Installation and Upgrades / IPSec / VPN Client setup help needed
« on: November 07, 2015, 01:29:47 am »
Hello everyone,

I'd like to set up a VPN connection between Zentyal and 2 locations, maybe mobile devices as well.
I am still stuck with Zentyal 2 (thats another story), and I am not sure what to fill in for the configuration.

My setup:
Zentyal as IPsec server: LAN IP 192.168.10.0/24 + WAN IP xx.xx.xx.xx

location 1: 192.168.78.0/24 network -> router can handle the IPsec protocol, it should connect as an IPsec client and allow every host behind the router to connect to the server and other clients from location 2. router has the IP 192.168.78.1

location 2: LAN IP 192.168.10.0/24 (IP range can be changed in case it interferes with the servers LAN-range) here only 1 client needs to connect to the VPN

So I go to VPN -> Server in the Zentyal web interface
leave everything untouched, the input field for "VPN address" is set to 192.168.160.0/24

go to VPN -> IPsec, click on the clients configuration
4 input fields:
Local IP Address -> what does that mean, esp. regarding the config above??
Local Subnet:    -> same here, but I suppose it should be 255.255.0.0 to interconnect 192.168.10.x and 192.168.78.x ?
Remote IP Address: -> same here, what does "remote" mean in this case?
Remote Subnet: -> same here, what does "remote" mean in this case?

Making this work on an iPhone/Android/WP device would be the cherry on the cake. (there is already a thread for this: https://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=13869.0)

I highly appriciate any help on this as location 1 is my parents place (connected over 3G, no direct access from outside possible) and location 2 is my own place. I'd like to have a webcam running to look after them when I am on the road.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Installation and Upgrades / Wiki: where did the images go?
« on: September 09, 2014, 04:58:01 pm »
Hi Zentyal-Team,

I noticed some time ago that the wiki was redesigned and images are no longer shown (file list is empty). I have a HOWTO there (https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Zarafa_Setup_with_Outlook_Thunderbird_Sync) which is obolote for the new Zentyal-versions since the switch to OpenChange - but I'd still love to have the complete article because there are lots of people out there using Zarafa+Zentyal, plus OpenChange has a far smaller feature-set than what Zarafa offers right now.

So anybody can help me with how to get the images back again?

thanks + cheers

Installation and Upgrades / Mozilla Sync server on Zentyal?
« on: February 04, 2014, 09:54:56 pm »
Hello,

has anyone tried to install the Mozilla Sync server? With that, you are able to store your bookmarks and passwords (if you want to...) on a server and sync it with all your Firefox installations (PC, Laptop, Smartphone, Tablet, etc)
http://docs.services.mozilla.com/howtos/run-sync.html

In times of full (NSA) surveillance, I'd rather keep my data on my server than on Mozilla's. Unfortunately, the build failed on my Zentyal installation the last time I tried. But I think this would be a very cool feature for the future to add....

Had anyone success on building it?

Thanks,
BBKing

Hi all,

some might not know my tutorial on the above mentioned topic:
http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Documentation/Community/HowTo/ZarafaSetupWithOutlookThunderbirdSync

I just added a part about installing official certificates for apache, admin-interface and imap. Now Thunderbird doesn't complain any more... :P

Any hints and reviews are welcome.

Hi there,

can anyone confirm / deny that the manual partitioning on the newest zetyal 64bit iso does not work? I always get a red warning "could not find root partition" and have a deadlock (when I push the "continue" button, I again get the red warning and have to quit installation)

Please, this would be urgent as I am at the beginning of a fresh install.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Installation and Upgrades / pptp on WAN port possible?
« on: October 31, 2011, 12:16:16 am »
Hi Guys,

I was hoping for 2.2 to have pptp support included. I installed it in a virtual machine, but to my biggest surprise there was only pptp support for VPN, but not for accessing the internet.
I have a 2.0 machine where I installed all the software for a pptp-adsl connection. I can connect to the internet on the zentyal machine, but the internet traffic doesn't get routed from ppp0 to the internal interface, since there is no config option for this.

Is it possible to somehow get this to work?

Thanks in advance

Installation and Upgrades / High disc load caused by mysql?
« on: September 19, 2011, 03:41:12 am »
Hi there,

now I can't listen to my two 1TB WD hdds (wd1003fbyx) anymore, they are just rattling all the time loudly (they run as software-raid1). Looking at iotop I continously have values between 400K/s and 960K/s, which is quite high for a server doing nearly nothing!

