I forgot to add an update to my post. I discovered the known limitation too, and have been successfully using the rsync method for some time now. Nevertheless, thanks for your response and tip.

Just wanted to thank you for reporting back on your solution. A year and a half later, Zentyal 5.08… same problem, same solution.

Thanks. Yeah, I found that linked along with alternative methods here, but I'm still hoping to find out how it's supposed to work in Zentyal and fix it. Nevertheless, you're the only person to respond at all and I appreciate it.  ;)

Can anyone help me out here? I see that this post has been read several times, so there must be some interest in it.

I have a PDC and two additional DCs, all running Zentyal Development version 5.0.7. DRS replication is working fine but SYSVOL replication is not happening. I was hoping someone could explain to me how it's supposed to work so I can troubleshoot it. I'm not sure what scripts or services are involved or where to look for logs.

The only somewhat non-standard thing about my setup I can think of that might be involved is that one of the two additional DCs was the original PDC running Zentyal 4.2.5. The current PDC was set up as an additional DC and then I transferred FSMO roles to it. I was just going to demote the original 4.2.5 DC but when I discovered SYSVOL replication wasn't working, I upgraded it to 5.0.7 to see if it would make a difference. It didn't.

Installation and Upgrades / Replication problems
« on: February 22, 2017, 08:07:59 pm »
I'm having replication problems with domain controllers listed below. I've done some googling trying to figure out what WERR_BADFILE means and what to do about it, but have come up empty-handed. As far as SYSVOL replication is concerned, I haven't been able to find information on how Zentyal does it; i.e. what scripts or services are involved and how to troubleshoot. I'd be very appreciative if anyone could help me out with this.

I've attached 'samba-tool drs showrepl' results for each controller so as not to exceed the maximum post length by including them inline. Note the error at the end of the report from pavel; I'm not sure if it's relevant.

Let me know of any other information I can provide that would be useful.

Domain controllers:
  • sarek: Zentyal 4.2.5, first DC created, working fine
  • pavel: Zentyal 5.0.7, created several weeks ago, FSMO roles transferred to it from sarek, DRS replication working but not SYSVOL replication
  • montgomery: Zentyal 5.0.7, newly created, not replicating DRS or SYSVOL from sarek or pavel.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Updating/extending AD schema

Thanks. Yeah, I figured I'd have to go that direction. I'm going to take a break from it until after the holidays, and then if I have any success, I'll post what I did here.

Have a great Christmas!

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Updating/extending AD schema

I tried this in a test environment with virtual machines and it didn't work. I edited the .ldf files to reference my DC. The classes file seemed to import without any trouble using the -k switch on ldifde to skip entries that already exist. But I got several "invalid syntax" errors when importing the attributes.

Can anyone help me out here?

Installation and Upgrades / Updating/extending AD schema
« on: December 06, 2016, 01:56:11 am »
I want to update my AD schema to include a particular attribute that was added in Windows Server 2012. I think I know how to do it; I just want to ask if I'm correct before I go and do something potentially stupid.

I think all I need to do is download "Classes and attributes in the Active Directory schema for Windows Server" from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23782 and, from a Windows machine in my domain, use LDIFDE to import Attributes_for_AD_DS__Windows_Server_2012.ldf and Classes_for_AD_DS__Windows_Server_2012.ldf.

Is that right?

Thanks in advance.

It's two and a half years later, but I wanted to say that you, sir, are a life saver.

Also, for anyone else who comes here looking for this solution, the path to sam.ldb for the ldbdel command has changed in Zentyal 4. It is now /var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb.
