Hi wookie2k,

yes, eBox it's written on perl, you can see the source here (0).

you should be able to install Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server PowerPC (1) just make a plain installation, after that add eBox PPA to your sources.list (2).

then you should be able to install ebox modules, do it one by one so you can see what happening with each one:

apt-get install ebox-network
apt-get install ebox-firewall
apt-get install ebox-usersandgroups
apt-get install ebox-ntp
etc ...

ebox-network will probably fail because of iptables patched with l7filter not being built for ppc, ebox-samba will probably fail because of samba-vscan not being build neither.

try that and come back with the results, we'll try to help :-)

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Ebox and FreeRadius
« on: November 09, 2009, 10:54:10 pm »
it just needs a bit more of testing and build freeradius with openssl.
if you are able to build packages by yourself grab the freeradius tarball from their website and build it, and the ebox-radius module from http://trac.ebox-platform.com/browser/trunk/client/radius.

otherwise you'll have to wait a couple of weeks for the official release.

ebox as it's written in perl is architecture independant but some dependencies they are like esoftool for ebox-software and also the backports we have for some modules like ebox-jabber or ebox-asterisk. which modules do you want to install on your ebox ppc ?

for virtualized voip servers have a look at http://www.saghul.net/blog/2009/05/05/running-asterisk-in-virtualized-environments/.

with ebox 1.3 onwards, you are able to install minimal ebox with ldap on master mode and your host and ebox asterisk and ebox mail in different virtual machines.

ebox has its own asterisk module, ebox-asterisk. if you still prefer using freepbx just don't install ebox-asterisk and ebox won't change your asterisk configuration.

Go under Certificate Authority -> Service Certificates and you will be able to configure certificates for the services you have enabled.

Installation and Upgrades / Where do you run eBox on ?
« on: October 15, 2009, 03:36:38 pm »
Some of you often ask us which hardware is the best choice for running eBox, and we usually say if it runs Ubuntu Linux, then whatever fullfills your needs.

We would like to listen from you, which hardware did you choose for your scenario ?

For example, on eBox HQ we have a HP Proliant DL120 as firewall and router, vpn server, file and printer sharing.

Edited:
It's also interesting if you can share with us how many users you have behind your eBox.

Thanks!

hola manolito,

el módulo ebox-ca ya implementa esta funcionalidad en la versión 1.2, lo encontrarás bajo el submenú Services Certificates.

de todas maneras, muchas gracias por tu contribución.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Lost everything from group share
« on: September 11, 2009, 12:33:39 pm »
i don't know what exactly happened but i'm going to try to reproduce the issue you had (main backup developer is on holidays now). i'm sorry you lost such valuable data but first rule dealing with critical information is raid is not a backup. backup means data in a different system, better if it's miles away.

good luck with the rescue and i'm going to have a look on this.

login/username is the username you created in the Users menu entry.
SIP Domain/Realm is the VoIP Domain you configured in the VoIP menu entry.
You can leave Advanced configuration empty.

I hope that works ...

« on: August 28, 2009, 12:26:24 pm »
if you have your system installed on one partition, /dev/sda1 (make sure that's the system partition and not the swap partition):

% mkdir /mnt/ebox
% mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt/ebox
% rm -fr /mnt/ebox/*

do the convenient if you have /var or /home in different partitions, and continue the instructions on the wiki ...

if you post your cat /proc/partitions and fdisk -l output i could give you more accurate instructions.
