all computers in darker green areas are teachers computers. Most of those pc are 5-10 years old and mostly cheaper home windows editions (xp and win 7) teachers are kind of dumb with computers and they can destroy frontpanel to plugin their pendrives in classrooms other than theirs. so i think that maped network drive in every computer in school under the same leter is the only idiot-proof solution. I would like to avoid things that they do not known because it is much more footwork for me if something "is not working" as they think.
I was thinking about external harddrive plug in root network but it was too expensive solution for my school
the problem is that windows 2000 server was using 2 internal network adapters and was able to root internet to domain  users from one of those adapters.
Zentyal server is more restricted and it roots internet from external adapter (i understand that only from external adapters) and samba is working only on internal networks.
I want to acces samba on external network adapter (for the Zentyal server) whitch is actualy my root network for the other computers

I'm kind of bad in explaining things, sorry. Especialy in english.
i have one big network that connects everything in school (orange). it is made by somone else and i have no resources to change it. in this network are workstations, one in every classroom. Those are teacher computers, not in domain (some of them can't be even if i want htem to be) and connected to internet via root network and router.
there are also 3 computer science classrooms and those are connected to their domain controllers (2 to zentyal and one to sbs2003)
i want to make teacher share disk for every teacher computer in school in order to reduce pendrive use and important file lose that those people are capable of.
Zentyal or any other computer with share capability could do taht but my server work 24/7 so i chosen it. The problem is that i do not known if i can share internet from internal network to another internal network using zentyal
it was done by previous win2000 server whitch died last year
i added atachemnt with all of it
orange root network, green signed computers and light green zentyal network byt it may make les sense than anything

ok i have read through zentyal documentation about installing vpn service but one thing is still a little blurry to me.
with creating a bundle installer for windows and its external ip adress.
what adress should i use in situation when all vpn clients would be on the same level network as external network adapter of the server
example
internet ip 78.89.x.x(modem)>>(router firewall internal ip 192.168.x.x)>>{[(zentyal external ip 192.168.x.x, internal ip 192.168.v.v)>>(server clients ip 192.168.v.v)] (vpn clients  ip 192.168.x.x) (other subnetwork routers ip 192.168.x.x)}
vpn clients are only in orange root internal network of the school and they need to all acces one share as a exchange drive, this drive should be visable also from zentyal internal network.

Kind of stupid problem
In samba configuration  by Zentyal is  what i read something like "automatic generated samba.conf on every change or startup" so manualy enabling external access to samba shares is out of the question. the problem is in my school there are many teachers  computers, which are not connected under my internal network. They are in higher level school network alongside the server "external" adress, but the problem is i would like to alow them to access specyfic share whatever they are in their classrooms or in computer room, staff room or wathever place in school by autorized user account.
i was thinking about taking down "external wan" tag from my eth0 or adding another card under the same network. but that could be problematic .
is there any legitimate way of giving access to samba from external network in zentyal 3.0?

(edited cause // should have been \\ ...sigh)
It wasn't a problem because i'm not that dumb :]
ok tested it out and it kind of work but not quite.
What work?
Profiles from vista migrating to redirected folders with no issues
They log in normally after that and with green icons of offline files
so on vista end everything is ok
on the xp end i can access to profile shares desktop via file share
user rights for files and shares
What does not work
xp users do not synchronize with redirected shares and their desktops do not redirect at all
even while they can access their files (and only their) via network path (\\servername\redirected\profilename\ sharename desktop or whatever)
so it is a step forward but a little bit is still missing :) What could have i miss?
is it possible xp users might have to use different gpo version for their redirections?

edit
scrap that i simply forget to check windoes 2000/ xp compatybility mode :] now it works fine, onlu unloged yet profiles report errors with synchronization until they actualy loged in after the change
So many thanks for your help

ok i find option called "folder redirection" under user settings. The thing is now that rsat is complaining about it cannot be undone or something, so i kind of chicken out. Besides i don't known what patch should i use, because i have 3 different shares for each user. Zentyal home directory, mounted as I: drive, user folder and user.v2 which i would like to use as base to copy over to new directory
It simple won't accept I: as a path

Some kind of newbie help with screenshots ?? i known i am lame admin, because i am basically network builder and hardware fixerupper

hi there.
I have just another problem with Zentyal community 3.0
simple little thing but i can't figure it out
in samba domain windows xp profiles are stored in home\samba\profiles\profilename\ but for the same profile in vista is created another folder with separate desktop and documants under home\samba\profiles\profilename.v2\
How to make desktop and other stuff default for both windows types? i mean i want to login from xp and vista on the same profile accessing the same directories.

problem has been identified and solved.
After recommended updates core version left unchanged and was probably incompatible with updated software. updating core (from 30.0.25 to 30.0.28 if i remember corectly) manually by update upgrade had fixed everything.

hi. The problem is simple. I installed zentyal community version in my school (work for me) last month and it was working ok. (for 6 weeks)  File sharing, roaming profiles, printers, internet routing and some other stuff. there was created 300 profiles (500mb quota) for 24 vista machines and two of them were equipt in admin packs for domain and gpo administration. And it was working just fine until i logout yesterday, and today i can,t add new machines, can't mennage domain "rpc server not responding" and profiles has stop synchronizating. I can't find anything wrong with the server from the dashboard, samba is working and enabling/distabling roaming profiles does not produce any errors.
server is up to date with updates "The system components are up to date." but it still show "6 updates avalable" in dashboard.
i would be happy with any help.

Installation and Upgrades / roaming profiles crashes samba every time

Hi there. I'm new at Zentyal, pretty slow in understanding linux based systems, but not as bad as it sounds.

The thing is, i was trying to figure out how to setup zentyal as a shool sbs replacement server for a few days now. And i was able to setup it pretty much as i wanted it, but one thing was bugging me. And it is roaming profiles checkbox and save button. For what i understand , i should click on first run all app's i would like to use. That is pretty much half of it:
File sharing & domain services , Printer sharing , DHCP server, dns server, web server, ftp server, firewall, http proxy and some more packets.
So i put in cd, go trough setup strugling with partitioning manualy (it does not work otherway) login to web browser mennagment , install all app,s and fill in all forms that pop up along the way. (ethernet and domain configuration) , and then my server kind of worked, all but those roaming profiles (whitch i assumed were as defauld enabled). When i figured out they wer not, i clik them and save. i got error while samba configuration. When i stop samba services and then aply roaming profiles it kind of work until i reenable samba services. And when i unchek them and save it is all green and ok (but they are disabled of course)

server is a pentium dual core machine with 500gb sata hard drive 2gb of ram and 2 network adapters (pci eth0 100mbit nic for internet and external network and integrated gigabyte ethernet nic as eth1 for domain use) i was using 3,2 beta zential because 3.0 stable was shouting about outdated packets and i did not know how to bypaswelcome screen and update them before installation.

If you need any logfile or something to help, you need to put it streight and simple what and where to look for it, because i was windows server admin for too long and i cant say that i known what linux is and how to move atound :]

So is there any instalation order for those app's to be able to enable roaming profiles?
