Installation and Upgrades / NIC assignment changes after each reboot
« on: October 07, 2024, 08:46:34 pm »
Hello,

I'm running Zentyal 7.0 on an HP Microserver Gen7.

After a clean installation of 7.0, every time I reboot the server, the names of the NICs swap (i.e. Eth0 becomes Eth1, Eth1 becomes Eth2 and Eth2 becomes Eth0, but not always in that order).  The implication is that I need to rearrange the interface and gateways settings and set up DHCP from the beginning.

Is that an issue related to my hardware or to the Zentyal installation?

Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / Lost connectivity to router and the internet
« on: November 30, 2023, 09:12:06 pm »
Hello,
After a reboot of my Zentyal 7.0 installation I lost all connectivity to the routers and, therefore, the internet.

Has the same thing happened to anyone else?  I have tried everything I could think of, but I can't get my head around it.

Thank you!!!

Hello,

Suddenly, the Domain Controller and File Sharing   module has stopped and the "restart" icon is not present next to it.

Whenever I save settings, I get an error for Samba:

Some modules reported error when saving changes . More information on the logs in /var/log/zentyal/

The following modules failed while saving their changes, their state is unknown: samba

This is the error I get on the command line when I check the status:

I'm running Zentyal 7.0

Any idea what might be causing this?  Is it worth looking into it, or better just reinstall Zentyal?

Thank you for your time

Other modules / VPN suddenly stopped working - Zentyal 6.0
« on: September 03, 2022, 09:01:34 pm »
Hello,

It happened to me before, it happened again.  Out of the blue, without touching, editing or in any way changing anything, my VPN stopped working.  The client (any client) does not connect.  The message I get on the client side is "Sat Sep 03 21:34:14 2022 MANAGEMENT: >STATE:1662230054,WAIT,,,,,,"

Last time it happened was on Zentyal 5.0, spent a few weeks troubleshooting, in the end I just made a fresh 6.0 installation and everything worked fine.

Has anybody else had a similar issue, to guide me through it?

Thanks

Directory and Authentication / "Users and Computers" is a mess
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:18:19 pm »
Hi,
My "Users and Computers" screen at https://xxxxxxxxxxx:8443/Samba/Tree/Manage is a total mess.

The Domain Admins and Schema Admins groups are shown under "Users".  A user is shown under "Groups".  Another user is not shown anywhere, although he does exist (I can see this user in the dropdown menu when I am assigning users to groups).  How can I rectify this mess?

Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / connect local network to the internet
« on: April 11, 2014, 02:00:23 pm »
Hi everyone,
I have spent endless hours reading this forum and the internet and endless hours fiddling with the parameters but still no result, so I wonder if anyone has a definitive answer to my problem:

I am running Zentyal 3.3 in a computer with two NICs.  ETH0 (which is built in the motherboard) and ETH1 which is plugged in to a PCI slot.

Eth0 is connected to a DSL Router and is therefore my connection to the internet.  The details are as follows:
- DSL Router IP 192.168.2.1  255.255.255.0
- Eth0 IP 192.168.2.2 255.255.255.0 (static)
NB. the server is connect via cable to LAN1 of the router for which DHCP has been disabled and the Server's IP address has been excluded from the router's DHCP range.

With the above settings the server has access to the internet.

Eth1 IP 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 and is connected to the local network.

I have tried many possible combinations for the DHCP, Gateway DNS etc. settings, but the result is still the same.  1) The local clients cannot access the internet, 2) they cannot ping the router and 3) with most setting combinations they cannot even ping Eth0 (although they can ping each other and Eth1).  Also, the router cannot ping Eth1 or any of the local hosts.  I have not tried using Zentyal as a DSL modem and I really do not wish to do so if I can avoid it.

So, if anyone is using or has used a similar setup (DSL router <--> NIC1 <--> Zentyal <--> NIC2 <--> LAN) can you tell me which set of parameters worked for you?  I would have thought this is the most common scenario for a small network, isn't it?  Or should I try some other layout?

Many thanks

Hi everyone,

First, let me apologise in advance if my question is too silly or simple.  I have very little knowledge of Linux, hence the simplicity and triviallity of my query.

While installing Zentyal 3.3, I get a screen where it asks me about disk partitions:

Guided - Reuse partition LVM VG xxxxxx, LV root
Guided - Use entire disk
Guided - Use entire partition, LVM VG xxxxx, LV root
Guided - Use entire disk and setup LVM
Guided - use entire disk and setup encrypted LVM
Manual

What should I do? (NB I had previously tried to install Zentyal on this machine so some data and some partitioning is already present on the disk).

I have two disks on the computer.  An old 80GB one (where I want the OS to be installed) and a newer SATA III 1TB (which I want to use exclusively to store files for shared usage).  Can I do that with Linux?
