News and Announcements / Re: Zentyal 5.0 available!
« on: December 29, 2016, 01:10:57 am »
Hi all,

The Zentyal Development Team proudly presents Zentyal 5.0, a new release of the Zentyal Open Source Linux small business server with Active Directory interoperability.

Ha. Just checked over here while nethserver downloads. Been using Zentyal for ages, but too many features disappeared, software got too old, and I am not an Outlook user.

So long Zentyal. It's been fun, and its not you, its me.

I'm really wondering why I persist with Zentyal. Why can they not give us the documentation that will let us use Zentyal as an LDAP server to authenticate clients without having to jump through all these hoops. Earlier versions gave us a read only user in the admin panel and let us set up clients with ease. Now you have to dig into the guts of it just to find the dn of a user to use to log into LDAP.

If all Zentyal is going to do is provide the same functionality as a windows server (including the fucked up upgrades), I might as well just use windows. At least Microsoft give you documentation, and they support third party applications on the servers. Zentyal seem to be trying to stop anyone doing anything other than file sharing and Outlook.

I'm not an nginx xpert, but what I would try is putting the configuration in /etc/nginx/conf.d or /etc/nginx/sites-available with a link to the file from /etc/nginx/sites-enabled.

Failing that, you might need to get to grips with stub file in /usr/share/zentyal/stubs/core/nginx.conf.mas

I am not an expert in these things, so I'd read up on the developer docs about the stubs. Needless to say, I'd back up the config files - not sure what would survive an upgrade.

Well, after purging Zentyal-*, and re-installing all the Zentyal components, still no luck. So I went to owncloud -> apps and disabled the LDAP app, reloaded and re-enabled it, and all is working again.

Unfortunately, I have no users in Zentyal any more - so have to add them all back :-)

I am having no luck at all with this. On the first tab, I get the little green icon to say the server configuration is correct, then go to the second tab, and it turns red and says it is incorrect.

Arggh - about to post a me to, then saw it was me I was replying to.

So I guess i cannot enable certificates for apache.

Sigh.

7
Greetings,

I had to update my certificates, so I made a new Certification Authority Certificate, and issued a new certificate to my server, but on the Service Certificates page, I cannot edit or enable the service certificate for the Web Server service. The edit button is greyed out, and the checkbox cannot be selected. I also changed the common name of the Web Server.

I have tried replacing the ssl.cert, ssl.key and ssl.pem files in /etc/apache2/ssl/, and restarting the server but when I connect with a web browser, I still get an error and the old certificate. I don't see any directives in the apache2 config files to indicate which certificates should be used.

Any help would be appreciated. I am getting keyboard bruises on my forehead.

Reinstalling worked for me - until it stopped. I tried to reinstall the module again but am still getting the error.

Yes - I have installed and had a look at Openchange and SOGo. I am wondering if using SOGo is going to lock me into using Openchange exclusively, or if I can use it to access my other calendars and address books. At the moment it does not seem I can.

On 3.3, Roundcube could access the Zentyal server address books, email and calendars without modification. After upgrading, it could not. It also has plugins so I could sync with other calendars and address books.

Seems to me that Openchange / SOGo are a bit of a backward step. Instead of letting you use Microsoft's protocols as well as the open standard protocols, it is replacing them. If you want to do that, you might as well use Exchange and be done with it.

Hi - after upgrading to Zentyal 3.4, roundcube's address book no longer lists Zentyal users. SOGo is listing the users.

I don't see anything in the roundcube error logs.

I did some googleing, and I see there is a Zentyal/roundcube-plugins-openchange - but this is not on my system. Do I need this for Roundcube?

Also, I used to have Roundcube reading and writing to my Owncloud calendars and address books with caldav and carddav. Is SOGo able to do this?

Cheers

Don

Hi - if I understand you correctly, you want to access the management web pages from the internet on port 5000?

The server will still be exposed to the internet, but on port 5000. That's not any more secure - anyone with a port scanner will still find it.

Anyway - there is a setting in the management pages where you can set the management port.

Go to Core -> System -> General -> Administration interface TCP port

Installation and Upgrades / nginx runs on port 80
« on: May 15, 2014, 06:12:45 am »
Hi - I have been having problems with Zentyal 3.3 - I have been unable to get the web server to start as it seems nginx is using port 80.

The /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default has a  server defined that seemed to be running on the default port 80. I commented out the entire stanza, and everything seems to be running okay, but I don't have time to reboot at the moment.

So - one - if anyone else is having a similar problem, I hopes this helps.

And two - is this the best way to handle it? Where is nginx configured for the Zentyal web management application? I can't find it.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: openchange crashing

I am getting the same error as well.

Your response does not fill me with confidence. There is currently no upgrade path from 3.3 to 3.4. You are basically saying we need to migrate to a new installation.

To be blunt about it - Windows support for Server 2003 is coming to an end soon - after eleven years. Six years after it's replacement come out in 2008. Support for Zentyal 3.3 has come to an end after - what? five months? You really expect people to install and configure their servers twice a year?

Also - you are saying a version of Zentyal ceases to be supported on the day a new version comes out? When I was young and foolish I would upgrade to a new release as soon as it was ready - but no more. Let the young install the young, I say - judging by the forums, waiting a bit is a good idea.

Doesn't work for me either. Have set permissions and added a public_html folder but still get access denied.

Hi - I have used the Zentyal web interface to create a virtual web host - www.robertson.net.nz

I have also created a Zentyal Group called wwwdev for people who work on the virtual host

In the Samba setup, have shared the virtual host's directory with the wwwdev group, and given the wwwdev group 'Administer' permission on the share

From the command line, I have changed permissions on the directory to:

drwxrwx---+ 4 www-data wwwdev 4096 Apr 26 21:15 www.robertson.net.nz/

When I restart the server, the directory for the virtual host gets changed to

drwxrwx---+ 4 sync __USERS__ 4096 Apr 26 21:15 www.robertson.net.nz/

Connecting to the site with a web browser give me "You don't have permission to access / on this server"

Is there any way to set this up so the permissions are correct after rebooting?

Cheers,

Don
