Directory and Authentication / Samba can't open secrets.tdb

On a new installation, I am trying to configure the server as an additional domain controller.
Samba says:
(preamble ....)
realm is douglas.local
tdb(/var/lib/samba/private/secrets.tdb): tdb_open_ex: could not open file /var/lib/samba/private/secrets.tdb: No such file or directory
Could not open tdb: No such file or directory
ldb_wrap open of secrets.ldb
Could not find machine account in secrets database: Failed to fetch machine account password from secrets.ldb: Could not find entry to match filter: '(&(flatname=DOUGLAS)(objectclass=primaryDomain))' base: 'cn=Primary Domains': No such object: dsdb_search at ../source4/dsdb/common/util.c:4576 and failed to open /var/lib/samba/private/secrets.tdb: NT_STATUS_CANT_ACCESS_DOMAIN_INFO

I checked, and there is no .tdb file, so I created an empty one with touch, and the message is still the same.
Extra info - the existing domain controller is Windows SBS 2k3 with AD prepared for Windows 2008 R2 (I was going to use 2008 R2, until I found Zentyal).
Any suggestions, anyone? I am really reluctant to abandon, and continue with MS stuff.

Success!
key validation was not working. Installing the Development ISO and then registering the Commercial key has got over that problem.
There is now another problem when trying to configure the DC as an additional controller.

I am using another workstation to access the Zentyal forum, because Firefox on the server will not accept your forum security certificate.
There is no zentyal folder in /var/log.

I have just dowloaded the ISO for 5.1, as you recommended, and the installation has gone better, but I still get:
Unable to connect
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost:8443.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
when trying to run the Zentyal admin page.
What is wrong with the installer? I am installing on a virgin server - new disks, nothing clever. Surely it should work out of the box. As far as I can tell, Ubuntu is installed fine, it is just the Zentyal stuff that is causing the problem.
I think the Zentyal distro should be great, but it just won't install, or am I doing something totally wrong?
