« on: September 18, 2016, 06:43:41 pm »
This is great news, thanks a lot!

thanks, the images have showed up a year or so ago.
But I don't have any write/change privileges on my post and I'd like to make an update for tz-sync.
Can you please look into it?

Installation and Upgrades / IPSec / VPN Client setup help needed
« on: November 07, 2015, 01:29:47 am »
Hello everyone,

I'd like to set up a VPN connection between Zentyal and 2 locations, maybe mobile devices as well.
I am still stuck with Zentyal 2 (thats another story), and I am not sure what to fill in for the configuration.

My setup:
Zentyal as IPsec server: LAN IP 192.168.10.0/24 + WAN IP xx.xx.xx.xx

location 1: 192.168.78.0/24 network -> router can handle the IPsec protocol, it should connect as an IPsec client and allow every host behind the router to connect to the server and other clients from location 2. router has the IP 192.168.78.1

location 2: LAN IP 192.168.10.0/24 (IP range can be changed in case it interferes with the servers LAN-range) here only 1 client needs to connect to the VPN

So I go to VPN -> Server in the Zentyal web interface
leave everything untouched, the input field for "VPN address" is set to 192.168.160.0/24

go to VPN -> IPsec, click on the clients configuration
4 input fields:
Local IP Address -> what does that mean, esp. regarding the config above??
Local Subnet:    -> same here, but I suppose it should be 255.255.0.0 to interconnect 192.168.10.x and 192.168.78.x ?
Remote IP Address: -> same here, what does "remote" mean in this case?
Remote Subnet: -> same here, what does "remote" mean in this case?

Making this work on an iPhone/Android/WP device would be the cherry on the cake. (there is already a thread for this: https://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=13869.0)

I highly appriciate any help on this as location 1 is my parents place (connected over 3G, no direct access from outside possible) and location 2 is my own place. I'd like to have a webcam running to look after them when I am on the road.

Thanks a lot in advance!

I've been trying to get this working for months, but the break through was the fact that yesterday I found that OpenVPN have released about 2 weeks ago their own free iOS VPN application, OpenVPN Connect, that ties into the VPN API within iOS 5.0 and above.

After some research, I was able to get it working using a single file (importing the text from the other files within the client bundle into the .ovpn file).  While this isn't the most secure method (if anyone else got hold of it, they could connect to my VPN, and the certificates aren't held within iOS secure keychain), it is the easiest for deployment.  Once the iOS app is installed, the user just needs to open the email with the .ovpn file attached, click on it and import it into the OpenVPN application.

There are a few things to note, dev tap and tls-remote functions don't work with the iOS app for various reasons, so you will need to comment them out of the .opvn text file.  Also you have to use TUN style tunneling instead of TAP due to the iOS VPN API.

Hopefully this is enough information to help people to work out how to set it up, but I've also added a lot more details on a blog article I've published here;D

Hi there,

thanks for the howto - I just tried it myself, but the openVPN app on iPhone fails with the error
TUN Error: ton_prop_error: ifconfig addresses are not in the same subnet /30 subnet (topology net30)

the original ovpn file works without problems on Windows. Is this an error or the lack of support for some feature under iOS?

Thanks a lot in advance

up

@jsalamero or any other Zentyal Staff member: could anyone shed light on this please? Reading the forums quite a few people use my howto, so it would be nice have it working 100% again.

Installation and Upgrades / Wiki: where did the images go?
« on: September 09, 2014, 04:58:01 pm »
Hi Zentyal-Team,

I noticed some time ago that the wiki was redesigned and images are no longer shown (file list is empty). I have a HOWTO there (https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Zarafa_Setup_with_Outlook_Thunderbird_Sync) which is obolote for the new Zentyal-versions since the switch to OpenChange - but I'd still love to have the complete article because there are lots of people out there using Zarafa+Zentyal, plus OpenChange has a far smaller feature-set than what Zarafa offers right now.

