Hi if it helps, I have the same problem. 

But I have not recently restored from backup.
Additionally, I have not recently changed the box's domain name.

Thanks! But what I changed was the hostname of the server, not the domainname   Did it work for you to change the /etc/zentyal/users.conf to mk_home = no?

It gives me:

I changed the hostname after making the backup but before restoring. That is the only thing I could think off. Would it help if I send you the backup files (before and after)?

Both are running, a restart doesn't help... 

Any other ideas?

This problem has started with going back to a previous backup.

Could it have to do with changing the hostname? the current hostname is 'instructure.nl'

I just found something interessting. The following cronjob doesn't work:

When excecuted as root: sudo  [ -x /usr/share/zentyal-mail/fetchmail-update ] && /usr/share/zentyal-mail/fetchmail-update
I get: Cannot change user to ebox. Are you root? at /usr/share/perl5/EBox.pm line 178.

Could it indeed be a users problem?

Thanks for your reply!

For me, the problem still exists. But I found a workaround by changing in /etc/zentyal/users.conf the line:

mk_home = yes  to

Code: [Select]

mk_home = no
After this I could add new users again. And because I don't need a home dir for new users so this solves my problem. But the actual problem still exist, Zentyal cannot make any new users with a home directory.

The only thing I changed (after setting back a backup) was changing the hostname. After that I restarted the server ofcourse.

@IChat, ik zag het niet als een aanval. Meer als een mooie aanvulling op mijn ideeën bij Zentyal.  Waarvoor dank!

Hoewel ik al vele jaren enthousiast gebruik maak van verschillende linux distributies weet ik ook dat de communities erg conservatief kunnen zijn. Ik ben echter geneigd dit te vergeten.

Hoi Ichat, dank je wel voor je uitgebreide bericht! Zelf ben ik erg enthousiast over Zentyal en ik zie nu dat de open source (linux) communitie dat misschien niet is. Dat is zeker iets om rekening mee tehouden.
Toch denk ik dat er ook veel Linux enthousiastelingen geintereseerd zijn in Zentyal. Wellicht beginners (zoals ik zelf), maar ook enthousiastelingen die het thuis willen gebruiken of om meer te leren.

Anyway, het aanbod om te helpen staat nog steeds

Het lijkt mij heel positief om twee verschillende evenementen te maken. Zentyal is echt bedoeld voor het gebruik van servers en hier komt een heel ander publiek op af.

De vorige releaseparty van Ubuntu ging erg diep in op het gebruik van Ubuntu voor gevorderden. Het lijkt mij goed als een releaseparty van Ubuntu ook vooral bedoeld is voor mensen met weinig ervaring.

En een releaseparty van Zentyal voor mensen met gemiddelde ervaring met Ubuntu / Linux servers en dat er dan volledig kan worden ingegaan op het gebruik en toepassingen van Zentyal.

Een goed idee! De releaseparty van Ubuntu was, hoewel klein, een groot succes. Die was ook bij XTG

Verder zag ik via twitter dat Ecsys partner is geworden van Zentyal http://ecsys.nl/
Misschien goed om hun te benaderen als spreker?

After some searching around I found a few thing:
This bug has the same issue. http://trac.zentyal.org/ticket/3407

So I tried to restart the users module and after that I got an error that the webserver couldn't get started. But the sites I host are online and also sudo service apache2 status said Apache is running.

The error after restarting:

Ik zie dit topic nu pas. Maar mij lijkt het zeker de moeite waard om een install party te houden. Ik ben in ieder geval geintereseerd. Zou ik kunnen helpen met het organiseren?

After putting a config backup back (System -> import / export configuration) to Zentyal. Don't have al my users anymore. This is because they were not part of the config backup. (I know, I used an old backup...  )

Nou I would like to add the users again, but when I add a new user I get:

I get this error also for adding new users (that did not previously exist). What is going wrong and how can I get the users back?

I tried a different ftp server (pure-ftpd) but I still have the same problem.

Looking at /etc/krb5.conf (see below) I see that the default_realm is not correct. I changed it, but still have the same problem. A few questions:
How do I know I have the right default_realm
Do I need to load the config file again? And how do I do that?