Searching the forums I found this post, but althrough I have Western Digital hdd's, the output of
Code: [Select]
hdparm -i /dev/sd?|grep EARSshows nothing, so I think the problem lies somewhere else.
The highest IO-load is caused by mysql, whenever I stop that service the IO-load drops to zero!!

Anybody has similar problems? Shall I assign more RAM to the mysql process?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Guys,

I'm working on a HowTo to save us a lot of time with the recurring questions here: http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Documentation/Community/Howto/ZarafaSetupWithOutlookThunderbirdSync

(screenshots and better descriptions to come, just wanted to document the things I still remember from last week...:) )

I'd need help with the IMAP/IMAPS access (asked a 1.000 times here, no definite answer found) from Thunderbird to Zarafa, AFAIU it should be possible. From Thunderbrid I always get a "Login to server <ip_here> failed." IMAP+IMAPS service are active on the Groupware page, Webmail is deactivated. What's wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Installation and Upgrades / Need help on network design/VPN
« on: April 15, 2011, 11:32:09 pm »
Hi there,

I am currently trying to deploy a zentyal solution on a small office with 9 users.
We have an xDSL connection with a 4 port router and behind it the zentyal server is supposed to provide VPN, SMB+domain controller services.

We want to keep the router as the gateway to the internet, because even if the zentyal server has a physical failure, working over the internet should be possible (there is a backup router with the same config available on the shelf as well).

Right now I have to interfaces (WAN,LAN) pointing to the same network (see picture below). According to the documentation this is neccesary, to be able to run VPN.
I created a VPN server and after port-forwarding port 1194 I can successfully connect to the internal network.
My problems:
1) Right now I can't open the zentyal-admin interface on https://192.168.10.1/ebox/ but this used to work the last time I checked (2 weeks ago). Right now it loads forever, I only get a white screen (Edit: http://192.168.10.1 gives me the standard Apache page "It works!").
2) I also have a problem, when trying to connect from the internal PCs to Zentyal, I always get a timeout (even ping does not work). But I can ping the PCs from Zentyal. In the firewall logs I see only "DENY" logs for the PC requests.
I enabled all services over WAN, but I still cannot connect in any way to Zentyal.
3) Does anybody have a better setup approach or can someone give me a hint regarding the firewall?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards

Installation and Upgrades / Email setup troubles, SPAM detection
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:42:17 pm »
Hello there,

I've been running Ebox for a few months now, and all in all I like it very much. I'm having some issues though:
1) for some strange reason, Ebox installed everything thinking my hostname was my.company.com.company.com instead of my.company.com. This is a recurring issue, I had even emails rejected from my EBox saying that the hostname did not exist.
I changed the values in the stubs directory in main.cf, but still, in some cases (eg. cron sends me a periodic email every night) the wrong hostname appears in the headers. Also, my main.cf config has lines for LDAP in there with
Code: [Select]
myhostname = my.company.com
smtp_helo_name = my.company.com
valiases_search_base = ou=mailalias,ou=postfix,dc=my,dc=company,dc=com,dc=company,dc=com
ldapvirtualmap_search_base = ou=Users,dc=my,dc=company,dc=com,dc=company,dc=com
vmaildomains_search_base =  ou=postfix,dc=my,dc=company,dc=com,dc=company,dc=com

Are the last 3 lines wrong? Is
dc=my,dc=company,dc=com right instead of dc=my,dc=company,dc=com,dc=company,dc=com?

[edit]: I just discovered, there is already a thread for this: http://forum.ebox-platform.com/index.php?topic=3108.0 (cant open ticket database thou!!)

2) Mails that cron sends periodically dont arrive. I have them in the mailbox of the user, whose cronjob is executed each night, although I specified an external email adress. Also, the headers have the my.company.com.company.com hostname problem as well.

3) Some emails sent to EBox from outside by an ISPs SMTP-server with outlook dont arrive. I see nothing in the logs and Outlook has the mails in the sent folder. When I telnet from that location into the ISPs SMTP-server and do everything by hand, the mails arrive. Also telneting into Ebox and doing the SMTP protocol by hand, delivers the mail. I am in constant fear that I might miss emails, without the sender getting any nothification of failure!

4) I also have some bouncing emails saying "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" from MAILER-DAEMON@xx.yy.zz.yy.zz
Code: [Select]
<bbking@yy.zz> (expanded from <office@yy.zz>): host 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]
    said: 554 5.6.0 Reject, id=20057-03 - BAD_HEADER: Non-encoded 8-bit data
    (char AE hex): Subject: **SPAM** office VIAGRA \\256 Official Site... (in
    reply to end of DATA command)

which I am not sure, what it means? Why is it bouncing and cannot be delivered?

