I'm testing the 1.1.20 alpha 3 and iḿ getting a kernel panic when i chose the ebox installer, not the semi-automatic mode.... With this mode everything works ok!

ic3000, do you get the kernel panic just after selecting the installation mode ? or further in the installation ?

Installation and Upgrades / eBox backup and restore how-to
« on: May 27, 2009, 03:24:21 pm »
hi ebox fans,

i've created two documents on how to backup and restore an ebox system. they are intended to be part of a bigger one on how to deploy and maintain and ebox host which is not finished yet:

http://trac.ebox-platform.com/wiki/Document/Documentation/ThePerfectEboxSetup/Backup

http://trac.ebox-platform.com/wiki/Document/Documentation/ThePerfectEboxSetup/BackupRestore

there is also a thrid one on how to resize ebox partitions (when using LVM):

http://trac.ebox-platform.com/wiki/Document/Documentation/ThePerfectEboxSetup/LivePartitionResize

i'd like you to review then and get some feedback: suggestions, testing or even contribute back changes or improvements.

yes, as you do the same with the rest of ebox conf files (/var/lib/ebox/*). and remember, the most critial step on backup system is **restore**.

use slapcat -l /path/to/your/backup.ldif and slapadd -l /path/to/your/backup.ldif to restore. it is recommended to stop slapd when doing the backups, but if you are not making any writing op during the backup should be fine.

yeah, KVM is the way to go, have a look to http://howtoforge.com/virtualization-with-kvm-on-ubuntu-9.04 if you don't have experience with KVM. You can use latest version of ubuntu in the host machine but virtual machines for ebox should run hardy if you want a stable environment.

amd64 es el nombre de la arquitectura para los sistemas de 64 bits:

bencer@thinkpad ~ % grep name /proc/cpuinfo
model name      : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     L7500  @ 1.60GHz
model name      : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     L7500  @ 1.60GHz
bencer@thinkpad ~ % uname -r
2.6.29-1-amd64
bencer@thinkpad ~ % dpkg --print-architecture
amd64

no, ebox funciona de la misma manera en i386 o en amd64, en caso contrario sería un bug y se solucionaría. de hecho varios desarrolladoras usamos amd64 para el desarrollo.

Have a look at http://wiki.dovecot.org/UserDatabase/ExtraFields. This is currently the best way to implement mail quotas in eBox.
