I looked at the entire changelog and this was removed. In the quickie it didn't say anything about. Seems like quite a lot of major changes for a .1 version.

I need my windows AD users to auto-create and their authentication just go from there so there's not two accounts to control. Is this still possible?

I've been running zentyal for years as a domain controller and fileshare. I recently had to create another network on my network for another company. This company had their own budget and needs and had a program they needed a windows server for so we got a Windows SBS domain controller. We recently merged the two networks together and I had to take down my zentyal PDC. I needed just additional storage on my network and I don't know what the people over at FreeNAS are doing and why I can't get it installed and why the hardware requirements are getting crazy. That's another story, but I thought this is a great time to install the latest version of Zentyal and I can just use it as the fileshare. I noticed it does external active directory so my user's should just build from my windows server and I can set my access permissions to the shares on the zentyal and be done. I installed 4.1 and that may be the issue but I'm not able to get the option in my Users and Computers module. I ran the command to unconfigure-module users but it can't find it. The domain module was not active so I activated but it auto-configed a standalone domain controller and everything so I had to disable even though the docs said this can be problematic. I tried to run the command again but still no go and I can't configure my Users and Computers module. Is this feature not available in 4.1?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Desktop not coming up, Command Login

The only issue I had with the desktop crashing was on login and not being able to write to the /tmp directory. While sudo apt-get clean helped a little it doesn't every time. My issue now is that the 6.5GB I dedicated to the root fs was not enough due to a problem I think with logrotate as my var/log/ folder gets out of hand... primarily  user.log , message, and syslog. I've changed my logrotate to only do 4 days. Now, I've also notice var/lib/ebox/cache gets out of hand with a a duplicity file being written to it. Check to make sure you have space on / or you can't log in. Either way great package and I'm hoping to get the latest package soon.

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal Backups
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:18:19 pm »
I'm using Zentyal as a PDC to authenticate a few users and I have a few shares setup. I have WinXP and Win7 clients connecting just fine. My concern is if the system goes down does the Zentyal Backup restore the SID or do I have to re-create the domain/PDC which would break the trust relationship with my clients. Please advise.

If I restore the system from the Zentyal Core->Backup, does that restore all my settings or do I need to look into imaging the HD?

I have

dev/mapper/mynetwork-home
dev/mapper/mynetwork-root
dev/sda1      /boot

My home got assigned all the space and root only got 6GB. I created an extra backup directory in my root that I assigned the Zentyal backups to run weekly which took up my 6GB. I didn't see where I could delete the backups from the web interface so I just removed the directory I made using the command line. I noticed the web interface was just saying no backups were made. Will this cause any problems?

Once I freed up that space I can login. My login still timed out after 60 seconds and it threw me to the CLI login prompt. Could this have something to do with removing those backup files?

ok. The last time I checked the reports within Zentyal web interface it was showing like 80-90% free. I'm going to check it again. When I installed the OS I used LVM and just assigned the maximum size which is 496GB. How do I handle LVM within Zentyal? Can I just make those adjustments through the admin CLI and Zentyal pick them up? What would be the simpliest commands to check the LVM and then to just expand it to maximum as I guess something could have went screwy during install?

Well, I've been running 32 bit with no problems for awhile now, but today I had an error logging in.

Said something like, Xsession error: Could not write to /tmp: Session may give an error.

There was a button I could click for OK and it would take me to the login prompt again with the zentyal logo.

I restarted the machine and when I logged in it gave me the error but after clicking OK it brought me to the desktop. While I was doing stuff the computer idled for a few minutes and it went to the CLI like before.

Is this just a /tmp folder issue? Can I just rm everything in that folder?

I ran sudo apt-get clean when I got to the desktop before I let the system idle. It didn't help.

I'm going to setup a test machine and do more testing with x64 2.0-2. I initially installed this on a AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Six-Core, 4GB Ram, Gigabyte GA770T USB3 MB, ATI Radeon 5450 and I had issues with the keyboard and mouse stop working. So, I gave up and used another machine which had... AMD Phenom II x4 925, 4GB Ram, MSI GF615M-P33 MB (onboard video).... and is the machine it's currently running on was running good until the system started going to CLI. Also, when it was in the CLI the keyboard was very unresponsive. I had to press the keys hard or multiple times and was nearly impossible to type accurately. I tried other keyboards.

More info, when the system went to the CLI it said something about the login user and a few times had some text typed in as a username.

Moreover, I've already installed x32 version and it's running with no problems for a few days straight now. I was a little worried with this installation cause it failed at the simple package installation and I had to run the dpkg configure command, but after that it worked and is running great.

I really liked ebox/zentyal. I tested 1.4 and really liked it. I think it's a terrific project and wanted to stick with it. The developers are doing a tremendous job. I really only needed a PDC solution and to setup some file shares and I tried other distros out there and zentyal by far had the best GUI and configurators. The firewall module with services/objects is incredibly easy. Also, thanks for the replies and trying to help. If I get another x64 system going I'll try to do some more testing.

Nothing in the logs that I could find. I've searched kern.log, daemon.log, xorg.0.log, as well as some others.

I'm using Lxde.

I haven't done any remote accessing to the system.

It started doing it again. When it blanks the screen, I have to press a key on the keyboard to get unblank the screen. However, it gives me a CLI login prompt like if I hit ctrl+alt+F6 on the desktop. Is there an update to fix this? I enabled a screen saver but that didn't work. Actually, the screensaver didn't appear. Thanks for any suggestions on what I can try.

Since I've used alt-f7 and had to restart it hasn't done it again, but I'll keep that in mind with ctrl+alt+F6 if it happens again.

That should have worked, but it didn't. It removed the prompt, gave me the mouse cursor, and placed a solid square block in the top left corner. Some keys would place a hat and N like ^N. Then, it stopped responding to anything and I had to restart. I was able to ctrl+alt+delete and have it restart. It looks like if I let the machine sit it will log out to the CLI. I let it idle while logged into the dashboard and it did the same thing. I also let it sit at the main login prompt and after it sat for a while I hit enter to submit the username and it went to the CLI. Once at the CLI I can't get back to the desktop.

I've install zentyal 2+ 64bit and it was running good until now the system keeps going to a command prompt. It's just like a terminal but the whole screen is used. I've tried startx and ctl+alt+backspace. Startx says it's already running and the other does nothing. How do I get to the desktop? I can issue commands and view files and folders and I have a mouse cursor.
