Thanks for the info.
I'll give it a try at some stage ... but really still amazed that it's not in the GUI.

I've just installed 4.1.3 and was hoping to find "real" support for trusted certificates.

Has anyone had some positive experience in this regard?
i.e. have you successfully installed a trusted cert on the latest version and got Outlook Anywhere working properly?
Did you have to kludge it?

and I could not use Outlook Anywhere over SSL.  These were all documented and not deal breakers.

To me Outlook Anywhere over SSL is a deal breaker, what was it not so for you?

Good luck to anyone trying to use this in a production environment.

Agree ..... it's some way from being ready
In the meantime we've installed ES2013

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Is Zentyal ready for production?

I'd also like to know the answer to this.

From some other threads I gather that you have to manually click end and receive and that the Exchange native compatibility is not that stable.

For me this big issues are:
1. I struggled to get Autodiscover to work. It was fine on the LAN, didn't work on the WAN.
2. SSL Certificates from a reputable authority are still a hack in the back end.

I think once it's stable it will be a great product. Hopefully soon.

For us not having Exchange features working would be a show stopper. Hopefully those will be stable by the end of the year.

FWIW I have installed it on a VM. That's why I was wondering if it's ready for production - basically considering the possibility that I set it up wrong as opposed to it simply not being ready.

How close is Zentyal from being a production system?

I read threads about stability - and one person expressed his opinion that it was ok for a handful of users.
Is anyone actually using it as their primary mail server?
If so, how many users?
Did you manage to install your own SSL certificate (from a reputable CA)?

Just to be clear, I'm a great fan of the idea. I think a true competitor to MS is great. For me native mapi is essential. So is good support for Macs. We're currently on Kerio but wondering what we pay £400 a year for. We've installed Exchange 2013 but it's a beast.

No, didn't manage to get it working. We've parked Zentyal for the time being. We may reconsider at a later date.

Installation and Upgrades / Outlook 2011 compatibility on Mac

What is the current compatibility of Zentyal with Outlook 2011 on a Mac?

Do we have to use the dreaded iMap?

and I'm not sure if you can run openchange and zarafa at the same time.

Does Zarafa offer native Exchange connectivity?

Installation and Upgrades / Can't get Outlook or Activesync to work

We've been trying out Zentyal for a few days.

Webmail seems fine.
Can't get Outlook or Activesync to work.

We installed the Zarafa and Openchange functionality. Under "module status" OpenChange and Groupware are ticked. On the users account both Zarafa and Openchange are enabled.
I looked in the mail logs, no error.

So where do I begin to look for the problem?

I'm not convinced this is worth the effort. I mean as Zentyal brings Openchange and Sogo or at least parts of Sogo, installing the same by yourself is going to be difficult if you want to avoid conflicts with Zentyal setting. Why not fully relying on Zentyal design ?

No particular reason ... just looking at all the options available out there.
Whereas Kerio is a single all-contained solution, it seems to me that going the Openchange and Sogo route is like constructing the solution with a whole bunch of building blocks which makes the install much more complicated but maybe the flexibility is worth it. Going the Zentyal route I'd generally avoid adding things that could break it so my mindset is that it's an "easy" replacement for Kerio.

I'm also considering that the vanilla Zentyal install is more suited to organisations that have no infrastructure at all. We already have an excellent DNS/DHCP/Firewall setup that Kerio hangs off quite nicely. Having said that I'm pretty sure I could turn DNS off in Zentyal ... I think. I ONLY want my email server to handle email/calendar/contacts, nothing else. Kerio is working well and there are three main reasons why we're considering replacing it:
1. Our Windows users have to use that awful connector (which must be installed on each Windows machine)
2. Our annual maintenance fees don't even cover support (first two tickets are included, then you pay)
3. If/when we expand Kerio costs are a whole lot higher than zero cost (although in some ways I prefer to pay something .. but then I want something in return)

Thanks Christian

Does Zarafa handle MAPI?
...it's not clear to me. OpenChange definitely does, but I'm not sure which of the two products is better.

I'm evaluating full setups like Zentyal and also looking at installing SOGO/OpenChange manually using various tutorials. We're currently using Kerio but that Outlook connector is like wearing a hair shirt.

"Rather try to use, with this account, services exposed by Zentyal server"

In my initial test I want to see how it looks for webmail. Am I meant to use another url or port for this?

I'm evaluating Zentyal and installed it last night.

Downloaded v 3.3 and installed onto Hyper-V
Install seems fine. No problems reported.
Logged onto the admin console without problem on the server
Logged onto the admin console without problem from external (using https://<my external IP>)
Added/Installed "mail service" modules.
dashboard seems fine ..no errors reported. Suggested updates.
Ran sudo apt-get update and upgrade on the server without any error reported. Rebooted.
Created a new user

Tried to log in with new user account using the domain name (i.e. https://<my domain>
The Zentyal login screen appears. I enter the username and password, but no matter what combination of username I use it tells me "Incorrect password".
I've tried Firefox and Safari - same error.

Any ideas .... or is Zentyal still in development/beta phase?
