I have had simular problems when I tried to install Zentyal 3.4 beta from a usbstick. For some reason my internal system ssd was /dev/sdb and grub defaults to /dev/sda!
At install I had to change the install position, but I forgot how, because when I install from CD all goes fine.

Paul,

Installation and Upgrades / Re: domain account userid missing?
« on: March 03, 2014, 04:42:54 pm »
I compared the properties of both users and found that nubro01 had a delegation tab within his aduc properties. Next I checked for both users the attribute editor tab and cleared for nubro01 the extentionName and removed all entries within servicePrincipalName (a lot of entries), next I applied the changes and went over to my zentyal users and computers and ........ YES, nubro01 was replicated.
Since nubro01 was the main account for anything I did on this domain for the last couple of years, it must have been added to some stuff that the ZENTYAL replication did not like.
I just wonder where the ..... could I have found this error, in which log should I have found something, that would point me in the right direction? My geuss is, the entries within servicePrincipalName caused the problem, since most entries in there pointed to machines already gone for years.

Installation and Upgrades / solved: domain account userid missing?
« on: March 02, 2014, 01:38:26 pm »
Hi, I have an Asus P6TWS with 24 gig of memory, 2xsas 147 GIG RAID1 and 6 x 1TB Sata RAID5, running Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-v.
After using it for 4 years it's time to replaced it, also because it is using 200 watt 24x7.
I now have a Zotac ID42 which only uses 38 watt, including a WD 3TB USB3 disk.
I worked for 21 years for ca.com, so my userid naming is still from that time.
Naming convention was/is first three characters from lastname, 2 characters from first name and a two position sequence number. So my userid is nubro01.
I started with Installing Zentyal 3.3 and used of course nubro01 as system account for the first install.
After I successfully joined my PDC with Zentyal 3.3, I noticed that all my users where present, except nubro01!
Ok, a reinstall and I used nubro00 as system account, that made no difference, still nubro01 was not  replicated.
Then I made the beginners mistake to create nubro01 on the zentyal 3.3 server, resulting in a new nubro01 being created within the whole domain and with a NEW SID, of course!!!
Before I found that out, all my userprofiles where recreated with the new SID on all machines that I logged in to.
Restoring the virtual disk of my PDC and removing all windows registery profile referenes for the new SID, seemed to be the only solution that worked to repair everything to the starting position.

I now tried Zentyal 3.4 feb25 build and I am still stuck with the same problem.
Any account that I create on my pdc is replicated to my zentyal bdc, any change to any userid is replicated, except that  nubro01 account, it will not replicate, despited the fact that I changed/removed it from all OU's that might conflict. nubro01 is exactly the same, member wise, as for instance bakce01, which is replicated and also a member of domain admin and users.

I hope this sound familiar to someone and that you can give me a hint on resolving this, with the correct shell commands to investigate and resolv and so that I keep my original SID and without a reinstall. ;-)

Regards

Ron

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zentyal 3.4 wrong domain name
« on: February 28, 2014, 07:40:46 pm »
I found  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2545140  and suddently realised that with Zentyal 3.3 I had the same problem. But when joining my domaian I used my own account and when finally finished, within Zentyal I did not see my own account, because my Zentyal install account was the same id.
I added my account manually through Zentyal 3.3 and the result was that my id on my domain was overwritten and my original account got a new SID. meaning a different user profile on every windows machine I logged on to with my domain. I was unable to fix my SID, so I restored my virtual machine from last month and that restored undid the fix, mentioned within the above issue.

After I reapplied, I was able to join my own domain and all seems to be fine now!

Except from the network interfaces during initial setup and not correctly configuring my networks devices everything seems fine.
When 3.4 came up at final install and asked me to configure my network, I was only able to change eth0. eth1 and wlan0 only had the choices, not configure or static, no DHCP!!! That is why I changed \etc\network\interfaces manually!

