Title: Configuring Proxy
Post by: aavanco on September 28, 2011, 03:57:43 pm
Hi,

I am a begginer at Zentyal and I am having difficulty configuring this:

5 machines with filter control;
2 machines with free web acess.

I am thinking to use tranparent proxy and use mac adress to the 2 free web acess machines.
Could somebody help-me?

Thanks

If you setup transparent proxy, you cannot use the filtering control. At least in version 2.0x that's what I'm using.
Filtering control is possible with non-transparent proxy.
Christian wrote an excellent howto about using wpad with non transparent proxy. You may want to read that.

Cheers.

The content filter does work with the proxy in transparent mode. What doesn't work is using domain rules to manage HTTPS connections; that's where christian's how-to proves especially helpful.

It sounds like you're on the right track. You'll probablly want to assign your two machines static IP addresses and create a network object out of them. Then you can use the proxy's object policies to "always allow" the members of that object.

Sorry, I meant access control. At least that's what I concluded from te OP. Filtering control does indeed work, also with transparent proxy.

Cheers.
