Hi, I have done a fresh install of 4.2 and applied all updates.
When I try to connect to webmail on https://localhost/webmail I get the following error:

"An error occurred during a connection to localhost. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) "

As far as I recall it was working before I applied the updates.

Anyone else having this problem any any suggestions for a solution?
I have tried different browsers.

It seems that ssl is not properly set up for port 443.  It is working fine on 8443.
nmap shows port 443 open.


Installation and Upgrades / Apt-check using 100% cpu

I am running Zentyal as a virtual machine on a fairly low spec. box
Running top, I notice that apt-check hogs a huge amount of cpu and seems to be running almost permanently.
I am not sure what calls it as I have disabled auto check for updates in the GUI.
It seems to be a cause of a very slow web interface.

Can I disable apt-check and if so how and will it cause any problems if it is disabled?
I know it is a link to a Python script.  Could I just chmod it to non executable?


I have just done a fresh reinstall of 4.2 Development Edition
I called my server "mail" and accepted all other defaults  i.e
domain zentyal-domain.lan etc

After the install I created a virtual email domain called ( using my actual registered domain name)
Created cert for that domain
Added some uses with emails at the domain.
Added  and   to DNS
Ticked all boxes in openchange for both zentyal-domain.lan and
Downloaded Certs for both domains and added to windows 7 .  They are both listed in the Trusted Root Certification Authority.
Windows 7 uses the Zentyal Server to resolve dns

When I try to set up an Outlook connection I get the error "An encrypted connection to you server is not available.

Where am I going wrong??

What exactly should I type into outloook when tring to set up the mail?
All the docs use "zentyal-domain.lan for the email address.  I am trying to use a real email address  i.e user @
Any logs I can look in to see what is happening.
Several previous similar installs using 4.0 worked.
Is 4.2 broken?


Email and Groupware / IMAP Connection

I have a working Zentyal server with outlook clients connecting and web mail working.
I am trying to connect a Mac using imap. The connection is failing to authenticate.
(I have tried various combinations of windows and linux mail clients and all combinations of authentication to no avail)

When I run the following command on the server:

* OKopenssl s_client -connect
It lists the certs etc. and at the end gives this


So it seems the imap server is running OK.
When I run

0 login myname mypassword
I get   "0 NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Authentication failed."

As an aside, Caldav and Carddav also fail to connect.

Any suggestions?


Installation and Upgrades / Outlook not connecting

I have Zentyal 4.1 with openchange installed.  Connections to the server from a browser using https work internally and externally. Webmail is fine. I have firewall deactivated for test purposes.
When I try and connect Outlook internally as described in the WiKi I get the following error:

The name cannot be resolved.  The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

The connecting client machine is using Zentyal for dns and can ping the server by name and ip.
Openchange in the web admin page has all the green boxes ticked.
For server name in outlook I have used both ip and server name.
For log on name I use  zentyal-domain\myname

Where am I going wrong?

I have Zentyal 4.1 set up with openchange.  Internal lan computers can connect Outlook to the Zentyal server and mail in and out is OK.  Webmail log in  from external computers also works fine.  Activesync from Android and Iphone also works.

I am having problems getting Outlook Anywhere to connect.  The error is:

"There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate.
The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site
Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 10)"

I think this has arisen because when setting up OpenChange I used  "" as the virtual mail domain where as it should have been "" . 
"" and "" are on two different  servers with two separate external ip addresses.  The Zentyal server is on the "".  This is what I put into outlook when setting up the remote connections.  Outlook connects to the server but the cert has "" instead of "" hence the error.
In attempting to get over this, I have set up a second virtual domain on Zentyal called ""  However the cert still seems to be only referring to "".  I also tried an alias in the virtual domain but to no avail.

Do I need to re-setup OpenChange and if so I presume I will loose all my data?
How do I tell OpenChange to use a different virtual mail domain?

Any suggestions as to how I might solve this?


I am running a fresh install of ZEntyal 3.4.  I can connect to roundcube but can only see mail.  The address book gives error : 
Error No. [100]

The last lines in the error log in /var/log/roundcube   show

Any suggestions as to what causes ths problem?

I have a new clean install of Zentyal 3.4 I have openchange, mail and both webmail (Roundcube) and openchange (SoGo) webmail installed.  Everyting except Roundcube is working perfectly.  Roundcube gives the error "connection to storage failed" , under the login window.   The error log shows:

 "IMAP Error: Login failed for john from LOGIN: Plaintext authentication not allowed without SSL/TLS, but your client did it anyway. If anyone was listening, the password was exposed. in /usr/share/roundcube/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_imap.php on line 184 (POST /webmail/?_task=login&_action=login" 

There are also numerous PHP errors saying failure to load plugins related to contacts and calenders and also:

PHP Error: Failed to load plugin file /var/lib/roundcube/plugins/zentyal_oc_login/zentyal_oc_login.php in /usr/share/roundcube/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_plugin_api.php on line 223 (POST /webmail/?_task=login&_action=login)

I have checked that   innodb=on    In /etc/mysql/conf.d/zentyal.cnf
Also I have deleted the roundcube SQL database and re installed the roundcube module.

Any ideas as to how to fix the problem?

Installation and Upgrades / OpenVpn ip numbers

I have linux only clients connecting to a linux server all using openvpn. I am using addresses for the clients. I am trying to allocate fixed ip numbers to each client.
Does each connection need 2 ips i.e. and and and
....... etc
i.e I can connect a max of approx 126 clients ?

Or is one IP sufficient for each client?

When I look at my server-ipp.txt file it says that .2 and .3 are allocated to the first connection and that .4 is allocated to the second connection.


Installation and Upgrades / [SOLVED] Add new user to admin group

After a fresh install of 3.0 I want to add a new user and give that user the same rights as the user created during the install.  However, there are no groups visible in the users and groups Groups page.  I assume there is an admin group that the primary user created during the install is a member of?   If so, how do I find it and add a user to it?  If not how do I do it?

I need to use Dnsmasq on a Zentyal 3 server.  However it seems that Zentyal needs Bind running for Users and Groups to work.  What is the best way of resolving this?
Can Zentyal be configured to use Dnsmasq instead of Bind?

Installation and Upgrades / Resolve VPN client hostnames

I have a number of VPN clients connecting to a Zentyal 3.0 server.  They appear in the Dashboard widget with their common name and ip addresses in the default  format.  The Server itself has a address. 
How can I set up the DNS on the server so that I can ping ssh etc., and connect to the Clients by name, from the server.  rather than by IP address.  The DNS server is up and running but it does not resolve the host names on the VPN.

Installation and Upgrades / Master and Slave Ldap

I am trying to set up 1.4 in master and slave mode.  I have the master on an old pc on the network.  It seem to be set up ok. Ldap is browsable and the one user set up is there. This was set up using the 1.4 iso.

As a slave I downloaded an image for virtualbox and I have this running.  However when I try to set it up in slave mode I cannot set up the ldap DN as the box is grayed and uneditable.  It contains various dc= settings but these are not the same as the master.  I presume they should be?
When I try to activate users and groups module I get an error that
"Failed to enable: Can't connect to master eBox at with the provided LDAP password"
I have the correct ip for the master and I have cut and pasted the password.
Any advise on how I could solve this problem would be appreciated.

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox setup Egroupware

I have installed Ubuntu Hardy and then ebox-all.  I have enabled all the modules I need and set up a user and group.  However when I go to log on to Egroupware I gate this error

Fatal Error: It appears that you have not created the database tables for eGroupWare

I have removed ebox-all and postgresql and reinstalled postgresql and ebox all but still get the same error?

Any Suggestions??
