Just to let you all know, I downloaded the update Zentyal with a Zentyal specific update.  I am trying to remember - it was like Zentyal system or something like that.. but it fixed my DE to start at boot / reboot.

-I still think their should be a check box in the Zentyal GUI to allow you to turn on DE at bootup or turn it off at bootup?  Maybe put it under General Configuration.  I think that would be nice for those who don't have time to be code monkeys and just want the options on this wonderful SBS.

I am not sure about use being the only two having problems with roaming profiles.  I found these other posts having some problem with roaming profiles (may not be the same - but they are or were having a problem with it)

I was having the same problem during initial configuration and found that switching my Ethernet interface to "External" seemed to fix it.

So with my setup I am doing a gateway.  eth0 and eth1  (WAN and LAN).  I have my WAN network interface already setup for "External", Your saying I should the set the other LAN network interface for "External" as well?  This should take away the problem????  I pretty sure the way I have it is the way it is suppose to be.

Thanks

Hey Guys!

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!   I have done all the recent updates and fixed most of my issues that I have come across.  I am now finding that when I reboot the server that the UCFS module (Users, Computers and File Sharing module) stops when I reboot the server.  I don't understand why and can't figure out a fix.

Here is what I get when I turn module off, before I try to restart it.  Hope this helps:

Code: [Select]
Some modules reported error when saving changes . More information on the logs in /var/log/zentyal/

After following the "How to make a good post" and doing and update on my Zentyal with -

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

I lost the capability of Zentyal desktop coming up.  In other words when I turn the server on it only goes to command prompt.  I believe Zentyal uses LXDE,  I am unsure of the location to configure startx or the DE to start on boot.  Can someone point me in the correct direction to getting my desktop to at startup?

may be their should be a check box in the Zentyal GUI to allow you to turn on DE at bootup or turn it off at bootup?  Maybe put it under General Configuration.  I think that would be nice for those who don't have time to be code monkeys and just want the options on this wonderful SBS.

Thanks in advance.

my 3.5 beta or dialy to the latest stable it should be i got alot of issues with samba after a reinstallation of Users, Computers and File Sharing it works again but not one thing i enabled roaming profiles and using the drive letter H: before i found a mount point on my user that had logged in but that mountpoint i cant find now. Any ideas? Everything else works.

Like you RobinDaun, I am seeing the same issues with samba module (Users, Computers and File Sharing), I am also seeing an issue with roaming profiles and user drive h:  not working after a reinstall of the samba module.  I also have shares not working even though users have permissions or are apart of a group for that share (yet they are apart of other groups and those shares for those groups work fine).  Not sure yet what the solution is at this point, but I just noticed the devs put out a update of the samba module (Users, Computers and File Sharing) - so I am hoping that fixes the issue now.

If anyone has seen this issues before and know the fixes for it - Please help
Thanks,

Even though I am still having some issues with user permissions and error free connection to appropriate shares and user drives, I did take andre.pool advice and reinstall the samba module (Users, Computers and File Sharing).  In turn this this had other issues, such as loss of users, computers, printers and so on. (luckily the location doesn't have many groups, users, computers, and shares.)

*note that this also will kick the printers - and yes that means you have to resetup those as well.

I highly suggest that dev's make a way to back up - computers, groups, shares, users, domain controller, and printers configuration so if you do have to reinstall samba module (Users, Computers and File Sharing) you can restore them and you don't have the pain of having to setup everyone and everything from scratch again like I had too..  I can only imagine if I had 25 - 1000 users and had to setup all computers, groups, users, shares and printers from scratch - OUCH!!! (*of course this is the community version and I am supposing that the pro and the other versions make this a non-issue)

All in all, I am still pleased with Zentyal and how it works, I just need to find stability with connecting to shares when users have permissions and are apart of a group.

Thanks Jbahillo for the reply.  So the fix this time was to leave the domain and add them back to the domain again on the client side.  This fixed the problem of not seeing the computer on the User and Computer module side of Zentyal.

My thoughts are when I had the problem with the samba side and I uninstalled the samba module then reinstalled it through Zentyal, I never removed the computers from the domain from the client side.  So the Zentyal still had left overs in the config files of the old computers, but since I reinstall the samba module in Zentyal, it had left of residual from the original joining of those computers to the domain. At least this is what I believe happened.

Hope this helps someone else!

I reinstalled Samba, had to put all users and groups back in.. and printers and stuff.  Unfortunatly when I try to add computer to the domain I cannot see it as a computer under Users and Computers module.

Organizational Unit ZJDT1-PC already exists.
Organizational Unit ZJDT2-PC already exists.
Organizational Unit ZJDT3-PC already exists.
Organizational Unit ZJDT4-PC already exists.

How can I get the ZJDT?-PC off my computer list - even when they are invisible..

Is the a samba config file for computers that I can delete them from manually?  and rejoin them ???

Any help will be appreciated...

Thanks,

I am planning on using Zentyal as a new alternative to Windows servers for small business.  I currently setup a Zentyal 3.5 community server for a location just a test to see if it will fit the small business enviroment like I presume it can.  I have been timid to role this out until now.  It looked like alot of the bugs have been fixed from it's earlier conception.  So far Zentyal seems to be a strong package, but I have run in to a couple of items items that for production and small business can be show stoppers for a client wanting to run Zentyal as a standalone solution.

So what is the issue I have come across - Zentyal handling saving configuration of samba/ACL's

So what I am doing is setting up a share called: Installation

Setting up ACL:   Apply ACLs recursively / Group: Accounting    Permissions: Read and write

When I got through the process to save configuration I get the following information in a pop-up window:

Quote
Some modules reported error when saving changes . More information on the logs in /var/log/zentyal/

The following modules failed while saving their changes, their state is unknown: samba The following modules failed while saving their changes, their state is unknown: samba at The following modules failed while saving their changes, their state is unknown: samba at /usr/share/perl5/EBox/GlobalImpl.pm line 735 EBox::GlobalImpl::saveAllModules('EBox::GlobalImpl=HASH(0x387cba8)', 'progress', 'EBox::ProgressIndicator=HASH(0x1b3eff0)') called at /usr/share/perl5/EBox/Global.pm line 95 EBox::Global::AUTOLOAD('EBox::Global=HASH(0x387c590)', 'progress', 'EBox::ProgressIndicator=HASH(0x1b3eff0)') called at /usr/share/zentyal/global-action line 32 eval {...} at /usr/share/zentyal/global-action line 30

When I take a look at /var/log/zentyal/zentyal.log  I get the following:

I have already search the forums  and  I have noted 7 unaswered questions about the samba side.  Two other questions that the admin/users figured out from them selves (but didn't seem to pertain to my issue).  I hope this will not be hard to answer as to why it is happening.

I have even done the following:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

But only thing I got out of that is now Zentyal desktop doesn't come up automatically like it did (I get to this after my samba/ACL problems are gone).

Any help on this is massively appreciated.

Thanks for your help in advanced,

Jeff Davis

Is it better to Port Forward the website to public on Zentyal server or is it better to create a Packet Filter to allow people to get to your website on the Zantyal server?

What is your take on it?

Thanks,
