Yes, I did and it gave me error message "Impossible to upgrade". I will try to follow what you suggested in the previous post.

If you have done an "apt dist-upgrade" or edited manually the sources.list file your packages system is surely broken.

Actually, I used the upgrade button from admin GUI after that I updated the system to the latest package version.

dpkg -l |egrep -v '^(ii|rc)'
This way you'll see your broken packages.

You could try to back to the old sources.list, do an "apt-get update", remove the new packages and install it again in his old versions.

Afterwards run this command until the packages will be installed:

sudo dpkg –configure -a
Afterwards if you are able to restore your old system, run this command:

sudo sh /usr/share/zentyal/upgrade-to-4.0

I tried to upgrade from zentyal 3.4 to 3.5, but the process stopped with errors.
Now I have not access anymore to admin GUI. I reverted back from trusty to saucy the distro name into

Hi!
It seems to me that your Zentyal version is too old. I fear your best option is to make a fresh install, but you could try this: https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Migration_from_3.0_to_3.5/4.0_version,_Single_Domain_Controller

From Zentyal 4 the upgrade process is realized throught a script that configures the new repos, fix some bugs, and run the apt-get upgrade (This script is runned from the button which describes the wiki that you have found). From 4 to 5 version and from 5 to 6 the process seems to me  secure.

However, many things could be failed on a so complex process although you were able to upgrade to Zentyal 4
Is it a huge system?

Actually, the system is quite small. The problem is that I do not know how to use zentyal very well compared to ubuntu server. I already found some different behaviour with configuration files (mySQL, apache, etc.). I will try to make a new install and to import the most of the setting.
Is there something that you can suggest to me?

Hi,
I have an old installation of zentyal 3.4. I'm analysing https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Updating_your_Zentyal_Server how to manage it and at the same time I'm testing the latest release 6.0. I would like to know if it is advised and possible to perform several upgrade from 3.4 up to 6.0. Moreover, can I just install the latest release 6.0 and import the backup from 3.4 (I do not think so)?

Hi!

Zentyal webadmin runs on nginx so you can configure Apache at your will. (However take note on that SOGo runs on Apache server and all the Zentyal module configurations use "Stubs". So read this: https://doc.zentyal.org/en/appendix-c.html).

Thank you for the fast reply. I know that zentyal run on nginx, but I do not how to setup virtual hosting by using it. I read your link about stubs. I cannot find something related to Web server. I only found nginx.conf.max that is the template for Web administration under core folder:

So can I use virtual hosting with apache without caring about overwriting configuration files?

Hi,
I discovered that starting from Zentyal 4.0, the GUI manager does not provide Web server feature. I know how to setup an apache Web server with virtual hosting in order to have more Web sites. Can I change the apache Web server configuration files without worrying about Zentyal strange behaviour? I mean, could Zentyal change some configuration files by itself? I'm asking this because I found some particular/strange behaviour of Zentyal compared to standard ubuntu server regarding mySQL configuration.

Zentyal uses a very strange policy for mySQL password.
Zentyal user (limited privileges) password is located at:

Thank you for the reply. As I wrote in the previous post, I know how to retrieve the mySQL password for the user zentyal. However, by logging into mySQL with such account I have not root privilege. How can I get it?
Moreover, I installed phpMyAdmin and during the installation it prompted me a choice for the Web server (apache or nginx) and for the mySQL password for phpmyadmin user. Then by using phpMyAdmin I'm able to log in only with zentyal and phpmyadmin account. No one has root access.

Hi,
I recently discovered zentyal. I'm trying it for my main server and I would like to install moodle 3.7 e-learning. I'm having an issue with mySQL root password. I already read https://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=30806.0 about how to find the mySQL zentyal user password. However, I'm not able to create new user nor viewing the current users:

select * from mysql.user;How can I add a root user? I tried the standard command https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/creating-accounts.html but it does not work for insufficient privilege.
Zentyal is based on ubuntu server, however the behaviour in this situation is quite different. Do you have any suggestion?
