Installation and Upgrades / Re: Support System
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:14:07 pm »
let me first start by saying this is the fast reply I have ever got on this forum.

Difference between Open Source Software and Freeware is not well understood, here also  ::)

I'm well aware of it.

This being said, I agree that such document is a bit confusing as it looks like community edition is more sandbox than anything else  :-[

apparently it is, when you don't get any decent patches and updates.
and you start getting weird insane behavior from the firewall which start dropping packets
by it's own and some other weird crap that let me fall back to IPCOP.

Of course, as Zentyal is based on opensource, you do know that you might be able to reach almost same level of feature running similar components (OpenLDAP, Squid, Apache, Postfix) by yourself for free. What will be missing here in Zentyal interface, of course  ;D but you may use Webmin...

been there done that.
I only moved to Zentyal well originally ebox because it was faster to setup and maintain.

I think it is one of the strong points to use Zentyal: there is not another 'commercial' version. The community version is as reliable as the version with commercial support contract.

Well guess not and let me quote from the PDF Community edition gets none of those.
Code: [Select]
Bug fixes, patches and workarounds
Automatic updates
Tested system updates
Content filtering updates
Intrusion detection updates
Antivirus updates
Antispam updates

While I can get these for free from other systems like IPCOP and PFSENSE.
It's starting to look like just an other version of M$ Windows, what a shame.

I do understanding that Zentyal and everyone else needs to make money,
but not by preventing updates and making it a paid service.

anyways my 2 cents.

After checking this pdf document
http://www.zentyal.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/2012_full_zentyal_edition_comparition_chart_en.pdf

is it safe to assume that if we don't pay Zentyal Money $$ we will be getting a crappy software that won't work
or behave saintly most of the time ??

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Squid Bulk Input

I don't think anyone is willing to help, so don't put your hopes up that high.

I was able to get something working with dansguardian, but I had to fall back
to the shell and do everything manually which ignore the concept of zentyal in the first place.

If you need those let me know.

Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / Firewall
« on: May 16, 2012, 11:34:21 am »
Hello,

I've been fighting with this issue since morning.
I have a static host on a different subnet which I'm routing to via Zentyal.
It was working great yesterday but today the firewall keeps on dropping the connection to it
if access via anything expect of ping.

I also created an iptable rule via the web interface to explicitly allow it but still no good.
ACCEPT    Any    192.168.1.250/32    any    --

Chain fglobal (1 references)
target     prot opt source               destination
ACCEPT     all  --  anywhere             192.168.1.250

2012-05-16 12:22:38  eth1 eth1 172.16.0.249 192.168.1.250 TCP 41129 443 DROP
2012-05-16 12:13:00  eth1 eth1 172.16.0.249 192.168.1.250 TCP 47858 10000 DROP

So what am I doing wrong ?

Cheers.

That's good news.
An API list or code structure/hierarchy would be great.

Installation and Upgrades / Widgets
« on: May 14, 2012, 03:23:41 pm »
Hello,

I need to create my own widget, I was able to modify the links-widget.mas,
but this one won't be called periodically.
Where should I place my widget and how to register it so it can be called periodically.

Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: DHCP lease widget
« on: May 14, 2012, 11:24:02 am »
I checked the DHCP server man page, it seems that they only log the IP generated from
the range not the groups.
Apparently the widget is parsing this file /var/lib/dhcp3/dhcpd.leases .

Now the question will change, is there a way to see the currently  connected IPs to the gateway via
DHCP lease, DHCP fixed host or static ?

Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / DHCP lease widget
« on: May 14, 2012, 09:32:45 am »
Hello,

I created multiple network objects, to fix IP addresses based on the machine MAC address,
and I also created an object with an ip range.
Now on the DHCP lease widget in dashboard, I only see the computer connected from the range
not from the fixed IPs.
Is that a bug? Is there a workaround so I can be able to see all the other connected computers?

