Installation and Upgrades / Interface creation
« on: November 14, 2011, 03:19:19 pm »
Hello Community,

I am in the process of creating a webserver which will sit inside a DMZ zone behind my main zentyal installation.  The webserver is actually another instance of Zentyal running with only the webserver module enable + plus a few other non zentyal addons.   Also this second instance of zentyal is a VM running in virtualbox located on the host system.  The webserver is bridged to one of the VLans I created.  The host server and VM server function properly with traffic being routed correctly.

The host network setup is as follows:  External interface connected to my ISP provided router (Dynamic DHCP connection)
Internal interface is setup with 802.1Q Vlan;  One of the Vlans is designated for my DMZ and has a subnet of 100.100.100.0

On the host zentyal web GUI I can see the all the physical interfaces and Vlan interfaces.  The traffic meter graphs show up and show traffic flow for all the Vlan except the one for the DMZ.

I am assuming this is because I only have virtual servers running on the DMZ and even though they are bridged to a physical interface Vlan..... no traffic actually is transmitted through it.

What would I have to do in order for my Virtual Server traffic to show up on one of the web GUI graphs ???  Can I create a virtual interface (one that is not tied to any physical interface) and bridge the VM to it??
If my description is not clear... let me know I will try to explain farther

Thank you !!!!

I have zentyal 2.2 installed (with all current updates).

I have the file sharing module installed and created a domain with shares and roaming profiles.

I have added all of my workstation computers to the domain.

I can login in on my main desktop and the system registers the login. (loads profile settings... desktop background...mapped network drives).  When I log off the system seems to synchronize.
Now when I try to log in using a different workstation.... it seems to log on, but the desktop background does not transfer... the screen just stays black (the mapped network drives do show up).  On zentyal 2.0 the desktop background followed me as I changed computers, but on 2.2 it does not. Also on 2.0 the system used to lock the screen after maybe 5 minutes of inactivity, but now this does not happen. Even on the server itself (mine is not headless) the zentyal server desktop never locks the screen even after being idle for hours)

What is the proper behavior of roaming profiles.... what information should follow you?? How do I know the system is synchronizing properly and loading the correct information???

Installation and Upgrades / High-Load Diagnosis help-- zentyal 2.2
« on: November 03, 2011, 01:22:50 pm »
Yesterday during the day I had a strange event happen.

My system shut down randomly..... I found out about it when I received an email from the zentyal cloud service telling me my system disconnected.

The only thing I can tell is that all of a sudden the system load went really high compared to normal operation and that all of my processor cores went from being mostly idle to full load.  I am assuming the temperature kept rising until eventually a thermal limit was hit and the system shutdown.

Here is some system information:
AMD hexacore 3.2 ghz - on a MSI 890X motherboard - factory cooler
16 gig DDR3-1600 ram
2X 500 gig SATA drives in raid1 - primary OS drives
7X 2TB SATA drives in software raid 6 - file storage

This has been my setup for zentyal 2.0 (running for about a year) and now zentyal 2.2 running for about the last month.

I have three virtual servers running on the zentyal host using virtualbox 4.1
One is another zentyal server (with just webserver module), One FreeNas 8.0 and One FreeNas 7.

I normally see system loads of about 1 to 1.5 (sometimes rarely I see 2.0).  The CPU's are typically operating between 85% and 90% idle.  Small amount of users so the system idles most of the time.

Yesterday the system load jumped up to 8 and all the cores went to 100%....... system shut down about 15 minutes later

How would I diagnosis what happened??? Which log would I look at to see what the system was doing right before shutdown??  Also I think the shutdown was caused by thermal failsafe, but I am not sure.... how can I tell what triggered the exact system shutdown????

Thank you for reading this and any direction you can provide on how to start looking at what possibly caused this issue.  I have never had this happen... Zentyal for the most part has been running smoothly as far as performance goes.

Thank you !!!

