instructions as it directs FOG not to run its own DHCP service but use the one you provide (Zentyal's)

- Go to the advanced options in DHCP on the Zentyal Server
-Under the "Thin Client" option (Swear in Zentyal2.2 this was called something else)
             -Next Server = Host
-Host = (IP of your FOG Server)
             -File Path = pxelinux.0

This has your Zentyal DCHP "Catch" the client, then fob it off to the FOG server which then Boots the PXE environment.

Yes perhaps not the most "Direct" route but it's worked for me!
