Title: New feature available in 1.5 (testing wanted): bridged mode
Post by: J. A. Calvo on June 24, 2010, 02:21:34 pm
Hi fellow eBoxers,

Via our http://planet.ebox-platform.com/ we have exciting news: the first version of eBox including bridged mode is out.

The packages are also available in the 1.5 repository (the change involves a lot of packages so you should upgrade all of them).

As there is no official documentation for 1.5 yet, the post by Carlos has the instructions on how to configure the bridged mode:

As usual, your help testing it is really important to help us catch any bug. Suggestions are also welcome ;)

Happy testing! We are waiting for your feedback!

Seems really interesting. I already put 1.5 into effect in a small business this morning at their request. They only need it for file serving anyway. I wanted to mess around w/ it some to see all the changes. Aside from the OS though, I don't see much different for some reason aside from some extra optional text boxes to type information in. Bridging made-easy would set eBox up there with OpenWrt as it's designed for stuff like that. I find it fascinating that bridging is a possibility and  hope that it will extend to OpenVPN as well, but I didn't see the feature myself, or I would've tested it.

My biggest gripe in any new eBox install is that I still have to install from a CD. I had the USB drive in there, and it was working until the installer wanted to mount the CD image and failed at which point I had to quickly burn a CD, pop it in, and hit "retry".