Cheers

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Blinking screen in virtual machine
« on: July 15, 2011, 01:48:26 pm »
Hey,

Thanks for the openbox removing tip, totally solved my problem.
I also removed slim, but it keeps on asking for it each times it boot. How to fix that??

Now regarding interaction with zentyal from the xencenter and turn into PV (paravirtualization)
I followed this tutorial http://www.jansipke.nl/installing-xenserver-tools-on-ubuntu-10-04  , it worked great.

Hope that was helpful...

I checked the password problem it worked, I will disable the usercorner.

Thank you for the fast reply.

1. If I understand correctly, you already had some users added before running the installation Wizards? These Wizards are generally useful and used on new installations only, so that may be the reason because no one has reported this problem before.

No I installed the server with the installation wizards then I added the new users. In the installation wizard I skipped the mail configuration option.

2. That option is on the File Sharing (Samba) module, it's a PDC setting, that affects only Windows clients. When that option was added the usercorner didn't even exist.
I'm not aware the samba let's you change the password from the windows machine, I will check it.

3. Regarding b, the message seems to be incorrect, but if you simply enter "urlblacklist" without special characters it will work.

Code: [Select]
5. I don't think there is need to set it as DHCP. Change it to static, make sure you don't have another gateway added with a wrong IP. Set the address of the interface to one in the same network of the gateway and try to add the gateway again. If you still can reproduce it, please file a ticket in trac with the detailed steps.
I will reproduce it and send a ticket and I'll post ticket with the other.

But I would like to know how to fix the DHCP problem since this a major one for me now and the proxy one.

regards,

I've been using this product since the days of ebox 1.4, I never used most of it's option but last week I did and  what a disappointment it was.
Note:: On this box I have Zentyal 2.17, latest update so far with everything else updated.

1- In the installation I chose to skip the configuration of the mail server,  because i don't need it and in this installation zentyal was giving me the chance to so. Well thanks to that I end up having a long list of nonworking users because I did not have a virtual mail configured (Again I don't want it nor need it) that made the hole list unusable, after some wasted time trying to figure out why the users aren't able to login to the shares yet they were able to login to the user corner with no problem.
I then enabled the email module, configured a dummy domain and tested with a new created user and tada I was in but that meant i had to delete all the users and add them again.

2- Why do you have options that don't actually do what they are supposed to do??
That was my second problem, I enabled the "Minimum Password Length" to 8 characters and guess what, when I was changing the password in the user corner one character was more then enough...

3- PROXY...
a- As I've read somewhere that you guys did a replication of the default profile to the new
created profiles(meaning the extension and mime list) but no it wasn't working.
b- I got that annoying error
Code: [Select]
The input contains invalid characters. All alphanumeric
characters, plus these non alphanumeric chars: /.?&+:-@ and spaces are allowed.
when I was adding to add a url list. I tried both http://urlblacklist.com/ and
        http://www.shallalist.de/.
c- I set the proxy to scan an object, then I added a group to it. When I was choosing a
custom filter profile, Zentyal refused  it by saying it only accept a custom profile...
(well this gave me a big laugh :p)

4- DHCP...
OMG this thing really get to my nerves, If i knew this would give me that many problems I wouldn't bothered with it in the first place. So I created three object list with each member in the first two list containing a list of ips a mac address and a host name(like instructed by the dhcp help). and the third object was a dhcp range. I created three virtual IPs then I assigned each object to it's IP in the dhcp interface. DHCP provided the wrong IP to the wrong machine,  none of the object were given an ip only the last one with the range and after a while it stopped working.

5- GATEWAY...
This one is really weird :P. I wanted to use the box as an internal firewall, so of course it had two ethernet, one for the lan and the other to take internet from my primary firewall/Router. I was able to ping the router from Zentyal but Zentyal refused to add the router as a gateway saying "Gateway unreachable". After some checking I really didn't know what wrong with it, so i had to enable the dhcp server from my router and give zentyal an ip.

There are plenty more bugs, but those where more likely to ruin my week, and my long waited weekend. I would really like some explanation and thank you.

Regards
