Installation and Upgrades / Ebox 1.5 installer Cd
« on: July 26, 2010, 05:05:00 pm »
Hello,
Afther installing eBox 1.5 from the brand new installer CD there are a few problems:
- In terminal mode there are some linux commands missing.
- The editor " nano " is missing.
- it is not possible to install some extra software ( webmin, gparted etc, "apt-get install softwarename" starts but give errors ).
- Afther booting the new server, it is not possble to execute the commands " poweroff or reboot " it gives always an error.
- I like to install the new eBox version, with additional software ( mini KDE desktop, phpmyadmin , firefox, webmin and gparted ), but these programs may not be started at boot time it must be manual by the command startx so how can i prevent that the eBox desktop startup at boot time.
- The reason why i use the extra software is for extra controle , easy to copy data from server to external harddisk etc.
Thanks and best regards,
Ian

Installation and Upgrades / Configuration backup bug
« on: April 26, 2010, 03:34:56 pm »
Hello,
There is a bug in the configuration backup.
1) Make a configuration backup on an eBox 1.2 file and printserver.
2) Restore the configuration backup file on a new server installed from scratch, the users shares groups network etc is restored, the disk limit quota of the users, and the access control lists of the shares are not restored
This problem was solved a few months back, by adapting the file " Backup.pm " . Now the wrong Backup.pm file is stored on the ebox repository servers.
Please have a look on this bug.
Thanks and best regards,
Ian

Installation and Upgrades / Configuration restore error
« on: April 12, 2010, 10:04:41 am »
Hello,
I have installed ebox 1.4 on a brand new server.
Restore the data from a 1.2 server to the new one it was ok
Restore the configuration from the 1.2 server to the new server, it has an error " Prefilter" missing.
This result that the ebox-printer module not start if we reboot the 1.4 server ( data users goups etc is ok )
We execute the following commands:
apt-get remove --purge ebox-printers
apt-get install ebox-printers
Reboot the new 1.4 server, the printer module is ok now and start.
There is still a problem, de definitions of the printers are not restored from the 1.2 server to the 1.4 server.
So we lost the printers in the new 1.4 server.
How can this be solved ?
Thanks,
Ian

« on: February 11, 2010, 06:17:11 pm »
Hello,
Whey have upgraded our production platform from 1.2 to 1.4
1) Made a backup of the data, made a backup of the configuration.
2) Install a brand new server from scratch on an new computer, Ubuntu server 8.04.4 adapted sources.list and installed the needed eBox modules from the repository ( whey work with a PDC file and prinserver ).
3 ) Afther installation, the new server start up with no errors.
4) Activated the needed modules in the eBox managing interface.
5 ) Restored the data on the new server, restored the configuration on the new server.
So far so good, evrything seams to be ok ( users, groups, shares acces contol list etc. ).
6 ) Reboot the new server, the module ebox printers fails to start.
7 ) In eBox managing module dashboard try to restart the service printers, an error message appear " PreFilter " missing in " Printers.pm " the pinter service could not be started.
How can this be solved ?
An other question, is it possible to automate backups defined in the ebox managing backup option stored on a NAS serve in the network ?
Thanks,
Ian

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox V1.2 upgrade
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:39:19 pm »
Hello,
On the eBox dashboard menu > Software management > System updates, ther are many upgrades ready for installation.
When i select all the upgdrades and execute it, ther there is always an error mesage ( Debian stuff ) and the upgrade is not installed.
Is this mayby because there are several upgrades proposed, but not all the modules are activated on my eBox server?
How can i solve this ?
In command mode maybe, in an terminal window with the commands sudo apt-get update or sudo apt-get upgrade ?
The management of the server is always executed from the firefox browser of a workstation in he network, i think that could not caude the problem.
Thans for reactions, included the log file

Installation and Upgrades / upgrade release 1.0 to 1.2
« on: July 28, 2009, 09:04:53 pm »
Hello,
We have an eBox server release 1.0 in production and like to upgrade to release 1.2
What is the best way to do it ?
The eBox server is a PDC file and printserver, and has also the DNS and apache functionality.
The PDC is the domain controller for 40 Windows Xp workstations.
When we upgrade to 1.2 we like to keep the configuration in tact ( users accounts, user passwords, groupes, shares, printer shares, Xpworkstation accounts and of course the data ).
At this moment we take regulairy a configuration backup with the eBox backup tool, and for the data backup we use Webmin.
The server has Ubuntu 8.04, eBox, Webmin Lxde gnome terminal and firefox on board.
Is there a discription for upgrading the server ?
On the earlier version of eBox , it was possible to upgrade by adapting the sources.list file and execute the command apt-get dist-upgrade, but this does not works on version 1.2 .
Thanks,
Ian

Installation and Upgrades / Printer shring

Hello,
I have a problem sharing printers in eBox.
- On the eBox server there are 2 printers configured , a Brother HL1440 laser printer and a pdf printer ( cups-pdf ).
- From the webbrowser http://localhost:631 i can manage both printers and print some test pages, this is also posible from the webbrowser of an Xp client workstation on my network.
- Both printers now configured in eBox as samba printers, the users have access to the printers.
- On an Windows Xp client ( member of the domain, and logged on with a valid user who has access to the printers ), i try to add the shared printers. In the menu of adding a network printer both shared printers are showed, but when i click add then there is an error who says : cannot connect to the printque and the shared printer is not added on the client.
- Is this a nowing issue or is there a solution for it ?
Thanks

Hello,
I have an eBox server with several windows xp client computers, it works fine.
The problem now, when i build a new eBox server from scratch and i restore my backup taken from the old server, every thing is restored exept the windows client computer accounts it means that the windows xp clients could not connect to the eBox domain controller anymore.
How could this be solved ? Where are the client computer accounts stored on the server ?
I could work it out by putting every windows xp client workstation back in the domain again, but it is not a nice solution.
Is there a solution for this problem ?
Thanks
