If so many people want the "gateway" version of Zentyal why not to "fork" it or support it some how. As i can see from zentyal git all the modules are in contrib repo and licensed under GPL v2

You are totally right, all our past work is in a public repo with a free licence, any person is encouraged to continue that work.

That functionality is related with a gateway server, we are not going that direction anymore.

They should also keep the Firewall module + Network, if we're really going to use Zentyal as PDC need to take control of the network and DNS.

??? Those modules are still there.

what modules have been dropped from 4.0?
what is the future direction of Zentyal?
Of note is the current book is still at 3.2 sp2 for study. Is there a 4.0 book coming? How will the exam be impacted by the changes?

- HA, jabber, l2tp, squid, trafficshaping

- Active Exchange => Directory, mail and groupware (plus the basic network configuration and web administration of course)

- We expect to have the 4.1 book ready next month

News and Announcements / Mailfilter and Antivirus modules

Hello all,

After all the feedback, we have reconsidered the removal of the "mailfilter" and "antivirus" modules. This functionality is closely related to the "Active Exchange" (Samba + Mail + OpenChange) long term vision of the company, therefore, they will be back later this week.

Regards.

Hello,

Regarding the backup solution, there is a tutorial to configure Duplicity since zentyal-backup was no longer maintained:

https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Data_backups_with_Duplicity

For other questions regarding the migration to new versions and features of OpenChange, it is probably much better if you solve these issues through your partner manager/support platform. Forum is for community.

Hello all,

First of all, we understand that old-time Zentyal users are not happy with the current product direction. We have radically changed our focus, and some people joined the project because they liked the original idea, that is inevitable. Now we are developing the only native connector for Microsoft Outlook in a Linux environment, is what makes us unique, our main value (along with a nice interface and integration for the Samba AD) and we don't have the resources to realistically maintain a sizable number of modules that are not related to that scenario. In any case, all the former modules are open source and any volunteer is encouraged to browse the code, maintain it and continue our work:

https://github.com/Zentyal/zentyal/tree/master/contrib

Long story short, we wanted to change our core business, some new friends will come, excited with the new proposal, some old friends will prefer to leave, we thank you all.

There is a way to configure a polling mechanism in the client that could mitigate this problem for some use cases:

Just type

$ arch

x86_64 is 64 bits.

Hello all,

that was a small glitch in the documentation that should be fixed by now.

Both TLS and 'require authentication' are always on now, so they have been removed from the GUI.

Hello tigerman,

I have just tried the netbios aliases and they seem to work fine, you just need to create an alias with the name of the former servers

Code: [Select]
sudo mkdir -p /etc/zentyal/stubs/samba
sudo cp /usr/share/zentyal/stubs/samba/smb.conf.mas /etc/zentyal/stubs/samba

edit the file '/etc/zentyal/stubs/samba/smb.conf.mas and add the aliases, in my example:

Code: [Select]
...
[global]
    workgroup = <% $workgroup %>
    realm = <% $realm %>
    netbios name = <% $netbiosName %>
    netbios aliases = somename, someothername
    server string = <% $description %>
    server role = <% $mode %>
    server role check:inhibit = yes
...

Then, just

Code: [Select]
sudo service zentyal samba restart

And your clients should be able to resolve the netbios name or any of its alias.

News and Announcements / New wiki instructions
« on: March 06, 2014, 03:23:12 pm »
Hello all,

The new zentyal community wiki - https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Zentyal_Wiki - is already taking shape, here you have a little FAQ:

- Do I need to create an account for this service?
No, forum accounts will authenticate in the wiki as well.
- How can I edit the community pages?
    https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/How_to_edit_this_wiki
- I have found an error / I want some page to be included in the "protected" part of the wiki
Any feedback is welcome at wiki@zentyal.com

Hope this is clarifying  :D

For the documentation, what will be the new structure of the mediawiki environment?
Will it just be search based (all documents will be in 1 large directory) and tagged with search words? Or will there be subject and language based subdirectories?

How will the wiki be moderated to insure accurate info? And how will it be protected against spam?

Ok good questions, I have not 100% decided yet, but probably will follow the same structure as the course, one folder per language, inside this folder all the documents and the index, with the relevants links (main, next, etc...)

It's working for me, probably a brief service interruption related to the migration to the new .org