5) I added a few lines to main.cf to decrease the number of spam I receive. In particularry I added these lines:
Code: [Select]
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client multi.uribl.com';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client dsn.rfc-ignorant.org';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client list.dsbl.org';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client bl.spamcop.net';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client dnsbl.sorbs.net';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client cbl.abuseat.org';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client ix.dnsbl.manuti.net';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client combined.rbl.msrbl.net';
$smtpRecipientRestrictions .= ', reject_rbl_client rabl.nuclearelephant.com';

but I still receive enough spam - my old server before EBox, a SuSE 7.2 with sendmail 8.x.x did a few times better with spam handling.
Is there a way to reject mails with the subject "**SPAM**" or "[SPAM]" ?

Ebox experts, please help! :)

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I am kind of working on the eGW / Thunderbird / Blackberry sync (see http://forum.ebox-platform.com/index.php?topic=3618.msg15620#msg15620) and I got a message in the eGW forum that I need at least eGW version 1.6.003 (EBox runs 1.6.002).
Can I upgrade somehow without breaking the EBox settings? If yes, how can I do this?

I'd also like to install additional software, e.g. drivers for my usb webcam, a media streaming server, etc. - can I do this without breaking something?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi everybody,

I am working on the syncronisation of my Blackberry and T-Bird over funambol with Ebox'es eGroupware. It nearly works for me, but I still have a few issues:
On T-bird I get the error "Error: Code 2052" when syncing with the Funambol Add-on, it fails after syning 120 contacts (I have only 120 contacts in my address-book). After googling I found a page where the following was recommended as a solution:
Code: [Select]
package needed libapache2-mod-fcgid

The following time-outs and abort happen with large synchronisations:
cgi aborts (error 500 after 20 Sec)
apache aborts the Post-Request (after 5 Minutes)
PHP is out of memory (32MB is the Default-value)

To solve this, the following changes have to be included:

/etc/apache2/apache2.conf :
TimeOut 1200

/etc/apache2/mods-en abled/fcgid.conf :

<IfModule mod_fcgid.c>
AddHandler fcgid-script .fcgi .fcg .fpl
IPCConnectTimeout 1200
IPCCommTimeout 1200
</IfModule>

/etc/apache2/conf.d/egroupware :
php_value memory_limit 96M

so I opened a console, did
sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-fcgid,
did all the changes and wanted to restart the apache service when it said, that httpd was not running at all (although I was connected to the admin panel and to eGroupware over my browser?)?

So my first question is, are all the paths correct above, or is apache started from a different location? Also, does anybody have any experience with funambol sync tasks like these?

I have the same problem, when I start syncing from my Blackberry, it aborts after about 60 contacts. Syncing the "Tasks" and "Notes" are working!

Thanks a lot in advance!

Installation and Upgrades / Installing from SVN
« on: February 05, 2010, 11:05:01 am »
Hello folks,

this is me again. Sorry to start a new thread, but I guess it's independent from my previous one.

I'm trying to install on ubuntu-9.10-server-amd64

I got the SVN sources as stated in http://trac.ebox-platform.com/wiki/Document/Development/SVN

installed all the tools that the file trunk/common/libebox/INSTALL said (the CPAN Module Readonly::XS failed)

then run autogen.sh, ./configure --localestatedir=/var/ and make install -> this went fine.

Then I chanched to trunk/client/ebox and there run the same commands:
autogen.sh, ./configure --localestatedir=/var/

but it fails with
checking for gconftool-2... none
configure: error: gconftool-2 not found

what can I do here? apt-get install gconftool-2 doesn't work....

[Edit]: Are there any docs, that could point me in the right direction with the installation from sources?

Thanks in advance!

Installation and Upgrades / Installation fails
« on: February 03, 2010, 12:04:26 am »
Hello,

first of all, this is my first post here, so please bear with me - I just discovered EBOX a few days go and liked the idea behind it very much.

Today I was going to install 1.3.16 but it failed from the beginning: I burned a CD with the iso image, put it in a brand new server made from Intel parts and an Adaptec RAID controller - it just starts fine from the CD, I can change the language and the keyboard layout and then it tells me, it can't configure my CD-Rom......HUH?!?!......it just booted from the CD and loaded all the data from there?!
Same result, when I create an USB stick with the image and boot from there. RescuImage has no problems reading the CD when I start from the USB stick....

The CD-Rom is available under /dev/sr0 and I can mount it in the console and read the data from there....
Same goes for the USB stick, it's only mounted from /dev/sdb1

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers