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal DHCP questions or discussion
« on: October 27, 2011, 03:52:14 pm »
Hello,

I would like to bring up a topic based on behavior I have noticed on my home system.

Basic facts:
Zentyal 2.2 with all modules enabled (except jabber, webmail, virtual machine manager, and VOIP)

I have several VLAN's setup for different zones (wifi, guest, home, DMZ)

I have captive portal setup running on my guest Vlan
On that vlan I have a Wifi AP setup with no security.
The captive portal is setup to only allow a group called guests (I have created several user accounts under that group)
Anyone can connect to the AP, but you will get redirected to the captive portal.  Without a guest username and password you won't be able to go anywhere.

Recently I have noticed that someone keeps connecting to the AP...... however this is where my problem issue happens.

The only reason I know someone has connected is because the zentyal dashboard showed a DHCP lease 192.168.13.103 + a mac address.  I also get email notifications when a DHCP lease is issued on that VLAN.
The dashboard has been showing this person connected for about a day now.
However when I look at the AP itself it shows no users connected. (if I connect with my phone or laptop it shows up on the AP so I know the AP is working)

Through zentyal if I try to ping, traceroute, or lookup host name..... it comes back with nothing for IP 192.168.13.103.

If I however do a nslookup from my main workstation computer on another VLAN it comes back with DHCP-192-168-13-103.wifi.guest..... this would indicate that some one is connected on that spacific IP.

Who ever this is it does not appear as if they can access anything.  The amount of traffic flow is very minimal and from my own testing it does not look like clients on that VLAN can see or do anything with out authenticating through captive portal

What can I do further to diagnose if anyone is actually connected to my guest VLAN?  Is there anyway to release a client (I think there should be a button next to DHCP lease for releasing clients)?????

Thank you for the help !!!  Plus in general this might be a good discussion for proper hotspot captive portal setup and other HDCP related information.

Hello I am at the final steps of my zentyal 2.2 install.

I created a Domain in the file sharing section.  I names my server and clicked the roaming profile tag.  I set the roaming pofile to be under letter Z (not used in my system).

My windows 7 computers can join the domain no problem, but when I log on my home folder does not appear under letter Z.  If I go to file explorer under network I see my server and inside of it I do see my home folder, but it is not automatically mapped to the letter of my choosing.

I have looked at the logon.bat in the /home/samba folder and I can see where it says to put the home folder under lettter z..... however this does not happen.

Before last night all of systems used Zentyal 2.0 and I had not issues with roaming profiles and home folder mapping.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be happening or what I should look at???  The zentyal log does not appear to be showing anything of importance.

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal mail system + dashboard widgets
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:01:41 pm »
Hello I have zentyal 2.2 running

I noticed that the dashboard widget utility does not show the POP3 or IMAP as being enabled when I am using zarafa.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue so the dashboard widget does show that those services are running, but under the grouware instead of the standard mail module?

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal 2.2.3 FTP - issue
« on: October 24, 2011, 04:45:23 pm »
Hello,

I have been trying to setup the FTP module and have the following problem.

The FTP works properly if I disable ssl - support in the zentyal gui.

However if I enable either allow ssl or force ssl I can not make a connection to the ftp server.

I have been trying to use either filezilla or firfox fireftp.  However neither one seems to connect.

If I do    ftps://________:________@xxxx.zentyal.me  it tries to connect, but than always fails
in filezilla I have tried ftps, ftpes and both port 20 and 21, but it just keeps timing out and not connecting.

Has anyone tried using ftp with ssl?

Installation and Upgrades / mail gateway + separate mail server
« on: October 20, 2011, 10:35:34 pm »
I have been reading through the forms, but I am still not exactly sure whether zentyal out of the box can accomplish what I am looking for.

I have one zentyal server running as my gateway, DHC, DNS, Proxy + a few other modules.

I have a second zentyal server which I want to run as my mail server and groupware + probably a full web server.

I know one way to make the mail server work is to just simply port forward all the proper ports from the firewall to my internal zentyal server.

