Installation and Upgrades / Re: Windows ME as EBOX File Sharing Client
« on: March 29, 2009, 03:05:05 pm »
I know the answer! There's a bug (if there's not then someone's got a feature wrong). Just keep it as a PDC server and not "File Server". Setup your users and make sure to assign them as having read/write access, and you're good. Need more help?
I did that and it worked for me. And make sure your ME system's workgroup name is the same as the eBox one you setup. eBox's default workgroup is EBOX (go figure) and your ME one is either MSHOME or WORKGROUP. It should work either way but it's much easier if they're the same.
I'm just wondering why you have a machine running ME. I thought Microsoft stopped all support for it.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Thin Client
« on: March 29, 2009, 03:01:55 pm »
Ok bud, I think you've got it, but here's what I'll say just in case.
The "Next server" is what the DHCP server is looking at as your Thin Client server. It doesn't seem to allow more than on. Then you make sure to boot from PXE on other machines as usual.
Say you want to use the eBox as the server. Either put the file in there yourself and point to the directory or do the "browse" and upload your own. Yes, there's not much, but that's my understanding.
I'm doing it just as you are and will tell you if I can boot the ISO file for Oracle Enterprise Linux.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Change to a custom subnet
« on: March 29, 2009, 08:15:57 am »
If I use DHCP, I'll lose the IP I've had since April. yeah I can DHCP for one address, but I'm in agreement w/ my provider that I can do this, I'm just not supposed to, ha ha ha. It's just how their system works that allows me to keep that IP for that card's MAC.
The interface doesn't allow me to select a custom CIDR number if that's what you're saying.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: DHCP not starting and eBox says it is

Oh, the issue was that one of the statically assigned IPs had a + sign, and it took.

I think I found the issue, but no fix.

The first issue there is what I ran into again. It was all working 100% fine and then I enabled the IP ranges for eth3:1 using 2.2.2.3 - 2.2.2.254, and it dies and never comes back. At least this time the Internet is working, ha ha ha.

Installation and Upgrades / Hooking up a Phone or Windows Mobile device as an Internet Source
« on: March 28, 2009, 11:40:19 am »
I have a Windows Mobile device I use when my Internet has gone out, and I hook it up to my laptop and do Internet Connection Sharing through the ethernet jack. I've had this phone work in Linux Mint and have it show up in Elive (although not the Internet part). I'm wondering if I can set it up so eBox finds it on the fly and knows what it is.
This particular phone shows up as ID 0bb4:0b2e High Tech Computer Corp. in lsusb.
but it comes up as 0bb4:0303 High Tech Computer Corp. when connecting as a Modem. Although it's not really a modem because it's got its own DHCP server and creates an Ethernet interface in eBox that it is the DHCP server for. It works if I am using Active Sync mode, but not Internet Connection mode.
The reason I ask is because eBox is built as box designed for many functions via a simple web interface. I'm sure, provided the drivers get installed somehow, that it can support this sort of an interface, that would be a great way to have an alternate connection method if my main source of Internet ever goes out.
If I can get this out, I hope more people can see this post and use their phones in the same way.

Installation and Upgrades / DHCP to two subnets & multiple public IPs with the same Gateway
« on: March 28, 2009, 11:28:48 am »
First thing, I just found out I got eBox when it was released to the public. Kinda funny actually since I was given the link randomly by someone. Congrats on the 1.0 ISO people! Great job.
I have two configuration issues.
FIRST ISSUE
PROBLEM
I found out that the DHCP server fails to start if you have one physical interface giving out IPs to two subnets even though one of the subnets is only statically assigning IPs.
EXAMPLE
eth0 = 1.1.1.1
Assigns IPs based on MAC address: 1.1.1.2 and 1.1.1.3
eth0:1 = 2.2.2.2
Assigns IPs to a range of IPs: 2.2.2.3 - 2.2.2.254
QUESTION
Do I need bridging or static routes to do something like this? I looked up bridging in the forums and saw a bunch of IP table stuff, I don't really understand.
SECOND ISSUE
PROBLEM
I can receive multiple IPs from my ISP, but I need to DHCP them first to use them. I am assigned them based on MAC address. Sometimes they have the same Gateway, sometimes not.
EXAMPLE
I have eth0, eth1, and eth2. eth0 gets 64.4.4.4 and eth1 gets 64.6.6.6 both assigned to Gateway 64.1.1.1 and eth2 gets 65.5.5.5.
QUESTION
I'm guessing I need to setup static routes, but I'd kind of like this to be dynamic where I can change which public IP is going to a machine on-the-fly say if I have a public server on 64.4.4.4 and another on 64.6.6.6, but I need to take down the server on the machine using IP 64.6.6.6, so then I have to have the machine using 64.4.4.4 change to 64.6.6.6 or have it use both IPs at the same time. This is the kind of stuff I'd like to know how to do.

And I just did apt-get upgrade and there are quite a few. I really think I should upgrade, but is it recommended? I can't figure out what specifically broke the last build I made.
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get upgrade
Code: [Select]
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
dash ebox ebox-mail ebox-mailfilter ebox-openvpn ebox-printers ghostscript
libcurl3-gnutls libglib2.0-0 libgs8 linux-image-2.6.24-23-server sudo
12 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 24.5MB of archives.
After this operation, 4096B of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Ebox install HOWTO. (Part 1)
« on: March 28, 2009, 08:16:49 am »
Funny thing, this worked for me this time. This is the 4th time I've formatted and installed eBox and this is the first time I have Internet access to my computers, but for some reason, the eBox has not one bit of access, not even apt-get. What in the world! lol.

Installation and Upgrades / DHCP not starting and eBox says it is
« on: March 28, 2009, 03:13:45 am »
"The module was restarted correctly." but it wasn't because it's still off even if I hit start. I saw someone with a problem from July but it was just magically fixed for this person. I started having DHCP issues when I put 3 NICs more in the server.

Installation and Upgrades / Change to a custom subnet
« on: March 27, 2009, 10:34:44 pm »
If this feature isn't already in eBox, I kinda need it asap. My ISP only gives out 255.255.248.0 subnet masks and that's not an available option. I guess I didn't really notice. Is there any way to manually set this up without breaking anything?
Thanks!
[EDIT]: All it seems I need to do is add 255.255.248.0 somewhere as a valid subnet. I can get a connection but can't force EBOX to see the gateway a valid address because it thinks the subnet is something else.
Since eBox uses PHP and XML files for the config, I think I can do it, but I don't know where to go.
Thanks!

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Needing eBox install CD even to use apt-get?
« on: March 27, 2009, 07:20:53 pm »Edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file.
Remove or comment all CD-ROM related lines.
Add the following line:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ebox/ubuntu hardy main
And then execute: apt-get update
Hope this helps!
Regards,
J.A. Calvo
I did that and it works thanks! I just wanna make sure, this probably won't break anything right?
And "sudo apt-get install screen" says screen doesn't exist. I'm thinking maybe I have to add a bunch more to the repos list?

Yeah, those were the files. w3m still had issues even using the 1.0 ISO though.
I switched over to the 1.0 ISO and haven't had TLS issues since.