So anybody can help me with how to get the images back again?

thanks + cheers

Installation and Upgrades / Mozilla Sync server on Zentyal?
« on: February 04, 2014, 09:54:56 pm »
Hello,

has anyone tried to install the Mozilla Sync server? With that, you are able to store your bookmarks and passwords (if you want to...) on a server and sync it with all your Firefox installations (PC, Laptop, Smartphone, Tablet, etc)
http://docs.services.mozilla.com/howtos/run-sync.html

In times of full (NSA) surveillance, I'd rather keep my data on my server than on Mozilla's. Unfortunately, the build failed on my Zentyal installation the last time I tried. But I think this would be a very cool feature for the future to add....

Had anyone success on building it?

Thanks,
BBKing

Hi chymian,

I wasn't aware of the existence of sabre-zarafa until now! I wasn't able to get z-sync to work until yesterday (it deleted my whole addressbook on start, tough!!! good to have backups....) but now it works.

I was browsing the zarafa plugin page where I've found Levelbossmike and it worked nearly out-of-the box, except for the character-coding problem. It could be related to Thunderbird/SoGo as well, because my patch doesn't work with Thunderbird 10.1.

I'm going to investigate this, on the top of the howto I've already added a compatibility matrix.
I also mailed the Levelbossmike developers, their solution seems to be better to me at the moment (open source and free of charge, relies on the SoGo connector = more developers) than z-sync.

It would be interesiting to see, how many Zentyal/Zarafa users need a native Linux client? Responses are welcome!

Installation and Upgrades / Re: pptp on WAN port possible?
« on: March 18, 2012, 09:59:57 pm »
@ichat: no hurt feelings on my side, I just wanted to make the point, that pptp IS alive.. :)

The workaround with the cheap ADSL router is not an option in some cases, like when you want to have high availability and have a Zentyal box with dual power supply etc, the router is still the single point of failure. I know, there could be other factors as well, but eliminating the router is one part less that can stop you from working.

Just my 2 cents

Okay guys, the howto is updated. Don't expect too much as it is read-only and limited to the personal addresses, but maybe still useful for someone.
I might investigate Z-Sync further but I had no luck with it in the past (although I paid for that plugin....  :'( )

@jsalamero: AFAIK pptp is used where xDSL technology is not available. IMHO this is the case in every country in areas with lower resident numbers or in parts of bigger towns where the postal infrastructure is not "up-to-date". I'll talk to a friend of mine who is a provider himself to see how many lines use pptp.
I, for myself don't need pptp anymore.

guys, I succeded to make carddav work with Thunderbird (read-only), last weekend, give me some time to add it to the howto.
I had to hack the php file to get the right charset. I'll post it tomorrow hopefully.

Cheers

thank you, will do,
do you have pptp connection setup directly on your dir-100 router and "static mode" in zentyal?

yeah, I had 10.0.0.140 on the WAN port to the ADSL modem and 192.168.10.1 on the LAN port
just entered the user and the password for the pptp user and I chose to be online all the time (don't cap the connection when there is no traffic on it.)

In Zentyal I entered 192.168.10.2 on the WAN port and 192.168.20.x on the LAN side

Be careful ichat with generalizing, pptp is a very common connection form for ADSL-connections, even here in Austria.

@illki: I succeded to install the pptp client, I could establish the connection to the ADSL-modem, but then I had to give up: I was not willing to dig myself into managing the firewall and masquarading the internal traffic over the ppp0 interface to eth0.

There is also no way to tell Zentyal, that it should use ppp0 as a standard gateway.

@ Zentyal-staff: the setup was like this:
ADSL-Modem: 10.0.0.138
eth0: 10.0.0.140

I did a pptp 10.0.0.138 after adding username and password to the pap- and chap-secrets files. As mentioned above, this works, but I cannot masquarade the traffic from eth0 to ppp0
I hope I remember this correctly, this was a while ago.

Workaround: insert a cheap (~25 €) ADSL-router between Zentyal and the ADSL-modem
I have this one working: D-Link DIR-100
