Title: Zentyal Desktop 0.4 for Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 published
Post by: J. A. Calvo on November 14, 2010, 09:31:15 pm
Hi Zentyal users,

A new revision of Zentyal Desktop is available. It adds roaming profiles support for Ubuntu 10.10 like the previous 0.3 version added for 10.04.

It also allows to authenticate with Zentyal servers in slave mode. Until now, it only worked with standalone or master servers. A fix in the software configuration is also included.

Note that this is still alpha software, we would be glad if you could help testing it and giving us some feedback.

Here you can find all the information about installation and configuration:

how about adding some form of catched credentials?
so that one can login even if the connection to the server temporarily broke down?
(because you're not in your home network or on the road or whatever)

Yes, we already have in mind the "cached credentials" feature, we plan to provide the same functionality you have in a Windows network. But there is no date set for these improvements yet. After publishing the roadmap for Zentyal Server 2.2, we will publish also the Zentyal Desktop roadmap.

Thanks for your feedback!

Cached passwords is the last big missing feature for me. Everything else has really come along very well! :D

Thanks for suggestion, we'll take it into account for next versions.

I've found a handful of bugs now I've been using it a while. Is there somewhere to report these?

you could always post them here, and file a bug report ;)

I can post them here, it's just that then I've no way of knowing if they've already been reported.

The standard bug tracker doesn't seem to allow reports for zentyal-desktop, so I thought maybe there was another tracker somewhere for alpha components...?

If not, I can start posting them here though :)

I've added a new "desktop" component in trac.zentyal.org, so the tickets could be created there.

Hi,

I have just installed the version 0.4-1+maverick (ubuntu 10.10) but it doesn't authenticate with slave servers as J.A. Calvo says in the first post. If i answer YES to the question " Is your server a slave of another master Zentyal ? " I always get this error:

ldap_sasl_bind(SIMPLE): Can't contact LDAP server (-1)

I don't know if this is a problem of the zentyal-desktop package or the master and slave configuration because the authentication with the slave fails if I bind to a normal user.

For example, logged in the master I can do a ldapsearch as follows:

ldapsearch -h localhost -b "ou=Users,dc=mydomain,dc=com" -D "cn=ebox,dc=mydomain,dc=com" -w PBZJvOkfAIj58N1E "objectclass=*"

and get the same result if I do as a normal user as follows:

ldapsearch -h localhost -b "ou=Users,dc=mydomain,dc=com" -D "uid=user,ou=Users,dc=mydomain,dc=com" -w secret "objectclass=*"

But if I do the same thing in the slave I get results as the "ebox" user but this is what I get as user:

ldapsearch -h localhost -b "ou=Users,dc=mydomain,dc=com" -D "uid=user,ou=Users,dc=mydomain,dc=com" -w secret "objectclass=*"

ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)

I have tried to configure the client manually after debconf fails with:

zentyal-setup-client [IP_of_my_slave_ldap_server]

This makes a good /etc/ldap.conf but the ldap user cannot login , this is what I get in the logs:

gdm-session-worker[2080]: pam_ldap: eror trying to bind as user "uid=user,ou=Users,dc=mydomain,dc=com"

Any idea?

Did you remember to unblock LDAP in zentyal's firewall settings?

Yes, actually my slave server has the firewall disabled. The master's is enabled and accepting connections.  I can connect to both servers using the "ebox" account , the slave is registered in the master and the updates in the master show up in the slave right away.

Thank you for zentyal-desktop, I've been trying it on lucid with success. Few questions:
- do you plan to add single sign on for samba shares (pam_mount) like windows in a domain?
- how to get all granted shares mounted on login?

Has anyone found a solution for Gnome keyrings sometimes not being unlocked at login? ...

I've reported a bug on Zentyal (ticket 2678 though it hasn't put it fully onto its database as it's not retrievable even as one of My Tickets). Hopefully, this might make zentyal-package work as per the documentation on
http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Document/Documentation/ZentyalDesktop/Ubuntu
i.e. the user (as defined to Zentyal) and their home directory is created by a script located at /usr/share/zentyal-desktop/zentyal-setup-user - implied by screen shot showing a keyed-in Username with Other..  showing on the Ubuntu Login window.
