Subj?

How to access to samba shares (or eBox samba itself for shares list) without creation of users, anonymously?

How to use a built-in user(s) -- eboxadmin, root or setup-time-created admin user -- for a samba access?

How to read a mail that's created by a non-eBox (standard or 3rd-party) daemons (not an ebox monitors) and addressed to a root and/or admin user?

Installation and Upgrades / eBox and mgetty -- is this possible?
« on: April 21, 2010, 04:59:24 pm »
I need a simplest fax "receiver" that only recieves faxes and places them into one dir. Previously it was done with mgetty-fax and some simple scripts for bitmap conversions and datetime-based naming.

Is this possible in eBox (1.4-1)? Did eBox plays with (and overwrites) tty configs an related things?

Subj?

I mean a full set of gateway/proxy/filter/shaper/etc features on a box with two interfaces, one of them marked "external", but both in a one ip subnet with a standalone adsl gateway. This way clients can access to Inet even without eBox, but via eBox by default.

In the other words: 192.168.1.0/24 net, 192.168.1.1 adsl gateway with own nat, eBox with 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.22 ifaces, eBox dhcp gives to clients .22 as "default gate", also all clients set up with a manual gateway .1 with very high metric

When both ifaces are "internal" then a proto filter and many other things claims for "impossible! no ext iface" and a similar trash. When one iface marked as "ext" then at least samba networking goes into shit because a firewall DROPs netbios packets on both ifaces :(

How to make a thing that's "generic" for many other distros works?

I've set up a fresh 1.4-1 with DNS and DHCP in a small SOHO-grade LAN. All hosts named with a ".local" private domain name (server.local, john.local etc.). DNS was set to a "factory" standalone caching (no forwarders, no autoritative domains) mode.

When I set up a DHCP and allows DHCP clients registration in DNS I use this "local" name. Then in a DNS config I can see this domain but readonly and can't add anything to it. When I add this "local" to DNS and then set up a DHCP and allows clients registration this domain makes readonly too and I can't add anything to it too.

How to setup (like in a most SOHO LANs) an only one DNS domain name both for a static hosts and DHCP clients?

Installation and Upgrades / "Save changes" -- save WHAT???
« on: April 10, 2010, 06:22:37 pm »
WTF with "Save changes" turns red w/o any modifications?

Just a four mins ago I've web-logged into a fresh ebox uptimed for about a two days. Previous weblogin was a two hrs before for a twenty mins while I've looked over Events etc. and "Save" stills green. Now I've went through Events / Log observer / Config and then back to Events without ANY modification and "Save changes" turns red! Why?!?

So I'm a bit surprised. WTF shall I "save" while I've changed nothing? What changes exactly? And what was changed really?

BTW this is not only case when a "Save" shows that something need to b saved while nothing was changed by operator.

Seems like this Great Something lives their own life in their own world :)

Installation and Upgrades / webgui broken after logger(?) crash
« on: April 03, 2010, 12:39:34 pm »
eBox 1.4-1.
1st on some reboot a lot of modules/services started to show [FAIL].
On next reboot (after manual FS checking just to b sure and w/o errs) some (but less) modules still [FAIL].
A 1st [FAIL] shown by "monitor".
After complete booting a tty1 shows a tail of a messages with two occurence of
Code: [Select]
Error in line 66 near '
': syntax error
yyparse returned error #1
/etc/rc2.d/S95collectd: line 62: (PID here) Seg. fault $DAEMON -t -C "CONFIGFILE"
and a box is unaccessible from net and gdm didn't starts too (but after manual starting ssh I can ssh to box).

Most curious that when I logs on to webgui I got a fancy page with a green topbar (ebox logo, logout, green "save") and a reddish <div> with a
Code: [Select]
An internal error has occured. This is most probably a bug, relevant info can b found in the logs.only and nothing more. And even when I go onto some page directly (via browser history) I got the same "An internal error...".

This happened after some experiments with firewall/portforward and interface reconfiguration (all via gui), so if this is related somehow then it's strange relation.

Which logs contains a "relevant info" mentioned in webgui errortext?

How to repair/reset-to-factory/etc eBox in a "generic" (console) way?

Installation and Upgrades / MANUAL config tuning -- how 2 do?
« on: February 14, 2010, 03:50:59 pm »
While eBox IMO similar a bit to pfSense -- 1) both aimed to full visual config via gui like many bulk hw appliances, 2) both allows func extension via installation of "generic" packages from a underlying base sys repo and 3) both regenerates almost every config when something done via admin iface -- they has a big difference: a pfSense has an ability to make manual changes permanent. It's done in a two ways at least -- 1) backup config, edit and then restore edited (this way for example one more iface on the same nic can b created) and 2) edit underlying php scripts and includes (this way tunes config regenerating).

What ways are in eBox? Where a tunable underlying parts placed are?

For example, what mean a
Quote from: /etc/ebox/99ebox.conf
override_user_modification
param and can this or something like this helps?

Greetings 2 eBox team and thank 4 Ur great job and ideas.

Unfortunately I still have some Qs not mentioned anywhere and forum search ("one nic", "one interf" etc) give me nothing useful too.

How can I use maximum of eBox functionality on a box with only one phys iface? I mean gateway func and using of L7 filtering that's more important for me and some other useful things.

Currently I've using a half-custom setup of CentOS 5. In this env I've set 1) a net infastructure (dhcp/dns), 2) a samba fileserv, 3) a simple mailserv w/popfetcher and 4) a simple mgetty-based fax2localmail reciever. And now I wanna promote this system into something more useful and integrated -- add some webmail and/or simple groupware (the main goals is delegation and common folders) and filtering proxy and trafic shaping and some else but with no ids/utm and other "half-corporate" features.

The main problem is a server that has only one phys iface and only one net wire. Also a wan access done via dumb adsl "gateway" wired into ethernet switch like any workstation. In a current setup I use an aliased ifaces -- CentOS has eth0 and eth0:1 and everything works fine -- all lan clients use eth0:1 as default gw, xternal reqs filtered over fw and in case of http and sent out via eth0 to adsl gw.

How can I make something like this on eBox?

I've added an if alias but the only place where I can c my aliaced iface is portforward, dhcp addressgroups and somewhere else. I can't use nor L7 filter nor shaping nor many other things. Is there any way to "fool" eBox to use one phys nic as two?
