Mmm Clonezilla looks nice thanks for the headsup on that :)

Hi there

I have two disks and only one in the new system that isn't quite the same spec (A desktop rated hard drive used for testing some stuff)

I already have a backup using mondo but it would take a while to restore and I'd be restoring over the same disks so It doesn't really make sense to do that.

I've performed similar operations with red had and suse before and had no problems, unlike windows it doesn't seem phased by waking up in a new body :)

The only issues I've ever had are locating partitions. So a bit of fstab editing with a cd bootable linux and a re-installation of the boot loader after a bit of config poking.

So I guess my real question is how do I reinstall grub 2 if it doesn't play nice

Hi

I was looking through the documentation for the file sharing and authentication and it makes the following statement:

Quote
File sharing is integrated with users and groups. Each user has a personal directory and each group can be assigned a shared directory.

The user’s personal directory is automatically shared and can only be accessed by the user.

Although each user has a share under /home on the zentyal box this is not shared automatically. I presumed this was because I had not checked the Enable roaming profiles box. Since I didn't want to enable roaming profiles I just created shares for those users that needed them under /samba/shares.

Is the behaviour I'm seeing incorrect? Should the users home folder be shared as suggested by the documentation? Or should the last line of the documentation say something like:

Quote
The user’s personal directory is automatically shared if roaming profiles are enabled.  It can only be accessed by the user.

Hi I have zentyal 3.0 installed on a machine with 2 disk drives. One contains the OS the other contains /home and all the samba shares. Both drives are simple sata 3, no fancy raid etc.

I want to move my install to another server that's similar but a fair bit more powerful. I was going to go for the simplest option of just shoving the hard drives in the new box. I've done it before with suse and redhat and it works fine after a bit of fidling with fstab and sometimes a reinstall of the boot loader.

It was this last issue that had me foxed. I've some experience of reinstalling grub on suse. But as I understand it ubutu 12.04 and therefore zentyal use grub 2. How would I reinstall grub 2 on a non bootable system. I'm assuming the system will become non bootable because the drive configuration change may confuse grub.

Cheers

Hi there.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't but it seems to shut down nicely and there's nothing in the log to indicate that any problems were cause so I'm going to leave my simple mod to rc.local as the solution. :) Thanks for the feedback.

Solution then is if you want something started the a simple solution is to put  it in rc.local. For more complex stuff write an init script.

Ta.

I edited the /etc/rc.local file and added my command in. It worked fine on reboot, just wondering if this file will be recreated by some zentyal process at any point?

Hi

I have an online backup solution called jungledisk. The local backup software can be started by firing up a command line program called jungledisk.

I hacked my previous suse configuration to start this thing up in the boot scripts.

Given that all the configuration of zentyal is template driven and I'm not familiar with the boot configuration system (and it's a long time since I did it on suse :)  ) how would I go about calling this program on startup and then again on shutdown?

The update did nothing to remedy the issue and the comand simply returned an error stating that it did not find the host.

I received the following update to the case today. Haven't tested it yet - if it works I'll update you

ii  zentyal-users                        3.0.10                              Zentyal - Users and Groups

We improved the DHCP and DNS reverse zones generation in  https://github.com/Zentyal/zentyal/pull/184, and after testing with the latest packages the direct and reverse zones are updated.

I also had a problem updating the direct zone (DLZ disallowing the update), fixed following the instructions here  http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2012-July/085388.html, just FYI. In my case the host name was wxp1 and the domain kernevil.lan, so the command was

ldbdel -H /opt/samba4/private/sam.ldb "DC=wxp1,DC=Kernevil.lan,CN=MicrosoftDNS,DC=Kernevil,DC=lan"

Hi I solved this (sort of)

Distribution lists dont work in the new Zarafa web ui (http://<your zentyal box>/webapp. They do work however in the normal zarafa web site (http://<your zentyal box>/webaccess

71
Hi sorry my answer was a bit wrong

2- yes I can't send TO distribution lists, v tired this morning. (also how /what other clients could use the zarafa distribution list)

Regarding the SMTP. It works for the server. It doesn't not for lan clients (or at least lan clients affected by my dns probs) and I'm not to bothererd about it cos I can use my ISP's relay at the mo.

72
Hi again

1 - I can see the distribution list in the contacts section but I can't see it when browsing contacts from the mail dialogue. I can send to multiple contacts via the web client by selecting them individually but can't add the distribution list

2 - How would another mail client see the contacts and distribution lists in zarafa?

Besides I can't send from another client on the lan via the smtp server at the moment. I have added in an network object defining the lan range but I get host unknown errors (probably due to an ongoing dns issue). I'm not intersested in fixing the SMTP gateway at the moment I can use the ISP. All I want to do is use the distribution lists in zarafa, it can send mail but I can't send via the distribution lists

73
After further investigation and a bit of log trawling I have raised ticket #6217

74
Hi there

I can create distribution lists in zarafa but I cannot send emails to them from the web client. If I right click on a normal contact I see a menu with the option to send an email in it. Also I can add a normal contact by clicking on the to / bcc buttons in the mail editor or by using auto completion on there address. That all works for normal contacts. However none of these options works for the distribution list.

I have tried variations of one or two known good email addresses but with no success.

Well this is looking more like a bug: Had a look in /var/log/zentyal/error.log and see the following lines repeating;

Text::DHCPLeases::Object::parse Error: Statement not recognized: set ddns-client-fqdn = "mumsoldgit.oilmovements.lan";
 at /usr/share/perl5/Text/DHCPLeases.pm line 148
Text::DHCPLeases::Object::parse Error: Statement not recognized: set ddns-client-fqdn = "newboy.oilmovements.lan";
