Installation and Upgrades / Transparent Cache Storage Location
« on: December 10, 2014, 10:17:24 pm »
I have multiple drives in my Zentyal Machine, however the Primary Disk gets a fair amount of load, so I would like to relocate the Transparent Cache storage location to another drive, how can this be accomplished?

Thanks!

Hello, I am having an issue.

I have my Zentyal configured in a unique way. I use it as a Wireless AP as well as to provide services to my LAN.

The server has an External Connection (192.168.0.5) to my Router (192.168.0.1), where it receives internet.
It then has an Internal Connection (10.0.0.1) that I run hostapd on to provide a Wireless AP, and to Network my house.

The issue I am having is:

I have a PC connected via LAN to my Router, and I need to access a Wireless device on the Internal Network. Specifically a printer.

How can I allow communication between the Internal Device (10.0.0.55) and my PC (192.168.0.7)?

Thank you.

Installation and Upgrades / Captive Portal Mobile Devices

I have setup a Captive Portal on my Zentyal Server, when on my Tablet and I connect to the network it signifies that there is a login page, when I attempt to login, it returns to the login page.

I assume due to the fact that the popup isn't opening that it is returning to the login..... any ideas?

Because the login page will cause ie & firefox alert regarding untrusted certified for the https connection
Of course they could choose to allow the connection, but for beginners this confuses them
Is there any way to solve this?

You could host the captive portal login on a public domain and purchase an SSL Certificate for it.

I really wish that L7 Development would be picked back up, I personally utilize Zentyal for it's Captive Portal coupled with the L7 Filter, it makes a wonderful Wireless Control System.

The VoIP was an amazing and necessary feature that should definitely not have been removed IMO! However, I would request that the packages at least be kept available via repo install (apt-get install zentyal-voip), etc.

I personally utilize Zentyal for local call centers and this was a blessing of a feature.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zentyal As A Network Gaming Server

We currently utilize a cloning system. Ten machines are identical, once a month we create a fresh image and clone all the drives and reinstall. Quite a PITA.

Worst case scenario we will can save ourselves a lot of headache and add redundancy. By using iSCSI we can Network Boot the machines from our Windows Server, and using a Golden Image allows us to have one copy of the base operating system and any modifications are then stored on a separate VHD greatly reducing sizing. We are hoping that if we utilize a Golden Image for the Games as well that any modification will be stored to the separate VHD as well. Then once a month we will update all games on the Golden Image, and clear the gaming VHD's and such can be done in an automated fashion with scripts. But we are not sure if we can utilize these "Golden Images" for the Game Disks as well, see this article that sparked our attention (http://blogs.technet.com/b/storageserver/archive/2011/05/04/diskless-servers-can-boot-and-run-from-the-microsoft-iscsi-software-target-using-a-regular-network-card.aspx).

A service you may want to look into is CCBoot. We are going to do a small test with it this week (www.ccboot.com).

We have already purchased Steam Cyber Cafe, however that still requires nearly 300GB of Gaming Files PER COMPUTER. We are going to attempt a Windows Server 2012 with iSCSI and PXE Boot, and utilize a Golden Image and build upon that. Then have a second Games VHD for all the computers to share, but we believe we will still run into issues with multiple users using the same files.

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal As A Network Gaming Server

We operate a Gaming Center in NY, and we currently utilize Zentyal for many of it's awesome services. Currently we have static machines, that are individually loaded with games and configuration. We would like to be able to store our games on the Zentyal machine and map the drive to the PCs to allow for a single copy of updated games, etc. This implementation failed as two clients couldn't access the game at the same time as the files were in use.

Does anyone have any suggestions for us to implement a FOG Style Server Setup, or a PXE, or .... ?

Thanks!
