HuH? Using Samba & PAM (FTP is also enabled) and working fine.

Maybe this is why I cannot browse through the server though, have to use direct //SERVER/SHARE. I was wondering why browsing stopped working, could very well be the issue.

I do have PDC enabled (because I've been wanting to try it) but we are still using our Windows Server for PDC, Zentyal is just doing some FTP for outside clients and then I've created shares to those /home/client* directory with the specified permissions to those shares for the internal workers that need to use those shares.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Samba shares over VPN
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:30:22 pm »
I don't get it though. If the computer is on the LAN, why would it need to VPN?

If you want to use the same machine locally and remote (ie. laptop that you take home) you would have to disconnect from the VPN when at work and reconnect when at home.

Or am I missing something?

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox 1.3 - Error when enabling eGroupware
« on: January 06, 2010, 09:33:53 pm »
I have Ebox 1.3 setup through the PPA on Jaunty. Currently users/groups, samba (as PDC), firewall, web server, jabber, logs, events, user corner, networking, mail & software manager are all enabled. When I go to turn on eGroupware in 'Modules' I receive the following error:

It does not get enabled and I can tell its an error with connecting to the database, but I'm not sure exactly where to start :).

When I witness errors like this (like I also am receiving one using asterisks but in a different situation) should I continue to post them here or skip directly to the trac? (I searched but did not find a similar bug posted.)

Thanks,

Carlos

Thanks, I'm willing to help anyway possible for a product that has helped me sooo much!

I did e-mail them though and look forward to contributing some other future tutorials or documentation.

PS. I'd be glad to wikify and keep it updated in the actual wiki as well so you don't have to link offsite if you'd prefer.

Mammut -- sorry I haven't been on the forums for a while. Are you still having issues sycing using syncevolution?

Also, to whoever is responsible for the wiki, there was a link to my site that had the tutorial for sycing using syncevolution but it has moved... http://carlos.limardo.biz ... sorry about that I moved it not realizing there were links leading to it previously.

Thanks, any questions I'll try and keep checking back here or e-mail me at carlos.limardo@gmail.com

Installation and Upgrades / Re: trac svn module?

I have Trac setup on a separate server than my eBox server but it does authenticate against my eBox's LDAP. Trac was easy to setup, I basically just followed these instructions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTracHowto (after looking at it though it looks a little more confusing and messier than I remember it, might write up a full how-to later.)

After you have trac setup though here is your apache configuration for authenticating against your LDAP.

Code: [Select]
<Location /trac/>
        SetHandler mod_python
        PythonInterpreter main_interpreter
        PythonHandler trac.web.modpython_frontend
        PythonOption TracEnv /home/trac/project/
        PythonOption TracUriRoot /trac/

        AuthType Basic
        AuthBasicProvider ldap
        AuthName "Ebox Login"
        AuthLDAPUrl "ldap://YOUREBOXSERVER:389/ou=Users,dc=ebox?uid?sub?(objectClass=*)"
        Require valid-user
</Location>

All permissions, etc will still need to be handled through trac which should be easy through tracs admin interface.

Create another 'Permissions Group' for eGroupware called 'admin' (or whatever you want) and for that profile make sure that the 'Admin' application is available. Then go into your users, and change whatever user you want to have the access to use the 'admin' permissions group.

Save changes, and you should be able to go ahead and do this. Try not to mess with any of the actual admin setting in the admin section - I messed up my synchronization some how and was never able to get it back without doing a clean re-install.

Are these instruction still the same for ebox 1.2?  If not has anyone got funambol working with 1.2?  If so can someone post a guide.  Thank you

i've had it working both with syncevolution and funambol for thunderbird (few known issues with thunderbird, where it duplicates your contact - on ubuntu not sure about windows). i could never get either one of them to work with the funambol sync app on my g1 though. :(

syncevolution works the best for me though, flawless.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: eBox Client for Ubuntu desktops

Actually removing pidgin and adding Empathy which is what I use might be even better. It saves the roster to the jabber server (for some reason pidgin didn't do this for me) also it includes voice and video over jabber. Just a thought but yea you sound like you've been thinking about this as much or even more than I have, lol. Get's me very excited as I think eBox is a GREAT replacement for a handful of MS Server products and Ubuntu Desktop a great platform to replace MS Desktop. This makes management so much easier.

eBox user corner, what language is this written in? As I'm a PHP programmer which is why I haven't been able to get too dirty into eBox itself and mostly just play with configuring different services to use eBox LDAP. But I wanted to start something like this also using the CakePHP framework (which I already have it auth against LDAP and able to change some of the LDAP settings) and eventually replacing some of eGroupware functionality in it making it the entire >user< front-end for eBox. I'll go take a look at what's there :).

Alot of ideas, little bit of time :).

I've actually been thinking of this also. I have a tutorial here http://forum.ebox-platform.com/index.php?topic=1119.msg4418#msg4418 on how to sync eGroupware with Evolution, works great so far with address book, calendars, tasks & decent with notes (could be better).

It uses sync-evolution and Genesis (GUI for sync-evolution). You can even have it just sync in the background with no GUI applet to make the sync from Evolution to eGroupware seamless. The only other missing piece I'm working on now is the LDAP authentication for GDM and mounting the samba share as the home directory. Making this into a simple .deb install where you configure a few things in the beginning like server IP and admin LDAP username/password would allow it to be made in to a killer Ubuntu distribution to complement eBox server.

If you guys need any help with the syncing configuration I've had some decent experience with it lately, I'd like to help, or testing, whatever.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Ebox email server setup
« on: April 08, 2009, 05:11:53 pm »

I didn't document my tinkering, but I recall that I had to enable mail service, create a virtualdomain, create a user, give that user an email address (username plus select a virtual domain from drop-down list). When I first tried to login to egroupware, I received an LDAP connection error, but I rebooted the server, and was then able to access egroupware, use the felalimail client to send a test message. The email arrived at my yahoo account (apparently they don't do reverse lookup) but I received a rejection notice from my work email server, with the message that "message rejected, sending domain does not exist". Hence my posting here.

Hi,

Thank you so much for your immediate answer.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how can I login to egroupware and use felalimail client to send a test message? I was browsing the net but can't find information leading to answer.

Would you mind guiding me on how to do it? Please?

I will greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks so much!

James

Just go to http://yourserver/egroupware - as long as eGroupWare is enabled in eBox this should work. You'll see the web based mail client in there so you can send/receive e-mail, etc.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: catchall for virtual domains
« on: April 08, 2009, 05:06:01 pm »
Yea like above, it would probably be better for you to just create tim@domain1.com (or a few close variations) as an alias than having a catch-all.

I was interested in a catch all sub-domain though, that's what I thought this was about :).
