This was reported to ebox as a bug and it is now fixed in the latest release.
Thanks,
James

Thanks Isaac.
I reinstalled this time removing the - characters from the LDAP dc but same problem again with egroupware. I used both ebox 1.4 and 1.4.3.

Uhm, did you select the virtual domain name in the egroupware configuration and saved changes?

Yep I did and we can send and receive email using roundcube.

We are still at a stand still with this. I have reinstalled the master and egroupware ebox machines a number of times. Any ideas on why egroupware cannot authenticate against our LDAP server, why it looses these settings when we apply them manually in the egroupware configuration?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Isaac,

See output below:
sudo slapcat -F /etc/ldap/slapd-translucent.d/ -s 'uid=jsweeney,ou=Users,dc=VM-Ebox-1'
dn: uid=jsweeney,ou=Users,dc=vm-ebox-1
objectClass: inetOrgPerson
objectClass: posixAccount
objectClass: passwordHolder
objectClass: eboxEgwAccount
objectClass: CourierMailAccount
objectClass: usereboxmail
objectClass: fetchmailUser
mail: jsweeney@test1.test.com
mailbox: test1.test.com/jsweeney/
userMaildirSize: 0
mailHomeDirectory: /var/vmail/
quota: 0
egwPermsTemplate: Minimal

We just noticed in the egroupware Setup/Config Admin Login page (http://machine/egroupware/setup) that egroupware is looking for its LDAP server in localhost. However if we update this to point at the LDAP master and also include the LDAP password we get a "Your session could not be verified." error when we attempt to log into egroupware. If I enter an incorrect username and password I get "Bad login or password" so we appear to be on the right track.

Also whenever we restart the web server egroupware looses its LDAP info (as seen in http://machine/egroupware/setup) and defaults back to localhost for the LDAP server.

Any ideas?
Thanks for your help,
James

Hi again,

Mail appears to be working 100% now. I changed the virtual mail domain so that it is fully qualified. I can now send and receive email using roundcube.

I tried removing egroupware and reinstalling it but I still cannot log in (sudo apt-get remove --purge ebox-egroupware and sudo apt-get install ebox-egroupware).

Below you can find the output of the slapcat command you asked for. Does OpenLdap allow - chars in the DC name?

sudo slapcat -F /etc/ldap/slapd-replica.d/ -s 'uid=jsweeney,ou=Users,dc=VM-Ebox-1'

Note also that in roundcube if I attempt to send an email to another user I get an error stating "Incorrect email address".

Hi Isaac,

I reconfigured the system and I am no longer getting the "EBox::EGroupwareLdapUser::_ldapSearchTemplate Referral received" error.

Thanks for the correction - yes I can login to Dovecot now from telnet.

There are no pending operations on the LDAP master. I still cannot log into egroupware however. Though I can now log into webmail (roundcube).

How can I verify that egroupware is using ldap? Note that I get the same error message ("Bad login or password") whether I use a valid username or not.

Thanks,
James

Hi Isaac,

Good to hear from you. Hope your trip is going well. Nope I cannot login using telnet either (telnet IPADDRESS 143 then executed a login myusername mypassword). I got a a NO Authentication failed. Turning on auth debug in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf had no effect.

I just added a new user on the master but on the slave when I go to enable email for that user in Users and Groups - Users - Edit user I get the following error
A really nasty bug has occurred
Exception
Unknown error at EBox::EGroupwareLdapUser::_ldapSearchTemplate Referral received
Trace ....

Cheers,
James

Hi,

I have completed a clean installation of Ebox 1.4. I have two servers setup as a master (ldap) and a slave. The slave is correctly registered with the master.

I have enabled egroupware and setup a test email account for my user. However when I attempt to login to egroupware at mySlaveIp/egroupware and give it the correct username and password I cannot login and get a bad login or password error.

I have tried disabling egroupware and mail and enabling them again, adding new users to the master and attempted to log in as that user - but I still get the same error.

Has anyone encountered this?

Thanks,
James

Installation and Upgrades / EGroupware and iPhone
« on: January 22, 2010, 05:54:57 pm »
Hi all,

I am able to receive email directly from ebox on my iPhone mail client and it works great. I am running ebox 1.3.12 on egroupware 1.6.001. Is it possible to synchronise my contacts and calendar with iPhone also? I see that iPhone only supports LDAP for importing contacts so maybe this wont work. Does the synthesis application (http://www.egroupware.org/index.php?page_name=Sync&wikipage=SyncMLSynthesis) work with egroupware 1.6.001?

Has anyone got contacts and calendar syncing with iPhone?

Also has anyone made their egroupware web email site available outside their intranet? If so what is the recommended setup from a security perspective? i.e. ISA server, port forwarding etc.

On a related note I see that ebox has a ebox-webmail module that includes roundcube. What is the reason for including a web based email client when egroupware appears to do the same thing?

Thanks and best regards,
James

Installation and Upgrades / Re: €uro Symbol and Email
« on: January 14, 2010, 12:17:37 pm »
Hi,

I found a solution to the €uro symbol problem thanks to Klaus at egroupware.
In the database you need to add the record below to the egw_config table.

insert into egw_config(config_app,config_name,config_value) values('phpgwapi',   'system_charset',   'utf-8');

This seems to provide the cleanest solution.

According to egroupware this problem does not occur on a fresh installation of egroupware only.

Can this be added to the ebox codebase?

Best regards,
James

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Email signatures in egroupware
« on: January 14, 2010, 12:13:37 pm »
Hi Isaac,

Thanks for that. I got it working now. Is there a way of always adding a signature to your emails rather than having to select the signature from the combo box in the compose email screen?

Cheers,
James

Installation and Upgrades / Email signatures in egroupware
« on: January 13, 2010, 01:30:28 pm »
Hi,

Just wondering if it is possible to define an email signature in egroupware?
In the new email screen there is a combo box that allows me to pick either none or system signature. Where can I create my own? There is no option to do this in email preferences.

I am running ebox 1.3.10 on egroupware 1.6.001.

Thanks and best regards,
James

Installation and Upgrades / Re: €uro Symbol and Email

Hi Isaac,

Any update on these issues? I have made a number of updates to the php.ini file and the egroupware preferences but I still cannot get the euro symbol to display correctly in egroupware.

From where we are now we know that dovecot/postfix stores email in utf-8 because our email clients such as exchange and evolution display these characters correctly. However egroupware still displayes a € as a ? Note that we are able to display Irish characters such as á correctly in egroupware. However when we go to forward such a mail the Irish characters get converted to a ?

I updated to ebox 1.3.10 but no joy.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Best regards,
James

Installation and Upgrades / €uro Symbol and Email
« on: December 04, 2009, 11:30:56 am »
Hi,

First off thanks for all the hard work in developing ebox. I am looking forward to 1.4 and the new features it has to offer.

I am having a few small and annoying problems though on 1.3.9.
1. The euro symbol does not display correctly in email. In its place I get a ? I know that egroupware offers different options for setting the character set but from past experience changing these options broke our installation. What is the best way of supporting the euro symbol?

2. I have two email aliases. One is the default for the virtual mail domain I setup and the other is my work email address. How can I change the default email address in egroupware so that each time I send an email I dont have to manually change the email address to my work one?

3. My final question is to do with IMAP. I have attempted to access my ebox email using Thunderbird over IMAP. I have IMAP enabled on ebox but Thunderbird times out when I attempt to connect to it. Is this an known issue or this there some other means to enable this?

Any help on the above would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
James
