Didn't do anything yesterday, ended up a mammoth forbrydelsen viewing session (tak).
I will have a go today as I usually do vanilla ubuntu and apt-get install zentyal-core / zentyal-software.
Going to see if just the bare minimum of network and samba can be made to work and get some logs.

Didn't know the cd was problematic, unetbootin and a usb ?
Its what I do.
Actually ubuntu server install from usb.

add the keys
blank mysql passwords
https://ip-address of ifconfig details of wan port.
remember to allow external to zentyal zentyal-admin & ssh in firewall before enabling

Apparmor is an selinux like system security run on profiles.
Its not needed for a working system.
Just google ubuntu apparmor disable and that will allow all services to start without need for addition.

I am the same Marcus why hostname is used instead vhostname.
Also you might want to add a server alias ServerAlias www.<% vhostname %>
I always find in confusing with the default website being in /var/www and virtual-hosts in /srv/www
This is due to Zarafa where I like to lock access to a particular domain.

You need to edit the .mas file in /usr/share/zentyal/[zentyal-module-name] (Check the naming structure)
I also want to access /var/www and /srv/www.
I have tried and the settings to limit the user or change settings doesn't seem to work for me though.

Barry I am going to have a play today. All I can say is that I have had mixed results with the current version of Samba.
Even if you get it to run your not going to be able log on to a domain. Just doesn't work.
The file share should though from what I have read. I will get back to you on my personal findings.
Guess if you know, it will stop you wasting time trying. This has been a huge source of frustration for me.
The whole manner of a generally bugging and non functional release 3.0 has been hoisted onto the community as a working product is truly saddening.
On the surface most modules look like they are working but if you want to anything more than a minimal simple setup you will find you will run into problems.
This would be no bother what so ever if there was transparency and it was stated that certain elements are still in a state of flux.
The devs are doing a superb job and there efforts are being tarnished in the manner of release.

Have we got any details from the dev team. Or a trac reference.

I presume this is from the raring repo and we are on 4.0.0~rc5+dfsg1-1: amd64 i386 and that will be the change.
We where on 4.0.0~beta2+dfsg1-3: amd64 i386 from the quantal repo (which worked). Or was it RC2? It worked though.
From referencing samba.org this would seem to point at the zentyal package.
I would like to ask why we have a normal release that is still a Beta and not fit for production.
Can we not freeze a working version and at least give the community the choice to use a working product?

Robb it will never take off if somebody doesn't moderate, the idea's there are perfectly good idea's there that have been stuck there since Oct.
Moderation should stop spam, that is it. It isn't up to the moderator what is a good or bad idea that is up to the community to vote for.
The idea of certain people in charge of moderation makes me wonder if there is any point.

If you would as I did try samba4 and it did work. It was samba4 I was reinstalling due to not being able to join the domain with win7 clients.
Then the DNS bug seemed to cause many probs.
I am also going to be online tomorrow and aiming purely to get a working AD domain.
I have this vain hope to also have an additional controller but we will have to see.
Any of you going to be on the forum or on IRC?
I will be at it midday till late.
Saturday morning is guardian crossword and posh coffee morning with my girl, so it will be midday before I emerge

Its a tricky one this as basically it needs to be a valid domain name structure that isn't used anywhere else.
Using say google.com somewhere along the line isn't going to work for want of a bad example.
M$ used to get round this by providing a .local which is frowned upon, how about yourname.lan or something like that?
Zentyal is very easy to setup so throw in anyting for a test setup.
When you get to the school I presume you will use there domain name

/var/lib/zentyal/conf/zentyal-mysql.passwd did the same to me first time. I have a preference for the webmin sqladmin module over phpmyadmin if you doing much with mysql.

What I want is a simple rsync method that allows one server to rsync a complete directory structure.
I just want zentyal to automate the certificates and user for access and it to be part of the ldap synchronisation module.
