Portuguese / Re: Instalar Zentyal no XenServer 5.6

Stay tunned...

:: EDIT ::

News and Announcements / Re: Usage of eBox Platform
« on: August 24, 2009, 06:02:46 pm »
I used eBox mainly to replace AD small office infrastructures. So far, it has been great! I do not use it at home because I am trying to figure out for myself how to create an eBox-like setup, so I am doing it all by hand. Thank you to Warp and all the team that made this wonderfull framework what it is today, it really is some sort of swiss-knife of IT!

David, a happy eBox customer since 0.8 :)

From the server itself, try to connect (don't do fto localhost, try instead ftp SERVER_FQDN). I've never used the Firewall module, but if this one uses ubuntu's ufw (Uncomplicated FireWall), you can try " sudo ufw allow ftp"

Why bother with that!? Just use the free SSH Client PuTTY, it's far easier than search for and install a web based java ssh front end...

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Torrent client running on ebox server

I will have to install mysql to get this working. I think apache and php is already running on the ebox server.

Anything I should be aware of doing this?

Thomas

I think mySQL woun't interfere... PHP is a multi application framework, so I supose that here you won't have problems too... If this client runs on https (443), then you'll have problems with eBox (there is a way to change the eBox port, somewhere in the forum). Better test this out or ask Javi or some other admin before deploy this in your production server!!!

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Thunderbird + LDAP Adress book
« on: September 19, 2008, 12:53:23 pm »
I've been doing something like that. I've created a new OrganizationUnit in the ldap named abook (ou=abook,dc=ebox) and started adding objects to it (the "inetOrgPerson" type). First thing I had to do was relate each field of the thunderbird address book to it's corresponding ldap object type... Here's the list, made be me (you'll have to translate the thunderbird field names, since they are in portuguese)

inetOrgPerson

givenName = primeiro nome
sn = ultimo nome
cn = mostrar
ou = departamento

mail = correio electronico

telephoneNumber = telefone trabalho
homePhone = telefone casa
mobile = telefone movel

title = titulo profissional
departmentNumber = Nome de departamento
o = Organização
street = morada
l = cidade
st = Estado/Província
postal = codigo postal

description = notas

then, set up thunderbird to look for addresses in you ldap :D

Installation and Upgrades / Re: printer sharing

PS: I think it would be better if this access was enabled by default, or if there could be a group only for access the printers...

Agreed the defaults should allow that

thanks ;) Is there any config that the sys admin can change to make this behaviour default, while you guys change this for the next releases?

try torrentflux. It's not command line, is web based :) which I think it's better!

Installation and Upgrades / Re: How to mount home to the Ebox server
« on: September 19, 2008, 12:44:43 pm »
They are stand alone clients. Not in a domain...

As I understand Ebox does not support NFS? With NFS what is the best solution to do a transparent mounting of the home folder to the server?

Best regards,
Thomas

eBox doesn't support NFS, you'll have to do things by hand... I've fired myself before we have made the NFS storage in my last employer, so I have no clue of the whole process :( Sorry about that, but I know that NFS is a more straight forward solution and very transparent (I think the clients woun't even notice that they're working across the network).

PS: Gnome supports FTP mounting on a per user basis, you could try that... I've writen a tut of how to make ProFTP authenticate with eBox, make use of it

http://forum.eboxplatform.com/index.php?topic=441.0

PS2: Regarding your last post, I don't think that eBox will ever going to adopt NFS, since that is an *nix protocol and eBox was made to, sort of replace, Windows Domain Controlers in medium/small networks/businesses

Thank you for your reply, but we are running Ebox with Ubuntu Clients.

Best regards,
Thomas

But are the clients validating in the eBox's domain or are they stand alone clients? NFS is a much more native linux solution, SMB could work but it would be a tratment, not a cure  :-\

Some script in the netlogon folder (never done this with eBox, only with true Active Directory), I think, or, a script in the startup folder of the user to mount it's share.

PS: With my machines, when a user logs in, it's home folder appears in "my computer", without me having to do a thing :\

The domain's SID will change anyway, and you're going to have to re-associate all the machines to the domain (unless they are Win98,NT workstations), so don't get too bored about the password thing, 'cas that will be your minor problem...  :-[

I'm sure we are getting into unexplored waters here, but technically, you can change the SID of a SAMBA domain to replace an existing domain.

True, but there will need to be an account for every machine that joins the domain. That way, changing the domain's SID won't help because you'll have to re-associate the machine to the domain, so that it's account get created (in LDAP, under the ou "Computers")
