Installation and Upgrades / Want to add a Backup DC
« on: November 22, 2013, 06:21:57 pm »
So I've been using Zentyal for a while now and want to ensure uptime after updates. I'm thinking about purchasing a second server to configure like this:

http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Documentation/Community/Document/MultipleZentyal

This documentation looks like it will perform the way I'm hoping; essentially a redundant system to handle all services if one server goes down. However, I keep seeing posts saying that Zentyal cannot do this.

Example:
Quote
Zentyal is not designed to handle "multiple Zentyal box" management. in case of multiple Zentyal servers, there is no "service redundancy" but different services, per server.
- no DNS replication, zone transfer but local DNS
- one single mail service per mail domain
- LDAP replication still not flexible enough (+ internal LDAP for Samba)

I'm pretty sure I'm missing something here. If I get a second server and tie the two together following the documentation listed above, will I be able to replicate AD, DNS, DHCP, etc? If one server goes down, can the other serve these services until I get the original server back up?

Thanks for your time folks

Installation and Upgrades / Backup Restore Issues
« on: October 07, 2013, 01:00:35 pm »
I'm trying to restore a configuration backup after a reinstall and I'm getting the following error:

Code: [Select]
The following modules present in the backup are not installed: apache. You need to install them before restoring.
I'm really confused. Apache isn't a Zentyal module and it's already installed...

Any ideas?

Stupidly initiated the 3.2 update tonight on a deployed server. Result was that Samba was not installed correctly. Zentyal instructed to run dpkg --configure -a which stated cannot find CN=my domain CN=blah blah in the config file.

Google searches show nothing, reboots, updates/upgrades do nothing. Further updates post-upgrade do nothing. The UI works fine, all of my users show up fine, just no Samba support. Ie. none of my user's accounts work, no domain authentication. I'm forced to reinstall from scratch. Hoping that some of my backup configurations will take afterward or I'm pretty much screwed, back to square one.

I'm not really looking for help, it's too late at this point, I have to reinstall. Just wanted to share in case someone else ran into this so there would be a place to comment. I can't complain as it's free software, just sucks.

Installation and Upgrades / Barracuda VPN Authentication?
« on: June 02, 2013, 04:26:26 am »
Hey guys, I'm trying to bind LDAP or AD from a Zentyal server with my Barracuda firewall's VPN service. I'm having trouble getting it configured. Has anyone dealt with this before?

If not, I mainly need to just find an LDAP log file on Zentyal to see what the problem is. Does anyone know where I can find that log file?

Thanks!

Installation and Upgrades / (SOLVED) Available updates disappear?
« on: April 23, 2013, 06:44:53 pm »
This is a weird one; My dashboard shows 3.0.19 is available with 18 system updates. However, when I go to updates, Zentyal says "The system components are up to date".

Zentyal has a proper internet connection and DNS is running properly, reboot didn't change anything...

Anyone else see this before?

Installation and Upgrades / Group Policy Problems
« on: March 21, 2013, 08:49:42 pm »
Hey guys. I've been using my Zentyal PDC for a while and everything is working fine other than Group Policy. When I try to issue gpupdate /force on any machine with any user, I always get this error:

Updating Policy...

User Policy update has completed successfully. Computer policy could not be updated successfully. The following errors where encountered:

The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file
mydomain.lan\SysVol?\mydomain.lan\Policies\{AC770D9E-2E0F-4645-AACB-91B02C8F6825}\gpt.ini

from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:

a) Name Resolution/Network? Connectivity to the current domain controller.

b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).

c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.

I've double checked permissions and DNS and everything seems to be properly configured. I've found a few posts about this problem but not since the last Samba release... I ran a GPRESULT report and it just shows "Access Denied". This doesn't make sense to me; I'm using a domain admin account who has full control over the sysvol share.

I reopened the trac ticket here (http://trac.zentyal.org/ticket/5979) but I was hoping someone here may have some recommendations.

Thanks!

Installation and Upgrades / Today's update killed my server
« on: March 12, 2013, 08:00:55 pm »
I've been running Zentyal Community with the latest updates as a PDC for my company for a few weeks and noticed an update this morning. I went ahead an issued an apt-get dist-upgrade and after it finished, DNS stopped working. I couldn't get any nodes on the network to access the internet while using Zentyal as the primary DNS. I then rebooted the server and it's been stuck on the initial loading screen ever since.

I tried rebooting a few times and went into recovery mode but over the past 10 years that I've been using Linux, my biggest frustration has been when it just won't boot. I simply don't know what to do...

I have reconfigured my router to take care of the issue with the network access but I really need to get this server back up and running. I do have a configuration backup so I could reinstall but I made a lot of remote changes such as Group Policy that I'm not sure will come back properly.

Please help! I'm not a Linux noob but I just don't know what to do at this point other than reinstall. Also, if anyone has any recommendations as far as applying dist-updates for Zentyal, I'm all ears.

Thanks!