Issue closed

Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zentyal 3.4 wrong domain name

I downloaded 3.4 02/27 build and was glad to see it was only 689 MB, so this time no problems creating a CD. With the previous version I had to force 708 MB to be written!
In general, I found that both Ubuntu and of cource also Zentyal 3.3 and 3.4 behave differently when I create a bootable USB stick from the same image!
If somebody could explain why when installing from USB drive, my device detections is completely different, like SDA is my 3TB mybook and sdc is my intended boot drive the SSD.
Then that would be nice, but for now, I keep using a CD.
When the install starts from CD, I again got no mount options for any of my disks!!!! So no noatime during install.
This time during initial install I saw something strange. When I install Zentyal 3.3 or Ubuntu 12.04 standalone, my nics where eth0 and eth1. With Ubuntu 13.10 standalone my nic became p1p1 and p4p1. With this latest daily build, I found that at initial install p1p1 and p4p1 came up as nic devices, the previous build had eth0 and eth1, I picked p1p1, although that is the nic with the highest mac address, so I expected it to be p4p1. After the initial install and reboot, I found that while the packages where still being installed, I saw with a terminal window, that p1p1 interfaces was defined within /etc/network/interfaces and also the loopback, no p4p1 or eth0 or wlan0.
This time I corrected and added the interface quickly in eth0 as static (intranet) and  eth1 as dhcp for my provider and I manually did a sudo ifup eth1 and eth0, despited that the initial install detected P1p1. The network came up and when the packages where installed and all was done, my user and computerl ldap setting where correct, so no providers domain name, but the correct name.
Since everything seemed to go splendid, I decided to join my own local domain, but when saving changes the following error showed.

Some modules reported error when saving changes . More information on the logs in /var/log/zentyal/

Switching back to domain controller and save changes gave error;

Again with Version 3.3, I had none of these problems and all went fine the very first time.
The Ubuntu 13.10 change from eth0, eth1 to p1p1, p4p1, don't make things any easier for Zentyal 3.4, but what can I do now, to join my own domain and fix this Install?
I can go back to 3.3, but.... please advice.

I also hope my explinations were clear and help to improve the 3.4 install for the future.

The uninstall and reinstall, did not do the trick. for some reason Zentyal 3.4 takes the domain name from my external port, in my case ETH1, while eth0 is unchecked as external, so one would expect that quering that nic would give a different result. I'll try a complete reinstall from 3.4 feb 25 build.

Well, I used modules and unchecked users and computers, hoping that would do the trick, but when I enable it again, then I am back to where I was and again I see the wrong domain, with just the name and nothing in there but the standard ou's and this machine name.

At core/system/general, i found the wrong domain name arnhem.chello.nl, I changed it to the correct domain name, saved the changes and disabled every module having anything to do with file sharing and domain.
After a reboot my dns entry had the correct domain, but under office. users and Computers, Manage, I still see information pointing to arnhem,chello.nl.
I could do a reinstall and check the system/general setting before continuing, but I rather fix this. Any hints on how to rebuld or delete my current ldap?
Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal 3.4 wrong domain name
« on: February 24, 2014, 01:27:36 pm »
Hi,
My original Zentyal 3.3 installed very well, but when testing my speed with http://speedtest.net I noticed that from my 150\10 Mbps speed I only got 90/10 Mbps. Long story short I decided to try 3.4.
I have a Zotac ID42 with 12 GIG of memory, 1 x Samsung SSD 240 gig and a WD 3TB mybook on USB3.
Install went fine, but when I try to add this new install to my existing windows 2008 R2 domain, I see that suddenly my zentyal domain is that of my eth1 connection, which is my provider! The name of the provider is ARNHEM.CHELLO.NL
My intranet is on eth0 and when I try to add this box as additional domain controller, it complains that is should be the same as ARNHEM. Any suggestions on how to fix this and how to correct the REALM? 3.3 had no problems with this. What conf file can I manually change?

By the way, 3.4 doesn't come up with the mount options, so I was unable to add noatime, for the ssd at install time and I had to do it manually later on.

Regards

Ron