However is there a more correct way to do it.  Lets say have the gateway server actually filter the email for spam and virus as it moves through the gateway to the mail server.
Can zentyal do this?  What would I have to do in order to set this up?  I don't want any emails stored on the gateway server.... just on the mail server.
Would I install just the filter module on the gateway or would I also install the mail module as well???

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal 2.2 Virtualization
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:19:19 pm »
In the virtualiztion module there is a box to check if you want the VM to start automatically.

Does anyone know how this is setup??  The reason is that I have created a couple virtual machines using the Virtualbox GUI itself and would like to make them auto start.

Does anyone know how I would go about doing this??  Online it talks about creating a script, but perhaps the Zentyal virtualiztion module already adds a script like that.

Any help would be great.... even just a suggestion on what to i should look for... thank you !!!

Installation and Upgrades / LDAP Binding master/slave not working
« on: October 18, 2011, 02:28:48 pm »
Hello,

I am trying to setup a master and slave server.  My master is running the 2.2-1 zentyal server + all updates.

I have nothing installed on it but users and groups module..... currently no users or groups created.

My slave is running 2.2 zentyal with only the users and groups module.

I have opened the LDAP port on both the master and slave and have made sure the slave can reach the master and the master the slave.

I have copied the password from the master in the slave and set the correct IP address.

However when I try to finish the setup it fails.   In the log it says that it failed to BIND to the LDAP server.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong or if this is an error with zentyal.....
I also see that in the firewall rules there is a rule for ADsync... does this have to be enabled???  I would think this would be for windows active directory only???

Thank you !!!

Installation and Upgrades / 2.2 virtualization
« on: October 15, 2011, 09:04:13 pm »
Is it possible to add  a zentyal created VM to the virtualbox gui on the zentyal desktop.

I know that the virtualbox images created by zentyal are stored under /var/lib/zentyal/ virtualbox vm   ,but when I try to import that image into virtual box it fails.... says access denied.

I am assuming it is because the permissions are not set correctly, but how would I change this ..... or am I doing something wrong all together???

Installation and Upgrades / zentyal 2.2 virtualization
« on: October 14, 2011, 08:33:47 pm »
Does anyone know how to completely purge the zentyal virtualization module from the system.

Simply removing it through the zentyal GUI does not get rid of it completely.  I need to completely purge it from the system so I can reinstall it from scratch.

Thank you !!!

Installation and Upgrades / How to delete a group
« on: October 14, 2011, 04:23:08 pm »
I installed user and groups module and created a group Administrators.  However do to some issues I had to reinstall the users and group module and the file sharing module.

Now when I try to create the Administrators group I get a message saying that the group already exists.

How do I go about deleting the group so I can create a new one.  I can't seem to find where this group is created.

Thank you !!!

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal 2.2 Master/Slave setup - issue
« on: October 13, 2011, 02:48:48 pm »
I have created a Master LDAP server with the only module installed being "users and Groups"  I added one user to the LDAP server and created an Administrators Group (with that user being in the group).

I than created a slave with the only module installed being "users and groups"  connected it to the master.  Everything seemed to be working fine.

I than installed all other modules I wanted on the slave server.  One of the modules being the file sharing module.  Everything seemed to be working correctly.   On the slave under the /home folder there was a directory created for the user.

However I tried creating new users and now have the following problems.
The users I create on the Master do appear on the slave, but no folders are being created for them under the /home directory.  I can't join authenticate the users when a client PC tries to log into the domain.  Also if I try to edit the user I get the following error:  (see attachment).

Another thing I found out is that I can log in with the original user I created, SAMBA does not map the users home folder.

Installation and Upgrades / Virt not starting virtual server
« on: October 13, 2011, 03:39:13 am »
I have installed the virtualization module, but than had to delete it.  Now when I tried reinstalling the module I can not longer the virtual machines to start.

I get a massage "Couldn't start virtual machine"

In the zentyal longs I get the following:
