Email and Groupware / Vacation auto reply problem

Hi,
I have configured vacation for auto reply and everything works fine between internal users. But when external user sends mail he doesn't get the vacation auto reply. The error message in the mail.log is "said: 503 5.5.1 Error: need MAIL command, from field is blank (in reply to RCPT TO command))". For relay we use sendinblue.com. Anyone has an idea what might be causing this?
