I don't actually know how to define it fast and clear.

Background:
My ISP hands out broadband internet over fiber. It provides IPTV over VLAN 4 and I have no problems getting it using Zentyal. As soon as I trunk it and allow DHCP on VLAN4 I get appropriate IP address on interface.

Problems:
Problems start when I want "normal" internet as well. Internet "part" does not have defined VLAN tag. Or it's defined as VLAN 0 according to DD-WRT config files pulled from ISP official Inteno routers. ISP support technicians either don't know themselves or say I would not need any tag.

"Zentyal's GUI way" of interface configuration prohibits me from using VLAN 0 ("I'd be getting error message of appropriate values being between 1-4095). It also prohibits any other use of trunked "parent" interface although nothing in linux itself forbids it. I tried it on plain Ubuntu and got instant IP addresses on eth1 (normal Internet) and manually trunked eth1.4 (IPTV) without problems. Config file I edited was /etc/network/interfaces

I would like to see that Zentyal allow further use of trunked parent interface (possibility of assigning static IP/DHCP) and/or include VLAN0 into VLAN configuration.

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal machine won't boot
« on: November 30, 2015, 08:29:03 pm »
Zentyal system (Zentyal Development version 4.2) fails to boot unless I boot into recovery and edit /etc/default/grub manually, commenting out

#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash net.ifnames=1 biosdevname=0"

and uncomment
GRUB_TERMINAL=console
GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480

Reason. Or what I believe it to be

[   10.196483] [drm] VGACON disable radeon kernel modesetting.
[   10.196511] [drm:radeon_init [radeon]] *ERROR* No UMS support in radeon module!

System in question has AMD "Kabini" APU.
It's not "can't see screen but system runs", it's total standstill of a machine until power button has been pressed.

Perhaps it's helpful for somebody else, struggling same issue.

Trying to share out folders in Samba with public access. Zentyal demands enabling Guest account. I enabled it

but it still complains that "Guest" should be enabled

after trying to ignore it and proceeding, still no "Guest" while trying to set up users

Installation and Upgrades / occasional lag spikes
« on: October 25, 2013, 03:35:37 am »
Hello. I ran into issue where I am often getting lag spikes while playing. Games were Battlefield 3 and 4 Open Beta.

lag itself consists of "be doing something and you sometimes move  back to where you were second or two a go". It often gets me killed because for other players in the same server I appear during a moment of such lag as motionless (or drive straight ahead in vehicles).

I am after some testing  convinced that Zentyal serving my home net is responsible. Why?
a) started noticing lag spikes right after installing Zentyal
b) had never any lag while this  box ran pure FreeBSD firewall or I shut the Zentyal machine down and connected WAN cable directly to gaming PC.

Said "box" has Socket754 desktop motherboard with AMD Turion64 ML-34, 1Gb RAM and 500Gb notebook Sata HDD.NIC is Intel Pro1000 for PCI slot and integrated nvidia gigabit LAN.

Internet connection is 100/20Mbit fiber with open ports and no traffic shaping from ISP.

For start I tried removing every other Zentyal package not necessary for firewalling and NAT. Had same exact lag issue even with the barest Zentyal setups possible.

Any advice or similar experience with eventual solution would be nice.

Edit: version of the Zentyal is latest 64bit variant, installed without X (downloaded about week a go and fully updated). Not beta.
