Installation and Upgrades / Clean upgrade
« on: February 14, 2010, 07:49:44 pm »
Hi All,

My ebox installation has been running on 1.0 for a few years now.

I tried upgrading, but have had an issue with the firewall which keeps on blocking me out.
Unfortunately, this makes it a little bit difficult to actually make any configuration changes and know if they have gone through properly since it's a web-based app...

The only thing I really care about is the user data on the samba share, so I'm thinking that it might be easiest to just wipe the install, recreate it from scratch and then restore the home directories.

What processes would I need to go through to just do a straightforward restore on the home partition? Could I just create the users in the front end and then restore the backups of the user data into those directories?

If not, is there a way to restore the firewall back to "factory settings" and then recreate my configuration from scratch on that without removing all the other services that depend on it?

... Or are there any other recommendations that could help?

Many thanks,

Jx

Hi everyone,

I restored a backup configuration, and my user folders were deleted...
I had 100GB of data in there so not good...
I'm hoping that I can restore from other backups...

Installation and Upgrades / Having problems saving configuration
« on: July 17, 2009, 11:41:25 am »
I'm having 2 problems...

Firstly, when I try to save the fiewall configuration, the system locks me out until I run a "invoke-rc.d ebox firewall stop".
I'm pretty sure it's set correctly, as I restored this from a working backup...

When I try to save anything now, I get the error message:-

"Some modules reported error when saving changes . More information on the logs in /var/log/ebox/

id serv5689 does not exist."

I also get "id serv5689 does not exist" when I try to start the firewall...
After which time, it seems to be starting the firewall, but with a configuration where I can't access the server.

Is there somewhere that I can manually edit the firewall settings, or do I have to use the gui?

Cheers,

Jx

Hi everyone,

What is the simplest way to upgrade an old Debian Sarge installation to a Hardy Installation...
... And are there any components that were in the Sarge version that are not included in the Hardy version?

Many thanks,

Jx
