I can connect to the VPN from the internal network so long as I specify the correct Ethernet adapter, but specifying "all network interfaces" does not seem to include my non-external interfaces so I'm assuming either there needs to be better documentation on this or that there need to be two more available options: "all internal interfaces" and "all external interfaces" to better explain the confusion.

There's this unsolicited IP from Germany--85.190.0.3--connecting into my VPN with an UNDEF security cert. Is this supposed to happen? I had the "Client authorization by common name:" setup as Disabled because the documentation makes it seem like disabling that option makes any of your eBox's cert authority signed certificates able to connect in, but is this wrong?

Even after upgrading to eBox 1.4, this issue still persists. I have tried with PDC on and off, but the machines' samba shares are not able to be accessed by NetBIOS name or IP.

After a few hours of work, I've almost figured out why Samba isn't working. It's complaining about some /var/run/samba pid file not running but the samba daemons are definitely running as /etc/init.d/samba starts works. I checked in further and eBox is definitely skimping anytime it has to enable Samba. It does not and has not changed the /etc/samba/smb.conf file. I even moved the file elsewhere and noticed no changes even if the Samba daemon was stopped.

Both of my machines are continually getting these error messages and changing the domain name to ebox or anything else doesn't seem to help.

It wouldn't let me edit user accounts until the groups "Domain Admins" and "Administrators" were created in eBox. After enabling myself as an Administrator using the checkbox, eBox automatically added me to both groups. That is strange.

I am still unable to edit groups though. Is there one extra group I need created for things to work smoothly?

Installation and Upgrades / [SOLVED] PDC tab shows jibberish error now

When I upgraded to eBox 1.3 from 1.2, eBox delisted the port 443. I have eBox on a different port than 443 and have had it like that for months. It used to work, it no longer does since I upgraded to 1.3 on the 22nd of January. There's a firewall rule setup because the port is closed, not stealth, but since eBox keeps resetting it, Apache stops listening.

I can't change the case of the domain/workgroup name in the File Sharing area. I tried all CAPS and all lower but it didn't work. I tried changing /etc/samba/smb.conf. Reloaded samba, it had it written correctly. Reloaded ebox-samba, and it overwrote it again.

It's currently spelling it as: Aaaaa

After running apt-get update then apt-get dist-install, eBox finished updating but it appears as though Samba and related shares were removed. eBox claims Samba is installed via the software manager, but that's not possible. I then went to an ran apt-get to see if anything was amok.

Code: [Select]
root@grubber:~# apt-get install ebox-samba

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ebox-samba: Depends: ebox-usersandgroups but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
root@grubber:~#

Sure enough, Samba was not only gone, but now contains broken packages. I do remember the installer asking me what domain my Samba server is on, and I typed that in; otherwise, nothing else was samba-related.

Removing the package from Software Manager in eBox revealed:

Interface eth1 does not exist.
An internal error related to a template has occurred. This is a bug, relevant information can be found in the logs.

I used to use eth1 for my external, but for a long time ago I switched it to eth0 because eth1 failed. I still had it plugged in, and it complained until I set it up with a static IP. I finally took out the card and now it keeps complaining eth1 doesn't exist when I'm on the Dashboard. I'm assuming something from when I had eBox 1.0 or 1.1 is still referencing it. Any way to fix this please? Thanks.

Installation and Upgrades / What exactly is the ebox-quarantine folder?
« on: January 14, 2010, 01:37:44 pm »
I'm assuming it has to do with the virus scanner, but how is that folder handled? What's in it? What happens to those files? How accurate is the virus scanner?

Installation and Upgrades / Postgre SQL taking up 2.7GB

/var/lib/postgresql/8.3/main/base/16384 taking up 2.7GB

Since eBox is the only thing I know using Postgre, I'm assuming there are a bunch of log files in the database that need to be cleared out OR the monitor module is crazy.

Installation and Upgrades / Cannot copy files over 2GB via Samba
« on: January 08, 2010, 10:50:32 am »
There's something about mounting Samba shares as lfs (large file system) so you can work with files over 2GB in size. I have some very large files I'd like to access over Samba from my eBox machine. I cannot seem to grab a hold of those files and it's only the files over 2GB that I cannot access. Is eBox doing something that needs to be fixed so I can access files over 2GB?

I had a lot of issues with my eBox 1.2 build for many reasons and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Always some sort of foomatic issue and some other things. Finally, I got an idea. I remember Javi talking about how the package manager source locations changed and I modified my eBox 1.1 and old 1.2 list locations to only: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ebox/1.2/ubuntu hardy main. You need to make sure you run apt-get update, then run your normal apt-get options such as dist-upgrade. Now eBox is at 1.2.3 instead of 1.2. It's back to being speedy and works as it should. Since I already configured a second server to take over as I put this one to rest, it's good to know I was finally able to fix that issue. I can't believe the fix was so easy.

EXTRA NOTES
Never ever put a Debian or non-Ubuntu location in /etc/apt/sources.list unless the people you're getting the location from have strictly said it's okay to use such as deb http://oss.oracle.com/debian unstable main non-free for Oracle XE otherwise you can screw up everything. My entire problem happened because Lenny had a newer version of SSH which I needed, and I thought it'd be alright to just download that one package. Little did I know it would  also change all of my other packages and dependencies. I spent weeks trying to downgrade all my packages back to what they were supposed to be at.
