Hi,
The server was running 3.4, i did a 3.5 update then onto 4.0
After the 3.5 update the sogo webmail services refused to run, i then read that there was an issue at the time, and this was fully resolved in 4.0 release(It was planned to update to 4.0 anyway).
4.0 installed fine, changed all the necessary ports and so on for access, however Mail & Openchange do not want to start, i noticed in the logs it complained about the CA after the 3.5 update, i renewed the CA so it is now also active.
I cannot find anything on the internet regarding this issue, and more than likely something small.
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated
Dave

Hello:
Probably showing the logs could throw some light over your issue (zentyal/samba logs)
Please keep in mind though that 4.0 is an old release and that current supported release is 4.1 (if a software bug happened)
-
Hi JB,
Yes the server is up to 4.1 now, still not made a difference, thanks for reaching out to me.
The Samba log is close to 7Mb, is there any chance i can mail this to you, along with the Zentyal log?

Hi Guys,
Managed to figure this on out.
It seems the administrator password had expired, although there was no indication on the front end.
Did the following on the console;
sudo samba-tool user setpassword administrator
Mail & OpenChange have started successfully and able to save changes.

Cool
Probable if pasted zentyal log we could find it faster but grat ypu had found out

Hi JB,
Hit another obstacle, when logging onto the webmail interface the user mail does not display.
Is this because of the upgrade from 3.4 to 4.1, if so how do i go about bringing the mail data back into the users webmail interface?

Hello:
You should probably have a look to https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Migrating_Virtual_mail_domains_to_4.0, as there was a small path change between 3.x and 4.x
-
Hi JB,
Thanks for the link, looks like it is more geared around virtual domain migration rather than changing paths of mail stores.
Are you suggesting i just export the mail store using;
sudo cp -r /var/vmail/domain/user /tmp/.
Then re-import back into the same domain using;
sudo cp -r /tmp/user /var/vmail/domain/user
Thereafter chown the mail store file?

I would suggest first understanding what's is around this change:
Zentyal 3.x: mail is stored under /var/vmail/<domain>/<user>/
Zentyal 4.x: mail is stored under /var/vmail/<domain>/<user>/Maildir
(if I remember correctly).
Therefore I wouls suggest checking (probably with a test user) where emails are and if moving them to Mailbox folder works ffor you. Remember that files and folders owner must be ebox

Hi JB,
Thanks for your reply.
So to reiterate, it would be correct procedure when doing an upgrade like this to first export the mailboxes, nuke the VMD, then to apply upgrades, thereafter create domain, and import mailboxes & chown to ebox as per your link.
I have to admit i have not found a guide on this, perhaps a good idea to publish something?
I have a test MB to try and then will proceed from there tonight

Hello:
Backing up mail folders and reimporting them under new structure should be easy, but yours could be one, as long as you recreate mail accounts
-
HI JB,
As per your link and suggestion this has not worked.
The user mails after export and import into a new VMD do not appear, furthermore the Webmail interface becomes unresponsive when trying to send a mail, which never get's sent.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts
-
Hello:
Where is you mail stored, then, this is the main question ;)
One you're sure of your old mail structure we could try to look for a way to adapt it to new one
-
Hi JB,
I have now in fact done a new install of the server.
I now need to get the old mail onto the new server.
I used the sudo cp -r to copy all the mailboxes, which are presently laying in the administrator folder on the new server.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Jb,
just found the reason why mailboxes weren't displaying;
Old 3.x Zentyal mail store /var/vmail/user
New 4.0 Zentyal mail store /var/vmail/user/maildir
Surprised you never mentioned this in your migration post above ....
