Ok My Target Platform  are Windows 7 Prof workstations I hope it answers the question.

The reason for me to use Zentyal is this:

1- Change Windows Work Group to Domain
2- Change Hamachi VPN with Zentyal VPN
3- Centralize Shares and permissions.
4- Change Comodo Firewall to Zentyal Firewall
5- DHCP uhandle by Zentyal

With above reasons I can have all the WS pretty clean running nice not extra services running on them and a computer  "The Server" doing some extra work.

Since in Zentyal there is more risk then I use a DD-WRT router too. I can not become a master on Firewall rules on Zentyal in order to feel secure...

"Perhaps because the answer is not as simple as "take this CPU and this amount of memory and it works fine"

thats why I asked... I dont know how to gauge or I dont have a guideline I dont think there is one in Zentyal Documentation.

Well we can make things complicated or not...I appreciate you reply and help but I think its too technical ..
In real life many, many, Small Office are just using an all in one Router/Switch/DHCP + Windows Workgroup + Share Drive and thats it..now if that basic setup its better than a Zentyal sever then whats the point on Zentyal.

I am using Zentyal on my own , to learn it and its perfect in my opinion for a small office and its not that complicated , yes there is a lot  and most of it I dont know yet...but if out of the box Zentyal its less secure than a  "Router" then it should not be out there.

I can put together any computer, two nics and install Zentyal but my question was more like what decent configuration of a CPU , RAM are recommended to handle the work.

I understand that money talks and if thats the goal of Zentyal then ok thats fine...

But again thanks for your answer you dont have to bother with a question and yet you did.... so sorry but it just that I read, read, read and sometimes I dont find my answers...

Chris,

Thanks....this is for a Small Office I am planing on having one server on one location with 7 WS and they have another location with 3 WS. I was thinking in using OpenVPN to to allow those 3 WS to map the shares on the ""main office".

IDS/IPS has something to do with Penetration Tests ?? or can relate to  ?

Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Thinclient question
« on: July 02, 2013, 09:13:54 pm »
To refresh the question.
Setup:

Fresh Ubuntu Server Install.
Added Ubuntu Desktop.
Added Zentyal

Setup :

DHCP (working)
Shares (working on main folder - subfolders have denied access dont know why yet.)
Users (working)
VPN (working)

The problem is on Thin Client

Everything works, boots up fine.
But I dont know what the sudo password is.
I have tried all the password that I know...

Thanks

In addition, one of the attempts to get it fix, was to remove the:
ltsp-server and Zentyal-server, and then just install Zentyal-server..
Same situation..

mm no , I never installed it.
The only way here I think is to add testdisk to not to ask for password

Yes , I was going to explain..

I needed a server and desktop all in one...so I tried the zentyal iso but it was not good for me, so I did:

Ubuntu Server...
Then added Ubuntu Desktop
and last added zentyal...

The thin client is setup in Zentyal..everything else too

Before your reply I did
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/UnlockChrootRootAcct

and now at login screen  when typing jcanepa ...password

"No response from the server, restarting"

It get back the login screen.

I will undo that, and the get back on your command
